Landing Bo Bichette could lead Yankees to trade star infielder

Yankees Pivoting on Bellinger, Could Target Bo Bichette - Trade for Jazz Chisholm Jr. Looms as Possibility

The New York Yankees' pursuit of Cody Bellinger appears to be stalled, but a potential solution has emerged: signing Bo Bichette in free agency. The Toronto Blue Jays' shortstop has been consistently linked to the Bronx Bombers this offseason, and it's possible that landing Bichette could lead to a trade involving star second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr.

With only one year left on his contract, the Yankees may view trading Chisholm as a necessary step to make room for Bichette. According to MLB.com's Thomas Harrigan, signing Bichette would raise questions about Chisholm's future with the organization and put pressure on the club to trade him before spring training.

Chisholm had a breakout season in 2023, earning his second All-Star selection and setting career highs for home runs (31) and RBIs (80). However, his floor is considered lower compared to Bichette's. While Chisholm boasts power, signing Bichette would be a more advantageous move for the Yankees.

There isn't an obvious fit for Bichette in New York's infield beyond shortstop, where Anthony Volpe will miss Opening Day after undergoing left shoulder surgery. If the Yankees land Bichette, it could lead to Chisholm becoming available via trade. This development has raised concerns about the club's long-term commitment to Chisholm.

With spring training approaching, the Yankees' decision on Chisholm's future will become increasingly pressing. Trading away a player who may be considered a "camp distraction" like Rafael Devers with the Red Sox could be beneficial for the organization.

🤔 I think the Yanks are just looking to make room for Bichette and it's not about Chisholm or his floor being lower, lol what does that even mean? Like if you're a pro athlete, shouldn't your "floor" be a thing of the past 😂. The thing is though, if they wanna keep Bichette, why not just make room for him and not trade away Chisholm, unless it's like a huge salary dump or something... 🤑

I don't know about this Bo Bichette move... I mean, what's next? Are they gonna trade for some random guy just because they think he'll be good? 🤔 I'm not saying Chisholm is bad or anything, but trading him away because of Bichette seems kinda hasty. And what about Volpe? He's got injury issues already... 😬 What makes me skeptical is that the Yanks are gonna make some big move just to "make room" for someone new. Can't they just stick with what works? 🤷‍♂️

I just got a new gaming keyboard 🤩 and I'm so hyped! I mean, I know it's not related to baseball or anything, but I've been watching some MLB highlights in my free time and I was thinking about how cool it would be to have a 30-homer season 🎟️. Do you think the Yankees will actually make a move on Bo Bichette? I mean, they're always trying to upgrade their lineup... 👀

omg u guys i cant even believe what's happening w/ the Yankees i mean i was thinking dey were gonna sign bellinger but nope now its bo bichette lol and i gotta say i kinda get why they'd wanna do that bichette is like a better fit for them in terms of skills but u also have to consider jazz chisholm jr's floor is lower lol what if he becomes the camp distraction lol just saying

I'm not sure about the Yankees making this move, they're trying to retool their lineup and add some power, but I think it's gonna backfire if they trade away Chisholm now 🤔. He had a great breakout season last year and his floor is still pretty high for a second baseman. And let's be real, Volpe's injury is just the icing on the cake 😬. If Bichette signs with them, it's gonna create a logjam at shortstop and I think the Yankees are just gonna end up having to make some tough decisions down the line 👀. Maybe they should just focus on finding another way to get Bichette without getting rid of Chisholm 🤷‍♂️.

I think this is gonna be crazy if they land Bichette! I mean, Chisholm's got skills but he's not as consistent as Bo, you feel? It's all about the fit for the team and they gotta make a decision on their infield, especially with Volpe out. It'd be weird to trade away Chisholm now that he had such a great 2023 season, but I guess it's all business in the end 🤔💰

🤔 so they're saying the yanks are stuck on bellinger and might just sign bo bichette instead? that's an interesting move, but what's the real reason why they need to get rid of chisholm? is it really because he has a lower floor than bichette or is there something else going on here? 🤷‍♂️
