Philadelphia Braces for Subzero Temps but Thrives in the Cold

As a polar vortex grips the city, Philadelphians are bundling up and hitting the streets to enjoy a packed weekend of events. From the Mummers string band spectacular to icy sculptures and car shows, there's no shortage of ways to stay warm and entertained.

On Saturday, January 31st, music lovers can head to Lincoln Financial Field for the return of the Mummers string band competition, which had been canceled due to New Year's Day weather. With 14 bands performing their unique "mini musicals," this event promises a lively display of costumes, props, and choreography. Tickets range from $12.15 to $24.30.

For those looking for something different, the Founders Philly Freeze-Out takes over Main Street in Manayunk on January 31st, from 11am-4pm. The event features over 20 ice sculptures, live carving demos, a winter market, and even a chowder crawl with Founders Brewing beer specials.

Car enthusiasts won't want to miss the Philadelphia Auto Show at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, which kicks off on January 31st and runs through February 8th. With test drive opportunities, obstacle courses, and custom builds on display, there's something for everyone.

Culture buffs can celebrate the Lunar New Year with CultureFest! at the Penn Museum, starting Saturday, January 31st from 10am-4pm. Enjoy dance performances, storytelling, Tai Chi demonstrations, art activities, and a Lion Dance finale.

Finally, those looking to kick off Dry Vibes – an event focused on wellness without drinking – can head to Billy Penn Studios on January 31st, from noon-5pm. With speakers, zero-proof drinks, a wellness marketplace, and live entertainment, this is the perfect alternative for those who want to have fun without imbibing.

Whatever your interest, there's something happening in Philadelphia this weekend that's sure to put a smile on your face – even if it's just watching someone else enjoy the cold.

Omg I'm so down for the Freeze-Out event in Manayunk 🤩! Ice sculptures and live carving demos? That sounds like so much fun 🎨! And 20+ ice sculptures is a lot, I wonder who's gonna take home that 1st prize 🏆. My fave part would be trying all those yummy chowders 🍲 at the Founders Brewing beer specials - can't wait to get my hands on some of that! 😋

🤔 I'm kinda glad its gonna be super chilly in Philly for the weekend... think its gonna bring out all the good vibes from the locals! Mummers string band competition, car shows, and icy sculptures sounds like a blast to me! 🎸 I love how there's an alternative event too - Dry Vibes is such a great idea for those who wanna have fun without drinking. And I'm curious about the CultureFest! at Penn Museum, been wanting to check it out for ages. Plus, can't resist the chowder crawl 🍲😋

Ugh, subzero temps? Are people really gonna brave that for some ice sculptures and a car show 🤣? I mean, can't we just stay indoors with a good ol' cuppa hot chocolate instead? 😒 The idea of dressing up in those crazy Mummers costumes is just a bunch of hooey, if you ask me 👗. And don't even get me started on the whole "dry vibes" thing – who needs to pay money for some wannabe wellness nonsense when you can just take a nap and call it a day? 😴

omg i'm so excited for this weekend!!! 🤩 philadelphia is always so much fun but with all these awesome events, it's going to be epic! 😍 i love that there's something for everyone - music, art, cars, and even a chill wellness vibe. 🎨🚗💆‍♀️ also can we talk about how cute the mummers string band competition sounds? 🎶👀 the icy sculptures at the founders philly freeze-out are giving me major winter wonderland vibes ❄️❤️ and who needs drinking when you have amazing speakers and zero-proof drinks 😂💫

I'm like totally stoked that Philadelphians are embracing the subzero temps, lol! I mean, who needs mild weather when you can have ice sculptures and car shows? But seriously, it's awesome that they're making the most of it with all these events 🎉.

I think it's pretty cool that they're having CultureFest! to celebrate the Lunar New Year. I've always been fascinated by different cultures and their traditions, and this sounds like a great way to learn about them without even leaving the city 🤓.

And omg, I'm so down for Dry Vibes – who says you need drinks to have fun? It's all about finding alternative ways to enjoy life, right? 😊

"Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it." - Charles R. Swindoll 😊 You know, I think Philly is doing that really well right now, despite the polar vortex! They're making the most of this cold weather by having tons of fun events lined up for the weekend 🎉

Omg I'm so down for this winter fest 🎉! Philly is always the best place to be during the cold weather. The Mummers string band competition sounds like so much fun, all that energy and costumes will keep me warm 😂. And can we talk about the ice sculptures? That's just pure magic ✨. The Founders Philly Freeze-Out looks super cool too (no pun intended). It's great to see everyone embracing the cold weather with so many awesome events lined up. And for those who want to relax and focus on wellness, Dry Vibes is like, exactly what we need 🙏. Let's make this a fun and chill winter weekend in Philly! ☕

Ugh, I'm so over all these events 🙄. Who needs to brave subzero temps for ice sculptures and string band performances? Can't they just stay indoors and binge-watch Netflix like a normal person? And don't even get me started on the car show – it's just a bunch of cars, folks! 🚗 I mean, what's so exciting about that?

I'm actually looking forward to dry vibes – an event focused on wellness without drinking 😴. Who needs booze when you can have good conversation and zero hangover worries? And let's be real, the Penn Museum's Lunar New Year celebration sounds like a total snooze fest 🤯. Where's the excitement in watching people perform Tai Chi and eat dumplings?

Give me a cold weekend without all these cheesy events, please ❄️.

OMG, I'm so down for some subzero temps! 🤣 It's like, finally a reason to break out the heavy coats and gloves 😂. And I love how Philly is still thriving despite the chilly weather - it's all about embracing the winter vibes, you know? 💫 The Mummers string band competition sounds AMAZING btw, who wouldn't want to see those crazy costumes in action 🤣! And can we talk about the ice sculptures tho? I'm literally dyin' to check out that Founders Philly Freeze-Out event 🎨👍. And for all you car enthusiasts out there, the Philadelphia Auto Show is like, a total must-visit! 💥 Who else is excited for this weekend's events? 🤗

I'm loving how Philadelphians are embracing the subzero temps with events galore 😊. It's refreshing to see the city thrive despite the chill, showcasing its vibrant culture and diverse interests. From the Mummers string band spectacle to the Founders Philly Freeze-Out, there's something for everyone to enjoy 🎸🔥. I'm particularly intrigued by CultureFest! at the Penn Museum, which celebrates the Lunar New Year with a range of performances and activities 🌕. It's wonderful that the city is fostering a sense of community and inclusivity during this festive period ❤️. The auto show and wellness event, Dry Vibes, are also great examples of how Philadelphians can have fun and be active without compromising their well-being 🚗💪. Overall, it seems like Philly is embracing the cold with enthusiasm, making it a great place to visit or live during this time ❄️!

brrr ❄️ Philly is always about having a good time, even when it's freezing outside! I love how they're making the most of this polar vortex - from Mummers string band shows to ice sculptures and car shows 🚗💨. The culture fest at Penn Museum sounds like an amazing way to celebrate the Lunar New Year too 🕉️🎉. And, you know, sometimes it's nice to have a dry alternative to all the drinking events 🍻😊. Philly's got something for everyone, even on a cold winter day 💕

can't believe they're having all these awesome events despite the freezing temps 🤣 my cousin is actually super stoked for the Mummers string band competition, she's been practicing her costume for weeks 💃 and i'm tempted to check out that car show too, love getting behind the wheel of a sick ride 🚗 maybe philly knows how to make the most of this crazy weather? ❄️

I'm so down for all these events... 🤩 but at the same time, like, what is up with people wanting to brave subzero temps? 🥶 I mean, isn't that kinda harsh on everyone's health? 💉 shouldn't we just be indoors with a nice cuppa instead? ☕️ But, like, if you're into that sorta thing, go for it! 😎 And, omg, the Mummers string band competition is gonna be lit 🔥 – I'm already sold on that one... 🤑

I'm callin' BS on people sayin' Philly can handle a lil subzero temps lol 🤣 I mean, have you seen the snow piles around here? It's like, yeah sure, the Mummers string band is gonna perform and all that jazz, but what about the people who can't even get outta their own houses? Like, my grandma lives on the 3rd floor and ain't makin' it to any events, let alone walkin' around in ice. And don't even get me started on the Founders Philly Freeze-Out – I mean, it's just a bunch of ice sculptures, fam 🤷‍♂️

I'm tellin' ya, this city's got a secret life goin' on while everyone's thinkin' about stayin' warm and cozy 🤣! I mean, have you ever noticed how all these events pop up around the same time? It's like they're tryin' to distract us from somethin', but what, exactly? Maybe it's just a coincidence that all these awesome things are happenin' on the exact same day... but I'm callin' foul 🤥! What if this is some kinda government-orchestrated cover-up? Like, they're tryin' to keep us occupied while somethin' bigger goes down in the shadows? Just sayin', keep an eye out for any suspicious activity 😏.

Ugh, can't believe they still don't have mobile payments available for events at Lincoln Financial Field 🤦‍♂️. So many people will be bundling up and trying to get in to see those Mummers string bands, but good luck getting a ticket through their ancient payment system... just saying 😒.

Also, can we talk about the parking situation? Main Street is gonna be congested for that ice sculpture festival in Manayunk 🚗😩. Just one more thing to deal with when you're already freezing your buns off outside. And don't even get me started on the lack of indoor spaces for people who just want a warm place to hang out 🍵👎.

At least the Philly Auto Show is happening at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, but I still wish they'd bring back those mobile ticketing options 🚫😒.

omg u guys r gonna love philly this wkend! 🤩 i know its freezing outside but theres so much 2 do! mummers string band spectacular sounds like so much fun 🎸 & ice sculptures? yes pls ❄️ im def heading to the auto show too, car enthusiast alert 🚗 & culturefest at the penn museum looks amazing with dance performances & tai chi demos 🌲 dry vibes is also a great alternative 2 partying without drinking 🍹 cant wait 2 hit the streets & enjoy all the festivities! 💃
