Ruben Amorim is gone, but Manchester United's forever crisis rolls on | Jonathan Wilson

Manchester United's Managerial merry-go-round Show No Signs of Slowing Down

The departure of Ruben Amorim from Manchester United marks yet another chapter in the club's long and storied history of managerial upheaval. With Sir Alex Ferguson leaving the scene in 2013, the Red Devils have struggled to find stability behind the wheel. Amorim, who lasted just 18 months at the helm, became the seventh manager since then.

The sense of discontent among United players, staff, and fans is palpable. It's a far cry from the days when Ferguson would unleash his famous temper tantrums, galvanizing the team to action. Now, it feels like a perpetual state of frustration, with each passing season bringing fresh doubts about the club's ability to rise above mediocrity.

Amorim's comments following Sunday's draw at Leeds suggest that he was fed up with the lack of control and autonomy afforded to him as head coach. His assertion that his role is simply to "do my job" for 18 months seemed almost resigned, rather than passionate. While it's clear he wanted more input from departments like scouting and sport direction, it's also possible this was a tactic to deflect attention from the club's on-field struggles.

Despite some brief glimpses of promise under Amorim – including a three-game winning streak towards the end of October – progress has been hard to discern. The team's recent performances have been lackluster, with wins coming against Sunderland and Brighton in a stretch where they looked decent, but ultimately uninspiring victories at Wolves and Newcastle that defy logic.

The real question on everyone's mind is: what next for United? Will the club stick with its beloved 3-4-2-1 experiment under a new manager, or will someone come in with a radical new approach to shake things up? The answer lies in their purse strings – Amorim's own gamble of £430m/$580m worth of signings has yielded only around £165m/$200m in sales. What can they realistically hope to achieve with such limited resources?

The implication is that United will be lucky to find a manager who can carry on the status quo, rather than someone who'll shake things up. With Oliver Glasner's contract set to expire and Crystal Palace crying out for his unique brand of chaos, it seems like only time before they come calling. But until then, the Red Devils continue their downward spiral, stuck in a crisis that shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

lol the managerial merry-go-round at Old Trafford is getting old 🤣... 18 months comes and goes and you're already questioning whether you'll find someone who can pull off the same 3-4-2-1 setup... £430m/$580m worth of signings and what do we get? A handful of decent wins against lower-table teams but not exactly setting the Premier League ablaze 🔥 the real question is, when will they get it right? 🤔

come on man 🤯 this managerial merry-go-round is getting old... 7 managers since Ferguson left and still can't get it right? 💔 the players are getting frustrated, staff are too, and fans are just at their wit's end. what's going on behind the scenes that's causing all these changes? £430m of signings and only £165m of sales... that's just not working out 🤑 can't they stick to one plan for once? the 3-4-2-1 experiment is starting to look like a joke 🤣 need some radical change, ASAP ⏰

awww man i feel bad 4 ruben amorim 🤕 he deserves better than this! umm i think its time 4 man u 2 take a step back & assess what they really want 2 achieve w/ their new manager, maybe som1 who can shake things up & bring some excitement 2 the pitch again? 🔄💡

lol what's good i think man utd is actually doing pretty well they dont need to change managers its all about unity and team spirit lol the 3-4-2-1 experiment is fire amorim was just another scapegoat for the fans who are still salty about ferguson leaving 🤷‍♂️

I'm thinking Manchester United needs a total overhaul 🔄... not just a new manager. Their spending is ridiculous and not getting them the results on the pitch. £430m/$580m worth of signings for around £165m/$200m in sales? That's not a gamble, that's a recipe for disaster! 💸 They need to go back to basics, rebuild their youth academy, and get their scouting department firing on all cylinders before they can even think about making a change. It's like they're trying to chase the magic of Ferguson's era instead of forging their own path 🕰️

lol what's up with man u always switching managers like they're playing some kinda musical chairs game 🤣 i mean seriously 7 managers since 2013 is crazy that's not stability thats just chaos...anyway think oliver glasner would be a good fit or would he just bring more drama to the table? 🤔

the whole managerial merry-go-round thing is just so draining 🤯 man u needs to find stability and consistency behind the wheel already, it's like they're not even trying anymore... 430m/$580m worth of signings that didn't yield much in return? 🤑 and now they're stuck with a limit on what they can do with resources? 💸 ugh, i just don't see them getting any better until they bring in someone who shakes things up 🔄

man... another manager gone 🙄 i mean i get it, united's had some struggles on the pitch lately and it's hard to find stability with all these changes behind the wheel. but 7 managers in 5 years is just crazy 💀 and it's not like they're trying anything new, they're still running with that same old 3-4-2-1 experiment. it's time for a radical change, but i'm not sure anyone can afford to make big signings anymore 🤑 and even if they did, would it really make a difference? we'll just be stuck in this mediocrity loop forever 😴

ugh i feel so bad 4 man u, been through so much already its not fair 2 them 🤕 another manager change wont solve everything, need 2 sort out scouting & sport direction 1st n then think about tactical changes they got that £430m/$580m invested but its all going 2 waste 💸

Ugh I'm not surprised 🤕... another managerial change at Old Trafford just means more drama and less stability for the team. And yeah £165m/$200m in sales from all those overpriced signings? Not exactly setting the world on fire 💸... it's like they're throwing money at the problem without really fixing anything. The 3-4-2-1 experiment has gotta be due for a shakeup, but I don't trust anyone to come in and actually make it work 🤔... this club just can't seem to break free from its own mediocrity 🚫

omg i feel u guys 🤯 man ut is having such a rough patch right now! it's crazy how fast things can change behind the scenes but not necessarily on the pitch 😬 ruben amorim seemed like a solid choice at first but now that he's gone, it's clear they needed someone with more vision & control. £430m/$580m worth of signings and only £165m/$200m in sales is just wild 🤑 anyway, i think glasner would be an amazing fit for palace and also man ut could really use some fresh blood and a new system to shake things up 🔥 maybe they should try 4-3-3 or something? who knows at this point 🤷‍♂️

I'm not surprised by Manchester United's managerial merry-go-round 🤯. The team has been through so many changes since Sir Alex Ferguson left, it's hard to imagine stability behind the wheel ⏰. Amorim's departure is just the latest chapter in this saga. I think the club needs a complete overhaul of its strategy and approach 🔥. They can't keep relying on the same old 3-4-2-1 experiment that's not yielding results 💔. With limited resources, it's going to be tough for them to attract top talent and make meaningful progress. I'd love to see Crystal Palace come in and shake things up 🔄. Perhaps they could bring in someone like Oliver Glasner who would inject a bit of chaos into the system 😂. Until then, United will continue to struggle and fans will have to keep wondering what went wrong 🤔.

the red devils are just so frustrating to watch sometimes! its like they're always trying to find the magic formula but nothing seems to stick. 18 months with amorim and still struggling? thats just not good enough for man utd fans like me 🤷‍♂️🔴⚽

i think the biggest issue is that the club is just too focused on keeping up the brand name rather than actually improving the team. its all about the money and the glory, but what about the football? dont get me wrong, i love man utd's history and all, but sometimes i feel like the fans are being taken for a ride 🤑

anyway, lets hope whoever comes in next can bring some much-needed stability and a winning mentality to old trafford 😊. fingers crossed! ⚽
