Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: Celtic sign ex-Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder on deal until end of season

Celtic have strengthened their squad with the signing of former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The 32-year-old, who was a free agent, has joined the Scottish champions until the end of the season with an option to extend his stay by another year.

Oxlade-Chamberlain's arrival comes after Celtic manager Martin O'Neill confirmed earlier in the week that the club were interested in signing him. Speaking on Celtic TV, Oxlade-Chamberlain said he was "delighted and really excited" about the move and felt like it was a "perfect fit" for him.

The England international has been training with former club Arsenal since mutually terminating his contract with Turkish side Besiktas in August, but ultimately decided to join the Hoops. He is eager to help the team achieve their goals and said he identified with the manager's expectations and the environment at Celtic Park.

Oxlade-Chamberlain will be looking to make an immediate impact for Celtic, who are currently top of the Scottish Premiership title race. The new signing joins new loan signings Tomas Cvancara, Junior Adamu, Joel Mvuka, and Benjamin Arthur as the Hoops look to catch leaders Hearts in the league.

However, Oxlade-Chamberlain will not be able to feature in Celtic's Europa League knockout play-off match against Stuttgart due to his registration not being completed on time. He is expected to make his debut for the club in their next league match against Livingston on Wednesday, live on Sky Sports.

I don't think this is a surprise move... teams always do what they can to boost their squad before the end of the season. And Β£40k a week ain't cheap! I mean, I'm happy for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and all, but has Celtic really solved all their problems with one signing? They're still gonna have to rely on some youngins like Cvancara and Adamu to carry them through the rest of the season.

πŸ˜‚ just think about how far he's come from being a young player with so much potential and now he's getting another shot at big-time football! Celtic are definitely trying to get an edge over Hearts, but that new loan signing Tomas Cvancara is also pretty interesting... might make things more competitive in the league. And yeah, it would've been nice if his registration was done on time for the Europa League match πŸ˜’

lol what a move by Celtic tho 🀯! They're really making a splash this season. I think Oxlade-Chamberlain's arrival is gonna be a game changer for them πŸ’₯. He's got some serious talent and experience under his belt. The fact that he's already training with Arsenal doesn't necessarily mean he's lost his mojo, it just means he was keeping himself sharp πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ. And now, joining the Hoops will give him a fresh start (or not, depending on how you look at it πŸ˜‰). Anyway, I'm hyped to see him in action!

come on guys, a 32-year-old midfielder thinking he can turn it around? πŸ€” alex oxlade-chamberlain has been a journeyman player for years, playing for like 5 teams now and always ending up back at his old club... i mean, it's nice that he's excited but does the Hoops really need him to be top of the league? πŸ† shouldn't they be focusing on their young players like cvancara and adamu who actually have a future in the game? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ anyway, at least it'll be fun to watch him try and make an impact! ⚽️

πŸ€” just saw this news and I'm a bit surprised they didn't go for someone younger πŸ™ƒ especially with how long Oxlade-Chamberlain has been out. don't get me wrong he's got loads of experience and all but I think it's time for them to give some youngsters a chance ⚽️ maybe this will be the spark they need to catch Hearts?

lol what a bold move by Celtic! I mean they know exactly what they're doing here... Oxlade-Chamberlain's skills are gonna boost the team big time πŸ’ͺπŸ”΅. People might say he's a bit old to be making a comeback like this, but I think that's just a negative mindset πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. He's still got it, and at 32, he's got some valuable experience under his belt πŸ™Œ. Plus, Celtic are gonna need all the help they can get if they wanna take down Hearts πŸ’₯πŸ”΄. Bring on Oxlade-Chamberlain's debut against Livingston, I'm hyped to see what he's capable of! πŸ˜ƒ

so alex oxlade-chamberlain is finally joining celtic...but like, isn't he 32 tho? isn't that a bit old to be joining a new team mid-season? πŸ€” also, how much did he really cost the club? is it just 'free agent' meaning no transfer fee or what?

I don’t usually comment but... I think this is a great move for Celtic! They've been playing really well and it's always good to have someone with Oxlade-Chamberlain's experience to help them out. He seems like a really down-to-earth guy too, which is nice. I'm curious to see how he'll fit in with the team, but from what I've seen of him on the pitch, he looks like he can make a difference. And with all these new signings, they're definitely looking strong now. 🀞

I'm hyped that Celtic got Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 🀩! The guy's got experience and skills, but I wonder if he'll be able to gel with the team right away. He was playing second fiddle at Besiktas, so it might take some time for him to find his footing here. Still, 32 isn't old for a midfielder, and O'Neill's management style could help him shine. The addition of Oxlade-Chamberlain will definitely spice up the squad, but I'd love to see how he fits into the team's dynamics...and what kind of role he'll play.

OMG u guys I'm telling u this is all about control 🀯 Celtic just signed Oxlade-Chamberlain to cover up something πŸ˜’ They're not just adding depth to their squad, they're distracting us from the real issue 🚨 What's going on with Martin O'Neill's past? He was a manager at Arsenal and Liverpool but we never hear about him anymore... too convenient 😏 And now he's getting all this attention in Scotland? Like what's really going on here? πŸ€”

omg just heard the news about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joining Celtic FC 🀩! i'm so hyped for this guy, he's a total legend and gonna bring some serious skill to the squad πŸ’ͺ🏽! it's amazing to see him join a team that values hard work and dedication, he must be stoked about the vibe at Celtic Park πŸŒŸπŸ’•. can you imagine him tearing up the pitch against Hearts? πŸ”₯⚽️ gotta support our new Hoops hero all the way πŸ’ͺ🏽!

Just saw that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has joined Celtic 🀩! I think he's gonna bring a lot of energy and skill to the team! Martin O'Neill made an awesome move here, got a player who knows what it takes to win, you feel me? 😊 He was with big clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool, but now he's here to help the Hoops take down Hearts in the league. The manager seems like he knows what he's doing too, got Oxlade-Chamberlain on board and now they're looking strong for a title win! πŸ’ͺ

can't believe celts managed to snag ox without them dropping a ton of cash lol they must've really wanted him 32 and still got it though no way he's just going to come out of nowhere and save the season for them already 3 points at the top, that's all they need to keep the pressure on hearts

This transfer saga reminds me of the American system where top talent can switch teams mid-season and still try to chase a title πŸ€”. In Scotland, Celtic's aggressive pursuit of Oxlade-Chamberlain raises questions about the club's commitment to youth development 🀝. Is it a smart move to bring in an experienced player or is it just a case of splashing cash for short-term success? We've seen this tactic play out before in sports, like when teams invest heavily in star players and neglect their academy programs πŸ’Έ.

Meanwhile, Oxlade-Chamberlain's decision to join Celtic also highlights the challenges faced by players seeking flexibility in their contracts πŸ“ˆ. The fact that he was training with Arsenal but ultimately chose Celtic raises questions about the allure of a short-term contract versus long-term stability 🀝. It's a reminder that even for professional athletes, finding the right balance between personal and professional goals is crucial πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈ.

The addition of Oxlade-Chamberlain also puts pressure on Hearts to maintain their lead in the Scottish Premiership πŸ’ͺ. Will they be able to stay focused and defend their title, or will Celtic's new signing prove to be a game-changer? Only time will tell ⏰.

Yaaas, Celtic just got even stronger with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joining the squad 🀩πŸ’ͺ! I'm so hyped for him and the team, they're gonna crush it this season 😎! Martin O'Neill knows what he's doing bringing in a player like Oxlade-Chamberlain who has experience playing at top level clubs. He's definitely going to make an impact on the pitch πŸ’₯!

I'm soooo down on this signing πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Celtic's squad is already stacked with talented players, and bringing in another 32-year-old midfielder just feels like they're trying to hold onto the past πŸ•°οΈ. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been around the block a few times, and I'm not convinced he can make an impact on this team. What's next? Signing Jamie Carragher as their new goalkeeper? πŸ˜‚

πŸ€” I'm loving the latest move by Celtic - signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a game-changer! He's definitely got some big shoes to fill with the team already looking strong, but I think he'll fit right in. His experience playing for England and Liverpool should give him an edge over some of the other players, and his age might actually be an advantage - sometimes older players bring a bit of wisdom to the pitch! 😊 Can't wait to see him play live at Celtic Park - fingers crossed for a big win against Hearts! πŸ‘

I'm still trying to figure out why Celtic thought they needed a 32-year-old midfielder at this point πŸ€”. Like, what's the plan? You're top of the table and suddenly you just need some old player to fill in? πŸ† I mean, I guess it's better than nothing, but can't they get someone younger and more agile or something? πŸ˜’

omg this is a game changer for celtic lol think oxlade chamberlain can bring some serious depth to that midfield they need it tbh he's been training with arsenal and must've been itching to get back into the swing of things now i'm hyped for him to come in and cause some chaos on the pitch
