The Ashes: England bowlers hit back at Australia on opening day in Perth

England's fast bowlers exploded into life on a bouncy Perth pitch, leaving Australia reeling as the first Ashes Test day delivered an unforgettable spectacle.

In a display of ferocity that has been missing from English cricket for far too long, captain Ben Stokes spearheaded a five-man pace attack that tore through Australia's batting line-up to take 19 wickets on day one. The most impressive individual effort was from Jofra Archer, who bowled with incredible speed and accuracy to claim career-best figures of seven for 58.

Zak Crawley was the first England batsman to fall, caught behind off Mitchell Starc's second ball. Ollie Pope batted sensibly but couldn't prevent his team's batting collapse. Harry Brook played some attacking cricket but ultimately fell to a sharp piece of bowling from Brendan Doggett.

Brook's innings of 52 from just 32 deliveries will be remembered as one of the greatest in English cricket history, with him spending more time running down the pitch to confront the Australian bowlers than standing still. The rest of England's batting line-up quickly followed suit, with their last five wickets falling for a mere 12 runs.

The bowling attack showed remarkable unity and discipline, with Archer being supported by Brydon Carse and Gus Atkinson. Even the usually prolific Steve Smith was tormented, bowled by Stokes after being forced to shuffle up the order due to Usman Khawaja's absence from the field.

The Australian batting line-up will need to be more focused if they are going to prevent England from taking a 1-0 lead in the series. They lost nine wickets for just 30 runs, with Travis Head and Cameron Green providing some resistance before falling to Atkinson and Stokes respectively.

As for England, their fast bowlers have finally found their form and will be hopeful of causing further damage on day two. With the game still very much in their sights, it remains to be seen if Pope can keep his cool and guide his team to victory.

lol what a day at the crick one day after england's pace attack completely destroyed australia's batting line up i mean 19 wickets on day one thats crazy ben stokes and jofra archer were like two peas in a pod destroying the aussie batsmen with their speed and accuracy ๐Ÿคฏ

England's fast bowlers are like me after a pint down the pub - they just get more aggressive and intense by the minute! Ben Stokes is like the master of chaos, taking 19 wickets like he's trying to take over the Ashes (just kidding, captain)! Jofra Archer's career-best figures? That's like me finding my old phone's charger in a million years of searching - pure magic!

Blimey ๐Ÿคฏ that's some serious pace action on display today! Archer was on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ with those 7 wickets for 58, I mean what a performance? The Aussie batsmen were getting absolutely pummelled ๐Ÿ‘Š and it's no wonder England took control of the game so quickly. The English bowlers showed so much unity and discipline, it's like they were all speaking the same language ๐Ÿค. Man, what a day at the cricket ๐Ÿ! I'm loving the way England's pace attack came out swinging โ€“ it was like they'd finally found their mojo ๐Ÿ’ฅ. Stokes is on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ, and that Jofra Archer performance? Career-best figures for sure ๐Ÿ‘. The Aussies are reeling after getting thrashed by 19 wickets on day one ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. And Brook's innings of 52 in just 32 deliveries? Unbelievable ๐Ÿคฏ. He's basically a hero in my books ๐Ÿ™Œ. I'm intrigued to see how the Australians regroup and try to contain England's attack on day two โฐ. It's going to be a real nail-biter, for sure ๐Ÿ’ช!

๐Ÿคฏ Blud, what a day for England's bowlers!!! They were like a well-oiled machine out there! Archer was on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ, and Stokes was everywhere! I love how the Aussie batsmen just couldn't handle the pace. Smith got smashed by Stokes and that was it! ๐Ÿ’ฃ Pope needs to step up now or the Ashes might be slipping away for them ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. England's bowlers have finally found their rhythm, and they're gonna keep putting pressure on the Aussies all day long ๐Ÿ”ช. Bring it on! ๐Ÿ‘Š

omg did u catch the ashes game last nite?? england's fast bowlers r on fire!! ben stokes is like a superhero out there, and jofra archer's speed & accuracy r insane!!! i loved brook's innings tho, 52 runs in just 32 deliveries? what a legend! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ the aussie batsmen need to step up their game if they wanna stop england from taking a 1-0 lead ๐Ÿค”

omg, england's pace attack was pure FIRE ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ด today! ben stokes leading them all the way is a dream come true, 7 wickets for jofra archer tho ๐Ÿ˜ฒ that's insane speed & accuracy! brook's innings of 52 in just 32 deliveries? ๐Ÿคฏ most memorable moment ever! australia's batsmen need to get their heads back in the game ASAP ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿ˜ฑ England's pace attack is finally back on ๐Ÿ”ฅ! Ben Stokes & co absolutely smashed Australia on Day 1 ๐Ÿคฏ. Jofra Archer was a beast, but Brook's 52 runs off just 32 deliveries? ๐Ÿ’ฅ that's some next-level cricket! The Aussie batsmen looked like they were in a daze out there... poor show ๐Ÿ˜ด. England's got a great chance of taking a 1-0 lead, fingers crossed ๐Ÿคž

idk about stokes being so good, he's been through a lot of injuries and is way past his prime ๐Ÿค”. also, australia's batsmen are literally just standing there like deer in the headlights, no idea how they got bowled for 12 runs ๐Ÿ˜‚. archer's figures are insane but we've seen him do that before too, still not convinced he's the real deal ๐Ÿ‘€. england needs to keep up the pressure and don't let australia get back into it ๐Ÿšซ

omg this is insane!!! england's pace attack was so fired up today ๐Ÿคฏ! ben stokes leading from the front with that 7/58 from jofra archer ๐Ÿ˜ฒ, what a career best! and zak crawley getting out for just 1 run lol. but brook's 52 in just 32 is seriously something else ๐Ÿ”ฅ, the way he was running down the pitch like he wasn't even playing cricket anymore ๐Ÿคฃ! anyways, aussie batsmen need to step up their game if they wanna take this lead back from england ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. can't wait for day 2 to see what pope and co got in store ๐Ÿ’ช

.. this Ashes Test is already shaping up to be a cracker! I mean, Ben Stokes and those guys just brought so much heat on that Perth pitch ๐ŸŒก๏ธ! It's been ages since England's fast bowlers have looked like that, and it's great to see them finally getting the job done. That 19-wicket haul is insane! And Brook's innings? Whoa, what a finisher ๐Ÿ˜ฒ! The way he just went for broke, running down the pitch like he was playing video games ๐ŸŽฎ... I love it!

But you know what's even more impressive? The Aussie batsmen themselves. They were like, totally clueless out there ๐Ÿ˜‚. Losing nine wickets for 30 runs is a bit of a wake-up call. And poor Steve Smith, getting tormented by Stokes after being shuffled up the order... poor guy just couldn't get into his zone ๐Ÿค”.

I'm really loving this Ashes series so far, and I think England's got a great chance of taking it 1-0 or even further ๐Ÿ”ฅ! Will Pope be able to keep his cool and guide them to victory? We'll have to wait and see, but for now... bring on day two! ๐ŸŽ‰
