Frigidaire Minifridge Recall Expanded to Nearly 1 Million Units Over Fire Hazard Risk
A massive recall of Frigidaire minifridges has been expanded, with nearly 1 million units being recalled due to a potential fire hazard risk. The Canadian company Curtis International is responsible for the manufacture and distribution of these electronic appliances.
According to reports by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), internal electrical components in the appliance can short-circuit, causing the surrounding plastic to ignite and posing serious burn hazards. The CPSC has issued a recall notice involving Curtis International's 6-can minifridge model EFMIS121, which was sold exclusively at Target stores and on its website between January 2020 and October 2023.
The affected minifridges are easily identifiable as they are red in color with the word "Frigidaire" printed on the front. Curtis International has received at least six reports of this specific model catching fire, according to the recall notice.
Property damages for incidents involving earlier models of Frigidaire minifridges have totaled over $700,000, and CPSC advises consumers who purchased the model EFMIS121 minifridge to stop using it immediately. Consumers should unplug the unit, cut the power cord, and write "Recall" on the front of the fridge in permanent marker before disposing of it according to local regulations.
Customers can visit www.recallrtr.com/minifridge for a refund, with the recall number being 26-199. The expanded recall brings the total number of affected minifridges to nearly 1 million units.
