Philly Pops to make South Jersey debut with music from ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘Encanto’

The Philly Pops orchestra is set to make its South Jersey debut with a concert showcasing beloved Disney classics and award-winning dramas. The March 14 performance at Rowan University's Pfleeger Concert Hall will be titled "Blockbusters in the 'Burbs" and marks the first time the newly revamped ensemble has taken the stage on campus.

Under the direction of Australian conductor Christopher Dragon, the orchestra will perform a diverse selection of film music, including iconic Disney tracks from "Beauty and the Beast," "Encanto," as well as critically acclaimed scores from "Schindler's List." Additional hits from "The Incredibles" and "Catch Me if You Can" round out the program.

In a nod to sensory sensitivity, the concert will be presented in a relaxed format, catering to audience members on the autism spectrum. This approach aims to create an inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy the music.

This upcoming performance marks an exciting milestone for the newly reconstituted Philly Pops orchestra, which was formed in 2023 by former musicians of the previous ensemble and has since adopted the "Philly Pops" name from the estate of Music Director Emeritus Peter Nero. Dragon brings his Australian conducting expertise to the table, having previously served as assistant conductor with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets for the concert are now available and range in price from $10 for youth tickets and free admission for Rowan students, up to $35 for general admission. Discounts apply for certain groups, including Rowan alumni, employees, seniors 55 and older, Glassboro residents, and military members.

The "Blockbusters in the 'Burbs" concert takes place on Saturday, March 14 at 3 p.m., at Pfleeger Concert Hall at Rowan University's North Campus.

I'm thinking this is gonna be lit 🤩! An orchestra playing Disney classics and award-winning dramas sounds like a dream come true for movie buffs. I love that they're making it sensory-friendly, too – it's all about inclusivity now 💖. The Aussie conductor bringing his skills to the Philly Pops is a big plus 👏. And those prices are pretty reasonable 🤑. Can't wait to see what other fun concerts they have lined up!

OMG, I'm literally SO excited for this concert!!! 🎵👏 The idea of a relaxed format for audience members with sensory sensitivities is EVERYTHING! 🤗 It's so awesome that the Philly Pops orchestra is making an effort to be inclusive and welcoming to everyone. And can we talk about the lineup? Disney classics and Schindler's List scores?! 😍 I've been waiting for this since 2023 when it was formed, and now they're taking the stage at Rowan University! 🎉 The fact that tickets are affordable and discounts are available for certain groups is amazing. It's going to be a fabulous show with a talented conductor like Christopher Dragon at the helm 🙌

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s awesome that they’re doing this inclusive thing for people with autism 🤝🏻. Like, music is something everyone can enjoy and it should be accessible to everyone too, right? And Disney classics are so iconic - who doesn’t love a good "Be Our Guest" moment 🎶💫. I also love that they’re bringing in an Aussie conductor, Christopher Dragon sounds like a cool cat 🐱🕺. The relaxed format is a nice touch and it's great to see them catering to sensory sensitivity. Can't wait to check out the concert and support this amazing orchestra 🎵👏

OMG, I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS CONCERT!!! 🎵🎉 IT'S GONNA BE AMAZING! THE FACT THAT THEY'RE PUTTING IN THIS EFFORT TO CREATE AN INCCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR PEOPLE ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM IS REALLY COOL. I MEAN WHO DOESN'T LOVE DISNEY CLASSICS?! AND SCHINDLER'S LIST SCORES?! IT'S LIKE THEY'RE TALKING TO EVERYONE! 👏 AND I LOVE THAT TICKETS ARE AFFORDABLE, ESPECIALLY FOR ROWAN STUDENTS AND ALUMNI. I'M TOTALLY GETTING MY MOM TO TAKE ME THERE, SHE LOVES THE PHILLY POPS TOO 🎶

🤔 I'm not sure why they're calling it a 'debut'... it's basically just gonna be some musicians playing Disney songs in a hall 🎶. And what's with the "relaxed format" for people on the autism spectrum? What does that even mean? Is it gonna be extra quiet or something? 🤷‍♂️ I'd love to see some sources on how this whole sensory sensitivity thing is being implemented. Also, isn't Rowan university a public institution? Why are concerts like this still so pricey for most people? Shouldn't it be free or at least more affordable? 😒

Man I'm so down for this 🎵👍! I remember when my kids were little we'd watch Disney movies over and over again and just sing along to the soundtrack. It brings back such nostalgic memories of family movie nights 😊. And now they're all grown up with their own kids, it's cool that they can share this experience with them too 👫. The fact that it's being made accessible for people on the autism spectrum is really thoughtful 🤗. I'm sure it'll be a hit! The Philly Pops orchestra must be doing something right since they're reviving the old name from Peter Nero's estate 💯.

🎵 I'm so stoked that the Philly Pops orchestra is coming to South Jersey! I've been a fan of their music for years and it's awesome that they're reviving some old-school Disney classics 🤩. But what really gets me excited is that they're making an effort to be more inclusive with this "Blockbusters in the 'Burbs" concert 🎉. Sensory sensitivity is so important, especially for people on the autism spectrum, and it's great that they're catering to their needs 🌈. I'm definitely gonna check out this concert, and I think a lot of other people will too! The price points are pretty reasonable too, even with some discounts available 🤑. Bring on March 14th and get ready for an epic musical experience 🎶💥
