ICE knocks on a door in Brooklyn. A 'traumatic nightmare' follows.

"Immigration Agents Barge In: A Brooklyn Family's Traumatic Nightmare"

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the immigrant community, federal immigration officers stormed into the Brooklyn home of Hayk Safaryan last summer without a judicial warrant or consent. The traumatic experience left 44-year-old Armenian immigrant Hayk and his wife Léah in a state of distress, as they claim their constitutional rights were flagrantly disregarded.

According to written court testimony from Léah, the drama unfolded when immigration agents knocked on the couple's door early one morning, asking for identification. Unbeknownst to them, an "armed SWAT team" consisting of six heavily armed officers burst into their apartment, detaining Hayk and seizing his personal documents.

Hayk Safaryan, who has lived in the US for over two decades, was simply sitting at his computer and enjoying breakfast when the unexpected visitors arrived. His wife, Léah, describes the scene as "a very aggressive manner" where a woman with a bulletproof vest brandished a huge weapon, yelling at her to return to their bedroom and close the door.

The officers allegedly refused to respond to Léah's repeated questions about their presence in the apartment or whether they had a warrant. They confiscated Hayk's identification documents, passport, and social security card, as well as rummaged through their personal belongings.

Hayk was eventually handcuffed, escorted outside, and thrown into a black van parked outside their apartment building. In the aftermath of the arrest, Léah reported that armed officers returned to their apartment building just three days later, this time without knocking or announcing themselves, sparking fear for her safety and well-being.

The couple's ordeal is now being scrutinized by advocacy groups, including the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU), which has long advocated for due process rights. "ICE's abuses threaten all of our constitutional rights," said Molly Biklen, NYCLU legal director. "As Trump launches such a serious, highly dangerous attack on due process, it's critical New Yorkers remember their rights under the Fourth Amendment: you do not have to open your door unless an immigration officer shows you a judicial warrant."

Hayk Safaryan is currently facing charges of grand larceny, accused of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars for a home renovation project but failing to complete it. He has been in ICE custody since June, with his lawyer arguing that the agency's actions have denied him due process.

The controversy surrounding immigration agents' enforcement actions has reached a boiling point, with Senate Democrats demanding further restrictions on federal immigration agents and New York Governor Kathy Hochul proposing legislation to limit their access to sensitive locations without judicial warrants.

can you believe this is still happening in 2025? 😱 it's like they're trying to erase people's rights left and right. i mean, what's the point of having a constitution if they just gonna ignore it? and what's up with all these arrests and detention centers? it's just so... unfair. ICE needs to get their act together and learn how to do this thing called due process properly. 🤦‍♂️

🤯 this is so messed up 🙅‍♂️ how can they just barge into someones home like that? 😱 what about the rights of these people? they're just trying to live their lives and provide for their families, but nope, the gov's got them in a headlock. 💸 it's all about money and power, folks. the fact that this guy's being held on a minor charge like grand larceny is ridiculous 🤷‍♂️ when you consider how harshly he was treated by the immigration agents. ICE needs to get its act together and start following some basic rules 📚 maybe then we can talk about due process 😒

🤯 I'm still in shock thinking about what happened to Hayk Safaryan and his wife Léah. Like, who just barge into your home unannounced? 🚪 No warrant, no warning... it's crazy! And the part where they're detaining him without even checking if he's a threat is wild 🤔. The fact that they had to come in like an "armed SWAT team" and rummage through their stuff just shows how out of control things have gotten at ICE. 🚫 I mean, what's next? Showing up at people's doors uninvited because they have a different accent or something? 😱 This is exactly why we need better oversight and accountability from our lawmakers... 👊

🤕 This is so crazy! Can you imagine someone bursting into your home with guns drawn? 😱 It's like something out of a movie, but it's real life for this family. The fact that they were not given a warrant or any explanation for why the agents were there is just ridiculous. 🙄 And to make matters worse, Hayk was even handcuffed and thrown into a van without being told what he was being arrested for! 🚔

I think it's super important for us to talk about this because it's not just about one family, but about the rights of all immigrants in this country. The fact that ICE is taking these kinds of actions is really scary. 😨 We need to make sure that our leaders are protecting everyone's civil liberties, not just those who are already vulnerable.

I'm definitely on the side of supporting Hayk and Léah during this difficult time. They don't deserve to be treated like this, especially after living in the US for so long! 🤝 And I think it's awesome that advocacy groups like the NYCLU are speaking out against ICE's abuses. 💪

😞 this whole thing is just so wrong... like, who does that? 🤯 they're supposed to be protecting people, not terrorizing them in their own homes. 🏠 i mean, imagine if someone did that to your family... it's not okay. 🚫 the fact that hayk and his wife were living here for over 20 years and still got treated like this is just heartbreaking. 😔 they're basically being punished for something that has nothing to do with their immigration status. it's all about process, you know? due process... it's supposed to be in place to protect people from things like this. 🤝 molly biklen is spot on - our constitutional rights aren't up for debate. 🙅‍♀️

🤯 this is just crazy what happened to that Brooklyn family it's like they were living in a war zone or something how can you just barge into someone's home with no warrant or consent? it's not even like they broke any laws, they're being punished for trying to fix their own house 🏠🔨. the fact that they were detained without explanation and had their personal stuff taken is just so invasive and humiliating. and now hayk's facing charges because of some alleged renovation project that's got nothing to do with the whole thing it's just another example of how messed up our immigration system is. ICE needs to get its act together and learn what due process means 🤔

man this is so messed up 🤕 i mean can u believe these immigration officers just barge in like that? no warning no warrant nothing... that's straight outta a movie of chaos, right? but at the same time i think about it and i see some silver lining, like how this whole thing is making people wake up to their rights and stuff, you know? it's getting more attention now which means people are gonna be more aware of what's going on. so yeah, its def a dark spot in americas justice system, but im also kinda hopeful that all this heat might bring about some changes 💡

OMG 🤯 u cant even imagine wut that fam went thru!!! these immigration agents r straight outta a bad movie, stormin in w/o no warrant or consent... like, what r they even doin here?! 🤔 hayk was just chillin at home and then BAM! SWAT team bursts in and detains him... that's some real-life cop show drama, lol 😂

anywayz, i feel for this fam and i think its super unfair that they're gettin charged w/ somethin they didnt do. ice is gettin way too aggressive w/ these enforcement actions and its time 4 a change 🙌

🤯 just can't believe what's going on here. like what even is the deal with these immigration agents? they literally barge into people's homes without a warrant or consent? that's not how justice works fam 🚫. and the worst part is, hayk safaryan has been living in the US for over 20 years and he's still being treated like an "other" 🤷‍♂️. it's all about respecting people's rights and treating them with dignity, you know? 👊

this is getting crazy 🤯 the whole thing sounds like a bad movie. i mean, no warrant? just barge in? what's next? they're gonna start showing up at your door and saying "oh yeah, we're the cops"... nope. that ain't how it works.ICE needs to get its act together, or else the government's gonna lose all credibility.

🤯 I mean come on, who does that?! Federal immigration officers just barge into some dude's home without a warrant? That's so messed up! 😡 The fact that they were armed and created this traumatic experience for the Safaryan family is just outrageous. And now Hayk's in ICE custody and his lawyer is saying it's all because of due process rights being trampled on? 🤷‍♂️ It's crazy how these agents are just running around like they're above the law, taking people's stuff without any notice or consent.

I don't get why we have to even live with this kind of uncertainty. Can't we just trust our own neighbors and community members instead of having these federal agents swooping in at random? 🤔 And what's up with ICE? They're supposed to be enforcing the law, not making up their own rules as they go along. It's a total mess! 😤

🤯 OMG u guys this is so crazy! I mean i've seen some wild stuff in my life but this takes the cake. These immigration agents just barge into someones home without even knocking? like what r they even thinking?! 🙄 i feel so bad for that family, hayk and léah are literally traumatized from this experience and their rights were totally disregarded. it's like they're saying "oh we're the authority here" nope not cool. 🚫

i'm also kinda shocked that this is still happening in 2025. i mean we've come so far as a country but apparently we still got work to do. i'm all for immigration reform and stricter rules on these agents but this is just ridiculous. they should be held accountable for their actions.

anyway, i'm just glad that léah spoke out about what happened because her voice matters and we need more people like her speaking up against injustice 🗣️

I'm like totally fumin' about this one 🤯. Like, what's next? The cops just barge into your crib unannounced? No thanks! I get it, immigration can be a tough space, but come on, you gotta have some basic respect for people's rights and personal space, ya know? It's not like these agents were bustin' into the wrong place or somethin', they're in Brooklyn, they're supposed to know who they're dealin' with. This whole thing just feels like a total overreach, if you ask me 💁‍♀️.

🤕 this is totally messed up i mean what even is the protocol here that they just barge in like they own the place? 🚪 and with an "armed SWAT team" no less!!! it's like they're trying to create some kind of war situation right in people's homes. Léah was just being a good citizen by asking questions about their presence and now she's traumatized 😱 and Hayk is stuck in ICE custody without even a fair trial. this whole thing needs to be looked into ASAP so we can make sure our constitutional rights are still protected 🤝

😒🤯 what's up with these ICE agents? Like, can't they just knock and be all friendly for once? They go all SWAT team mode and bust into some dude's apartment w/o a warrant or nothin?! 🚫 That's not how it goes down, fam. And to make matters worse, Léah was just tryna get some breakfast while her hubby was chillin' on the computer... what if she wasn't even home? 🤷‍♂️ And now they're sayin' he's got no due process and his rights were totally disregarded... like, come on! He's been in ICE custody since June for somethin' that might not even be real... 🤑 this whole thing just stinks. 😒

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this 🤯. The fact that Hayk and Léah were just sitting in their own home, having a normal morning, when suddenly an armed SWAT team bursts in is just unbelievable 😱. I mean, what kind of training does it take for someone to knock on the door, ask for ID, and then become a "high-risk" situation? It's like something out of a movie, but it's real life for this family 💔.

And the worst part is that they're just trying to live their lives, pay taxes, work hard... and these agents are like the bad guys 🚫. I get that immigration laws need to be enforced, but not at the cost of people's basic human rights. It's not just about Hayk and Léah; it's about what happens when you start taking away people's due process. We should be protecting our citizens' rights, not trampling them 💪.

I'm so tired of these stories coming out, and we're supposed to just shrug and say "oh well". No, we need to take a stand 👊. We need to make sure that our government is looking out for the little guy (or girl) who's just trying to live their best life. We need to make sure that these agents are held accountable for their actions 🚨.

Anyway, I'm all worked up about this now 😩. Anyone else feeling like something needs to change?

OMG 🤯 this is insane!!! They just barge in like they own the place?! Can't believe ICE is doing this to people who are just trying to make a life here. Like, I get that we need to protect our borders, but do we have to do it at the expense of human rights? 🙅‍♀️ It's not like Hayk was committing any crime, he's just sitting there having breakfast... meanwhile they're rummaging through his stuff and taking away his ID. This is literally a nightmare come true 😱

🤯 this is just wild - someone gets up to the door in the morning and ICE just bursts in willy nilly... like what even is that? 🙄 they're basically saying 'hey, we're gonna take all your stuff and throw you in a van because...' no explanation or nothing. and then they come back three days later without knocking again... 🚪 it's like they think the couple's just sitting around twiddling their thumbs waiting for another chance to get poked around.
