EEOC Quietly Hired Lawyer Who Crusaded for Cases of Discrimination Against Men — Including His Own

A Man Who Was Accused of Rape Is Now Working on Cases Involving Sex Discrimination at Work.

Benjamin North, a man who was accused of rape in college and later cleared of all charges, has been hired as an assistant general counsel at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC is a federal agency that enforces laws against workplace discrimination, including sex discrimination. North's appointment has raised concerns among some experts, who say that his background and views on Title IX may not be in line with the agency's priorities.

Title IX is a law that prohibits sex discrimination at federally funded institutions. In 2019, North settled a lawsuit he had filed against Catholic University, where he was accused of rape by a fellow student. Under the terms of the settlement, North agreed to pay an undisclosed amount to the university and dropped his claims. However, some experts have questioned whether North's views on Title IX are aligned with those of the EEOC.

North has written op-eds arguing that men's rights are often violated in university proceedings after they're accused of sexual assault. He has also stated that a Biden administration nominee had "led the charge against students' civil rights and due process." These views have raised concerns among some experts, who say that they may not be in line with the EEOC's priorities.

EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas appointed Shannon Royce as her chief of staff, a longtime Christian conservative activist who sued the EEOC over its defense of the rights of trans people at work. The agency has also hired Connor Clegg, a former Fox News producer who was impeached as student body president at Texas State University.

The EEOC has recently dropped some cases and changed its priorities under Lucas's leadership. She has instructed agency officials to focus on cases that line up with her own personal priorities, which include "defending the biological and binary reality of sex and related rights," "rooting out unlawful DEI-motivated race and sex discrimination," and "religious bias and harassment, including antisemitism."

The EEOC is tasked with enforcing protections against sexual violence in the workplace. The agency's hiring of North has raised concerns about whether it will take cases involving sex discrimination at work seriously. Some experts have questioned whether North's views on Title IX are aligned with those of the EEOC.

The Intercept, a news organization that has covered the EEOC and its activities, is seeking funding to expand its reporting capacity. The organization's editor-in-chief, Ben Messig, wrote an op-ed last week saying that it has been a devastating year for journalism and that the organization needs to grow in order to continue its work.

The hiring of North as an assistant general counsel at the EEOC highlights the challenges facing the agency in enforcing laws against workplace discrimination. The agency's priorities have changed under Lucas's leadership, and some experts have questioned whether North's views on Title IX are aligned with those of the EEOC.

🤔 this is wild, like, benjamin north was accused of rape but he got off scot free 🙅‍♂️ now he's working at the eeoC which is supposed to be all about protecting people from workplace discrimination 🚫 and his views on title IX are super concerning 🤕 he's basically saying that men get screwed over in university proceedings after they're accused of rape 😬 it doesn't add up, you know? like, shouldn't he be advocating for the rights of survivors or something? 🤷‍♀️

🤔 I'm low-key confused about Benjamin North getting hired by the EEOC after being accused of rape... like isn't that kinda a red flag? 🚨 He was cleared of all charges but still gets this job? It's not like he's an expert on sex discrimination or anything, right? 😒 And his views on Title IX are super questionable. Like, shouldn't he be advocating for victims of sexual assault instead of making claims that his own life got "misrepresented"? 🙄 It just seems like a weird move to me...

can you believe this?? they're hiring a dude who was accused of rape to work on cases involving sex discrimination at work... like what even is that? 🤯 it just doesn't add up, you know? and to make matters worse, he's got some pretty questionable views on Title IX... it's just not right. i mean, the EEOC is supposed to be about protecting people from workplace discrimination, but now they're hiring someone who's basically a victim's rights extremist? 🙅‍♂️ this is just a huge red flag for me. we need better than this 👎

I'm really worried about this guy being hired at the EEOC 🤔. I mean, I get that he's been cleared of all charges for rape, but that doesn't necessarily mean he won't hold biased views on sex discrimination cases. His op-eds have been pretty troubling - it sounds like he thinks men are getting unfairly targeted and penalized. I don't think that's the message we need to be sending in the workplace 😕.

And let's not forget, he's been involved in some pretty questionable lawsuits over the years 🤑. It's weird to me that he's being hired by an agency that's supposed to protect people from harassment and discrimination at work. What if his views on Title IX are going to influence the way they handle cases? It just doesn't sit right with me 🤷‍♀️.

I'm also a bit concerned about the hiring of Shannon Royce as chief of staff - she seems like someone who would be more interested in pushing anti-LGBTQ+ agendas than supporting actual victims of workplace discrimination 😢. And Connor Clegg, the former Fox News producer, just sounds like he's going to bring some pretty toxic ideology into the agency 🚫.

I know we need people with diverse perspectives on the EEOC, but I think they need to make sure those perspectives aren't coming from someone who's been accused of rape and holds questionable views on sex discrimination cases. We deserve better 💪.

idk about this one 🤔... i mean benjamin north was accused of rape like 10 yrs ago and now he's working at the eeoC which is supposed to protect people from sex discrimination? it doesn't add up 🚫... some ppl are saying his views on title ix might not be aligned with the agency's priorities, but what if he's just trying to make a change from the inside? 🤷‍♂️ also, isn't this kinda like giving someone with a troubled past a second chance? 🤔

🤔 I'm not sure why everyone is making such a big deal about Benjamin North being hired by the EEOC. Like, he was accused of rape back in college but was cleared of all charges and now he's working to help people who are discriminated against at work? That's actually kinda cool. He has some opinions on Title IX that might not be for everyone, but who doesn't have strong feelings about that stuff? 🤷‍♂️ I think it's great that the EEOC is looking for people with different perspectives to help them make better decisions.

And let's be real, Shannon Royce as chief of staff? That's a huge get for the agency. She's got some serious credentials and experience, even if she has been involved in some controversy herself. And Connor Clegg, former Fox News producer? Who wouldn't want someone with his skills on board?

The EEOC is a tough job to do, and they need all the help they can get. North might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think he's got the potential to make some real positive change in this country. Let's give him a chance, you know? 🙏

I'm a bit worried about this guy being hired by the EEOC 😕. He was accused of rape in college and then had his charges dropped. I mean, it's one thing to settle a lawsuit without admitting guilt, but still, it raises some red flags. And now he's working on cases involving sex discrimination at work? It seems kinda suspicious 🤔. The EEOC is supposed to be about protecting people from harassment and abuse, not covering up for the accused 🚫. I hope they're doing their due diligence and taking these cases seriously 💪

omg I'm so confused about this new hire 🤯 Benjamin North sounds like a super problematic guy to me, especially considering his past accusations of rape & all that... 🙅‍♂️ But at the same time, like, isn't it great that he's now helping out with cases involving sex discrimination at work? 🤷‍♀️ I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't think we should just judge him based on his past or his views on Title IX... but also, how can we trust him to do the right thing when it comes to protecting women & marginalized groups in the workplace? 💁‍♀️👀

I'm low-key freaking out about this 😱. Like, how can we trust someone who was accused of rape to be in charge of enforcing laws against sex discrimination at work? 🤯 I mean, I get that everyone deserves a second chance, but North's history is super sketchy and it's concerning that he's being used as a pawn to push his own agenda. His views on Title IX are all about victim-blaming and men's rights groups, which is just not what the EEOC is supposed to be about 🤷‍♀️. It's like they're trying to dismantle progress instead of protecting people from harassment and discrimination at work 😡.

🤔 can u believe this guy benjamin north is now working at eeco? like he was accused of rape in college but got cleared anyway... 🚫 i mean who hires someone with that kind of background to work on sex discrimination cases? it just seems fishy to me.

andrea lucas, the eeco chair, has some pretty weird priorities too - like defending biological and binary reality of sex... what even is that? it sounds like she's trying to roll back progress on gender rights or something. 🤷‍♀️

i don't get why they're being so secretive about benjamin north's views on title ix either. are we really supposed to believe he's changed his tune now that he's working at eeco? 🙄

anyway, i'm definitely gonna be keeping an eye on this situation and seeing how it all plays out 👀
