Two additional former employees of legendary soul singer Smokey Robinson have come forward with accusations of sexual assault. The two men claim that Robinson subjected them to unwanted physical contact while they were working at his estate.
The male employee alleged that Robinson fondled himself in front of him and attempted to make him touch his genitals. He is not the first former employee to level such allegations against the singer, who is already facing similar accusations from four other former employees. The women involved claim that Robinson repeatedly made them touch him while he was showering.
Robinson's defense team has dismissed these claims as part of an "organised, avaricious campaign" to extort money from the 85-year-old singer. In contrast, his wife Frances is being sued over allegations of labour violations and using ethnically pejorative language. The plaintiffs are seeking $50 million in damages.
Smokey Robinson's lawyers have also filed a counter-suit against the accusers, alleging defamation and elder abuse. The singer claims that the women he has accused of assault were financially rewarded for their false claims, including gifts and funding dental treatment. However, despite these allegations, Robinson continues to perform, with recent concerts at the Love Supreme jazz festival in the UK.
Robinson's career is built on his iconic hits with the Miracles and as a solo artist, which includes 24 albums. His legacy also extends to writing songs for other Motown artists, such as My Girl and Get Ready for the Temptations. However, his reputation has been tarnished by these allegations, which he has vehemently denied.
