Recall of Frigidaire minifridges sold at major retailers grows to nearly 1 million

Frigidaire Minifridge Recall Expanded to Nearly 1 Million Units Over Fire Hazard Risk

A massive recall of Frigidaire minifridges has been expanded, with nearly 1 million units being recalled due to a potential fire hazard risk. The Canadian company Curtis International is responsible for the manufacture and distribution of these electronic appliances.

According to reports by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), internal electrical components in the appliance can short-circuit, causing the surrounding plastic to ignite and posing serious burn hazards. The CPSC has issued a recall notice involving Curtis International's 6-can minifridge model EFMIS121, which was sold exclusively at Target stores and on its website between January 2020 and October 2023.

The affected minifridges are easily identifiable as they are red in color with the word "Frigidaire" printed on the front. Curtis International has received at least six reports of this specific model catching fire, according to the recall notice.

Property damages for incidents involving earlier models of Frigidaire minifridges have totaled over $700,000, and CPSC advises consumers who purchased the model EFMIS121 minifridge to stop using it immediately. Consumers should unplug the unit, cut the power cord, and write "Recall" on the front of the fridge in permanent marker before disposing of it according to local regulations.

Customers can visit www.recallrtr.com/minifridge for a refund, with the recall number being 26-199. The expanded recall brings the total number of affected minifridges to nearly 1 million units.

OMG I'm so mad that they're expanding this recall 🀯 like what if people got hurt from these fires?! I had one of those minifridges too and I thought it was super safe, but now I'm freaking out πŸ’€ cuz I have no idea when the next fire gonna happen. And it's not just me, thousands of ppl are affected πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ. Can't believe Frigidaire messed up like this... I mean, I know they're not the only ones who make appliances, but still πŸ’Έ. Anyone else got one of these minifridges? Should we be checking our homes for them too? 😬

omg u guys cant believe this?? so like literally every other year theres another major recall on these frigidaire mini fridges and now theyre recalling like almost a million of them?? i mean im all for safety and stuff but seriously how do they even make these things and not notice the fire hazard risk?! its just crazy to think about people having to deal with property damage and burns because of something so simple. and yeah idk what the company is gonna do with all those mini fridges that need to be replaced... hopefully theyre offering some good refunds tho πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ’Έ

omg, 1 mil units recalled 🀯 like, what's going on here?! you gotta be careful when shopping for appliances, especially those that plug into the wall. i mean, fire hazard risk? not cool 😬 anyway, it's good that the company is being proactive and recalling the minifridges ASAP. hope no one got hurt from these faulty units πŸ™ and i'm definitely gonna make sure to check my frigidaire minifridge again... just in case πŸ‘€

I'm kinda surprised they're recalling so many fridges, I mean, it's not like we didn't know there was some issue with those things... πŸ€” But, on the other hand, a million units is a lot of people potentially in danger, which is pretty crazy! πŸ‘€ I guess Curtis International should've been more careful when they were making them. πŸ™„ And, honestly, $700k in damages isn't too shabby... but, wait, that's not the point, right? The point is safety, and we shouldn't have to worry about our appliances catching on fire. 😬 But, at the same time, I mean, it's just a minifridge... πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Anyway, I'm glad they're taking action, but now I'm also kinda worried that my own fridge might be one of those faulty ones... 🀯

πŸš¨πŸ‘€ just saw this news about Frigidaire minifridge recall... it's crazy that nearly 1 million units are at risk due to a fire hazard 🀯 I mean, can you even imagine walking into your kitchen and finding out the fridge is on fire? 😱 That's what could happen if these internal electrical components short-circuit. Anyway, it's good that CPSC is being proactive about this recall - safety first, right? πŸ’― And Curtis International needs to step up their game when it comes to quality control πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I'm gonna make sure to spread the word and remind all my friends to check if they have one of these fridges 😊

omg, i remember when this model was first introduced 🀯 i had one and was like 'cool little fridge' 😎 but now thinking twice... $700k in damages is crazy πŸ’Έ 1 million units is a lot of potential fires 😨 gotta love how consumer protection laws kick in for us regular people πŸ‘ i'm gonna go check my own frigidaire just to be safe πŸ€”

I'm seeing this all over my feeds... nearly a million fridges are on fire 🚨πŸ’₯ and people are getting seriously hurt. I bought one of those Frigidaire minifridges back in 2020 from Target, no big deal at the time. But now I'm worried about that red fridge sitting in my kitchen 🀯. Anyone else got one? And honestly, who wouldn't have checked for recalls by now? It's just frustrating when you think these things are supposed to be regulated... anyway, glad Curtis International is taking responsibility and offering refunds πŸ’Έ.

I'm not buying into this whole "fire hazard" thing πŸ™„, can't people just be more careful when using their appliances? I mean, it's not like these fridges are some kind of ticking time bomb... 1 million units recalled because of a potential fire risk? That's just a bunch of paranoia πŸ˜’. And what's with the color coding - a red fridge is supposed to raise some suspicions? 🚨 Shouldn't manufacturers have thought this one through before putting it on the market? Anyway, I guess it's always better to err on the side of caution and recall the units... but let's not get carried away here πŸ’‘.

ugh, this is getting outta hand... who makes a minifridge that's gonna catch fire? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ like what kinda design flaw could lead to electrical components short-circuiting? and now we got over a million people affected - poor folks gotta shell out $$$ for new one. also, safety first right? why did it take this long for the company to come forward? πŸ™„

Ugh, another one πŸ™„... I mean, what's up with these minifridge recalls? First, it's the Samsung Note battery issue, then it's the Whirlpool washer explosions... Now, this Frigidaire minifridge recall is getting crazy 😱. I've got friends who bought those minifridges at Target and they're still using them... what if they already had a fire? 🀯

I don't get why manufacturers can't design these things more safely from the start. It's always some cheap plastic or electrical issue that causes the problem... And now, over 1 million units are affected? That's just ridiculous πŸ’Έ. I'm all for holding companies accountable, but come on, this is getting out of hand 🀯.

Ugh man, dont even get me started on this 😑 Curtis International needs to be held accountable for this massive fire hazard risk! Nearly a MILLION units are at risk here? How do you even let that happen? 🀯 The fact that there have been at least 6 reported incidents of this specific model catching fire is just insane. I'm surprised more people aren't reporting these things, it's like they're scared to speak out against the company.

And what's with the 'write "Recall" on the front of the fridge in permanent marker' advice? Are they serious? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Like we weren't already aware that this thing was a fire hazard. This is just a Band-Aid solution, there needs to be real accountability here.

I'm all for refunding customers and getting these things off the market ASAP, but let's not forget about Curtis International's responsibility in this whole mess πŸ™„

ugh what a disaster πŸ€―πŸ’£ just when you think those mini fridges are harmless they can catch fire and destroy your entire kitchen lol who needs that kind of stress? πŸ’Έ i mean 700k dollars worth of damages is no joke either. and now nearly a million units are being recalled which is just crazy... like what's next? 😬

πŸ€” I mean, think about it... safety first, right? 🚨 We all want to feel secure and protected in our homes, but we gotta be prepared for the unexpected too. Like this recall, it's a reminder that even seemingly reliable things can go wrong. So what can we take away from this? Well, I think it's super important to stay vigilant and report any issues or concerns to the authorities ASAP! It shows that we care about our own safety and the safety of others. And also, we should never be afraid to ask for help or support when needed. πŸ’‘
