Man, 53, dies after Chatham shooting inside home

A 53-year-old man's life was cut short after being gunned down in a brazen shooting at his own home in the predominantly African American neighborhood of Chatham on Friday night.

According to Chicago police, the victim took multiple bullet wounds and was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was found in critical condition. Tragically, despite receiving medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later, leaving behind a community in shock.

Police say the area 2 detectives are now at the scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which is believed to have occurred around 5:40 pm on Friday evening. The motive behind the fatal attack remains unknown, but police are working tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to this senseless tragedy.

Oh man I just got my new smartphone and I'm still getting used to it 😂. So like what's going on with all these shootings in Chicago? It's crazy how fast something like that can happen at home 🤯. I was thinking about getting a security system for my place, but then again I don't know if they're really effective... or super expensive 🤑. Anyway, back to this guy who got shot, it's so sad what happened to him and his family. The cops are working hard to figure out what went down, hopefully they catch the person responsible 💔. Can someone explain to me how a security camera works on my new phone?
 
😔 this is so sad i cant even imagine how scared the neighbors must've been 🏠💀. it's just not right that someone can be taken from us like that in their own home 🤯. the police are doing a good job investigating, but its still crazy to think that 2 detectives are working on this alone 🕵️‍♂️. i hope they get to the bottom of it and bring some justice to the family 👪💔

🤕 This is just devastating news... can't believe a whole neighborhood has to go through this. I mean, you're sitting in your own home, thinking it's safe, and then BAM! Someone walks in and starts shooting. It's like something out of a movie. The fact that the police are still trying to figure out what happened is what's really getting to me... it's just so frustrating when we can't even get answers. And on top of all this, you've got a family who has to deal with losing a loved one like that? It's just heartbreaking 🤕
 
Ugh 🤕 another one of these senseless shootings in Chicago 🗽️ my heart goes out to the family and friends of the victim 😔 i'm not sure what's going on with this city, it seems like every other day there's a shooting or a robbery or some other violent crime happening. 🚨 can't we just have one safe neighborhood to live in without worrying about our lives being threatened? 💀 i've been following the news on this shooting and my gut is telling me that police are going to be scratching their heads for a long time trying to figure out what happened 🤔 maybe they'll find some surveillance footage or something, but until then, it's just another victim and another family left to pick up the pieces 💔

I've seen all these stories about Chicago being one of the safest big cities in the US and it's just not true for everyone, especially when you're living in neighborhoods like this. The police are doing their job, but it feels like they need more support from the community to help solve crimes like this. omg i'm still trying to process what happened last night in chatham 🤕 that poor guy's life was literally cut short in his own home... it's just so senseless 💔 i feel for his family and the community, it's like, you never know when tragedy can strike 🙏 2 detectives are on the scene now, fingers crossed they get to the bottom of this ASAP. does anyone else think it's crazy that the shooting happened in a neighborhood with such a strong sense of community? i mean, shouldn't we all feel safe at home? 💕 anyway, my heart goes out to the victim and his loved ones... can we ever truly prepare ourselves for these kinds of incidents? 🤔
