Eternity to Queer: the seven best films to watch on TV this week

This week's TV listings are filled with a diverse range of films that cater to different tastes and genres.

For those in the mood for romance, 'Eternity' offers a charming drama about love and loss. The film follows Larry, who dies accidentally after 65 years of marriage to Elizabeth Olsen's terminally ill Joan. He finds himself in an afterlife transit hotel where he must select one of many themed worlds in which to live forever. Teller, Olsen, and Turner deliver a perfect balance of wit and warmth in this heartwarming drama.

Fans of Turkish cinema will be captivated by 'Crossing', Levan Akin's deeply moving drama about a retired Georgian teacher searching for her long-lost transgender niece in Istanbul. This poignant film explores themes of poverty, illegality, and exploitation, yet ultimately offers a message of hope and friendship.

Anna Kendrick shines as Alice, a woman whose life is turned upside down by an abusive relationship. 'Alice, Darling' is a chilling and enraging tale about the many forms of abuse, with Mary Nighy delivering a standout performance.

Luca Guadagnino's adaptation of William Burroughs's novella 'Queer' is a steamy and lush drama that explores themes of unrequited love and surreal goings-on. Daniel Craig delivers a bravura performance as Lee, a gay American expat who falls hopelessly in love with a mysterious man.

For sci-fi fans, 'The Astronaut' offers a tense and unsettling film about an astronaut who returns to Earth after a re-entry that went wrong, only to find herself experiencing visual and auditory hallucinations. Kate Mara shines in this chiller of a film.

Lastly, for those looking for some family-friendly entertainment, 'How to Train Your Dragon' is a delightful live-action adaptation of the beloved animated comedy. The film follows Hiccup, a young Viking who befriends one of the dragons that raid his village, and delivers a fun and entertaining ride.

In the world of musicals, Baz Luhrmann's 'Moulin Rouge!' is a fever dream of a movie that combines great opera, Bollywood dance routines, songs by Elton John and Nirvana, and Greek mythology in a heady melting pot of fin-de-siècle Paris. While it may be overwhelming at times, the film features standout performances from Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman as star-crossed lovers set amidst colourful extravagance.

just watched queers lol its so trippy but also kinda beautiful in a weird way 🤯 think luca guadagnino really captured the surreal vibe of the novel... not sure about alice darling though, anna kendrick is always good but this one seems super triggering for me 🤕

Omg I'm so down for 'Eternity' right now 🤩! The idea of an afterlife transit hotel is literally genius. And I love that the cast is all so talented, it's like they're meant to be in this movie together 💕. On a different note, I've been hearing mixed reviews about 'Moulin Rouge!' and I'm not sure if I'll have time for it. It sounds so over-the-top but at the same time, who can resist Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman on screen? 😍

Also, I've seen some people raving about 'The Astronaut' online 🚀 and I think I might need to check that out too. Kate Mara always looks so cool in her roles, maybe this one will be no exception 🔥. And honestly, how can you go wrong with a good musical? It's like Baz Luhrmann is trying to make the most of his reputation for being bold 🎭.

omg u guyz this week's tv listings are literally the best i was thinking of watching something rom-com like 'Eternity' with elizabeth olsen but now that i see the rest of the films i'm kinda torn between 'Crossing', 'Alice, Darling' and 'Moulin Rouge!' idk which one to choose lol 'How to Train Your Dragon' looks so funny and nostalgic what's up with all these new adaptations of old movies tho?

Ugh, I'm so over these rom-coms 🙄... "Eternity" sounds like just another sappy love story about some dude dying after 65 years of marriage LOL... but you know what? I kinda wanna watch it with my partner 😊. Anna Kendrick in 'Alice, Darling' though, that sounds super intense and thought-provoking... I need to see her performance ASAP! 🎥

And can we talk about how Turkish cinema is finally getting some recognition? 'Crossing' looks so hauntingly beautiful 🌫️. Levan Akin's direction must be mesmerizing. And for fans of sci-fi, 'The Astronaut' sounds like a total thrill ride 😱... Kate Mara in a creepy astronaut storyline? Yes, please! 👽

I'm also hyped about the live-action 'How to Train Your Dragon' adaptation 🐉... who wouldn't want to see Hiccup's adventures come to life on the big screen? 🎥 And Baz Luhrmann's 'Moulin Rouge!' is just so... over-the-top, right? 😂 It's like he took every great song and dance number from the past century and mashed them all together into this wild, crazy ride. Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman as star-crossed lovers? Fomo! 💔

I'm loving the variety on this week's TV listings! 🎥 The fact that they've got a range of films catering to different tastes is amazing. I mean, who doesn't want to watch a romance drama about love and loss (Eternity) or a Turkish drama that explores themes of poverty and exploitation but ultimately offers hope and friendship? ✨ Crossing sounds like a really powerful film.

I'm also intrigued by Luca Guadagnino's adaptation of 'Queer'. It sounds so... unusual, in the best possible way. I love how it combines unrequited love with surreal goings-on, and Daniel Craig's performance as Lee sounds just fantastic. 🤩 And for sci-fi fans, 'The Astronaut' seems like a real nail-biter.

But what really caught my eye was 'How to Train Your Dragon'. I mean, who wouldn't want to watch a live-action adaptation of the beloved animated comedy? It sounds like such a fun film! 🐉 I'm also curious about Baz Luhrmann's 'Moulin Rouge!' - it's got all these crazy elements mixed together, but with standout performances from Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. That's what makes me want to give it a watch!

I do think Anna Kendrick's performance in 'Alice, Darling' is going to be really interesting to see though. Abusive relationships are such complex issues, and I'm not sure how the film tackles them. We'll just have to wait and see! 🤔

Ugh, I'm so over how cluttered this TV listings page is 🤯📺. Can't they just organize it by genre or something? It's like they're trying to make us scroll forever 🙄. And what's up with all the random blurbs about different worlds and stuff in that first movie review? I mean, I get it, it sounds cool, but can't they just give me a quick summary without all the extraneous details? 😐. And why do they always have to include so many emojis? Can't we just read the reviews without being bombarded with colorful graphics and silly faces 🤪.

just watched the trailer for 'Eternity' 🕰️ and I gotta say its got me thinking about love after loss... my grandma passed away last year and it was like a part of me died too, so to see this movie now is kinda weird but in a good way? 😊 anyway, its got Elizabeth Olsen and Teller together which means its gonna be interesting to watch. also saw 'Crossing' and its got that gritty Istanbul vibe going on... been there myself and it brought back memories 🌆. dont know if ill be watching the rest but those two caught my eye 👀

I don’t usually comment but I feel like 'Eternity' is gonna be a bit of a tearjerker for me. I love romances and 65 years of marriage is just so... long. But the afterlife transit hotel concept is wild, you know? I think it's gonna be really interesting to see how they balance the drama with the weirdness of that setting 🤯. And Elizabeth Olsen and Teller are always great together. Fingers crossed for some good sobs during this film 😭

Wow 🤩 'Moulin Rouge!' is like totally insane but in a good way, you know? All those different styles and genres mixed together must be super confusing but I think that's what makes it so interesting 😂. And Ewan McGregor's performance as Christian is just wow, he's so charming and charismatic on screen! 👏
