Know your enemy: Should the Eagles view the Cowboys' new-look pass rush as legit, or one-week wonder?

Eagles, Cowboys' New-look Pass Rush Sparks Debate: Legit or One-Week Wonder?

The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys have undergone significant personnel changes on defense since their Thursday night season opener at the Linc. The Eagles, who were plagued by questions about their edge rush, have bolstered their pass rush with the trade for EDGE Jaelan Phillips, the return of LB Nakobe Dean, and the re-emergence of EDGE Brandon Graham from retirement.

The Cowboys, meanwhile, have made a concerted effort to improve their defense after being rocked by injuries for most of the season. They've signed veteran pass rusher Jadaveon Clowney, traded for three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, and welcomed back impact linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.

While it's tempting to view the Cowboys as a one-week wonder, their recent performance against the Raiders suggests that they may be more than just a flash in the pan. Williams, in particular, is undeniably one of the NFL's better interior pass rushers, with 12 sacks in 2022 and three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances.

Clowney, a journeyman for the past seven years, remains a powerful situational pass rusher whose impact is amplified when surrounded by equal or better talent. He had 9.5 sacks for the Ravens two years ago and 9 in 2021 while playing opposite Myles Garrett for the Browns.

The Cowboys' defense has been able to generate consistent pressure, particularly through their interior trio of Williams, Osa Odighizuwa, and Kenny Clark. The edge group, which includes Clowney, James Houston, and rookie Donovan Ezeiruaku, has worked well on stunts and various alignments that cleared their paths to the quarterback.

One notable example is a four-man rush against the Raiders' offensive line, where Williams and Clark created interior pressure while Clowney met Smith at the top of the pocket to hit him and cause a fumble. This kind of look usually signals a stunt, but the Cowboys executed it effectively, with all three pass rushers meeting at Smith to secure a sack.

However, the Eagles are not without their own challenges. They'll be without franchise right tackle Lane Johnson, who is sidelined indefinitely from a Lisfranc foot sprain, and Cam Jurgens is coming off a concussion. The Pro Bowl center has struggled this year after back surgery.

The Cowboys' defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus, has shown an ability to adapt his blitz scheme to exploit weaknesses in the opponent's offense. He blitzed at close to 30% against the Raiders and was able to collapse the pocket, forcing errant throws.

Ultimately, the answer to whether the Cowboys are a legitimate improvement or just a one-week wonder remains to be seen. Their performance against the Raiders suggests that they may be more than just a flash in the pan, but it's too early to make any concrete conclusions.

I think its legit when you see teams like cowboys making such big moves and then seeing them pay off in games 😊πŸ’ͺ. They added quinnen williams who is like one of the best interior pass rushers and also got clowney back which was a huge loss for their defense. And it looks like they've built something good with matt eberflus' blitz scheme. But you never know, one week wonder can turn into 3 weeks wonder or more lol πŸ˜‚. Eagles are gonna have to step up without lane johnson tho πŸ€•

Idk why ppl think cowboys are a legit improvement πŸ€”. They got a new pass rusher, yeah big deal, its not like jagaevon clowney hasnt been with multiple teams and never gotten more than 10 sacks in one season lol. Philly on the other hand is looking good, i mean who wouldn't want jaelan phillips and nakobe dean on their side? πŸ’₯

they're doing a pretty good job at building that new pass rush, but i'm still on the fence about clowney - he can be super effective when surrounded by better talent, but what if they lose guys like williams or odighizuwa to injury? and with jurgens dealing with concussions, you never know how that'll impact their ability to get pressure in. also, how much of their "new-look" is just a result of getting healthy vs actual changes to the scheme?

idk about the cowboys πŸ€”, some of those moves seem legit, like signing clowney and quinnen williams... dude was on fire last year πŸ’₯. but at the same time, they've been getting destroyed by injuries for months now so i'm not sure how long this momentum lasts... seems like they're trying to hide the fact that they still have some major holes in their defense 🚨

idk what all the hype is about... i mean dont get me wrong the cowboys pass rush looks fire right now 🀩 especially w/ williams and clowney on the same team its def a scary sight for opposing QBs... but we need to see how they hold up against the likes of josh allen or pat mahomes, those guys are the real deal πŸ€‘

πŸ€” The Eagles' new-look pass rush is giving me some mixed vibes 🎯. On one hand, the addition of Jaelan Phillips and Brandon Graham could be game-changers πŸ’₯. But with Lane Johnson out and Cam Jurgens nursing a concussion, I'm not sure if their O-line can keep up πŸ”₯.

The Cowboys' pass rush is looking pretty fierce though! 🀯 With Quinnen Williams and Jadaveon Clowney leading the charge, they're definitely a force to be reckoned with πŸ’ͺ. Their interior trio of Williams, Odighizuwa, and Clark is creating some serious heat πŸ”©.

I think it's too early to say whether the Cowboys are a legit improvement or just one-week wonder πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. But I do know that their recent performance against the Raiders was impressive πŸ™Œ. We'll have to wait and see how they stack up against other teams in the league πŸ‘€

πŸ€” The thing is, you can't count out the Eagles just 'cause they're missing Lane Johnson and Cam Jurgens. That's like saying the Cowboys are a one-week wonder just 'cause of their recent win πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. Both teams have made some big moves to boost their pass rush, and it's gonna be interesting to see how these new guys fit in. Williams for the Cowboys is definitely a player to watch - 12 sacks last year is no joke! πŸ’₯ But at the same time, you gotta consider that both teams are still figuring things out after all those offseason changes πŸ”„. Maybe we'll get some more clarity on this in a few weeks?

im loving what im seeing from both teams atm 😊, but i gotta say, its getting harder to tell who the "real deal" is these days πŸ€” the eagles have that awesome pass rush and deion jones looks like a game changer on defense πŸ’₯ meanwhile, clowney and quinnen williams are having a blast on d-line 🀯 hows everyone feeling about these teams?

I'm low-key obsessed with the Cowboys' new pass rush 🀯! The addition of Quinnen Williams is a game-changer, and I've got the stats to prove it 😎. In 2022, he had 12 sacks in just 16 games, which averages out to like, 0.75 sacks per game πŸ“Š. That's insane for an interior pass rusher! And let's not forget Clowney's resume - 9.5 sacks in 2021 while playing opposite Myles Garrett? The dude's got juice πŸ’ͺ.

Here's a chart of the Cowboys' edge rushers this season so far:

| Player | Sacks | Tackle Breakdown |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Quinnen Williams | 4 | 24/35 Tackles @ the Line |
| Jadaveon Clowney | 3.5 | 17/27 Tackles @ the Line |
| Donovan Ezeiruaku | 2 | 11/18 Tackles @ the Line |

But what really gets me is how well their defense has performed under Matt Eberflus's blitz scheme πŸ€”. They're blitzing at close to 30% and collapsing the pocket, forcing errant throws 🚫.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are dealing with some injuries of their own... Lane Johnson's out for a bit, and Cam Jurgens is coming off a concussion πŸ€•. Not sure how that'll affect their pass rush without their franchise right tackle πŸ€”

lol, gotta love the cowboy's new pass rush! πŸ˜‚ i mean, jadaveon clowney is a total beast! he's like a one-man wrecking crew, especially when paired with quinnen williams and osa odighizuwa. they're like a well-oiled machine out there, working together to get after the quarterback.

and let's not forget about donovan ezeiruaku, the rookie who's already making waves in the league! 😎 he's got some serious potential and i'm excited to see how he develops as a player. the fact that the cowboys are able to generate consistent pressure like this is a huge plus for their team.

the question is, can they keep it up? will they be able to make it through the season without injuries or slumps? we'll just have to wait and see, but for now, i'm loving the vibe around the cowboys' defense. πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€”πŸ’₯ so i think its not that easy to say if cowboys r legit improvement or just 1 wk wonder yet...i mean dey r makin waves w/ all these new players & coaching changes, especially w/ quinnen williams lookin like a beast on dline 🀯 but at the same time, eagles r dealin w/ injuries & some of their key players r out for extended periods of time 😬 so lets not jump to conclusions yet πŸ‘€

I mean, the Cowboys' new pass rush is defo making waves! πŸ’₯ They've got some legit talent now and it shows on the field. Jadaveon Clowney, Quinnen Williams, and DeMarvion Overshown are a formidable trio. Their defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus, seems to know what he's doing too... for once πŸ˜‰. The Eagles, on the other hand, lost Lane Johnson and now Cam Jurgens is dealing with a concussion? Guess you could say their offense is having some identity issues πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how these teams continue to develop throughout the season. Bring. It. On! πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” I'm super skeptical about the whole "Cowboys' new look pass rush is legit" hype πŸ™„ They're only one game into it and already getting some love πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ One-week wonder or not, we need more than just a single impressive performance to believe they've turned things around. And don't even get me started on Quinnen Williams' stats from last year – yeah sure, he had 12 sacks in 2022, but that's gonna be tough to repeat this year πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The Eagles are looking shaky too πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ Lane Johnson out and Cam Jurgens coming off a concussion? Not exactly the most solid foundation for their defense 😬

I gotta say, I'm loving the Cowboys' new-look pass rush πŸ€©πŸ’¨. They're like a well-oiled machine out there, and Jaelan Phillips is totally bringing that heat πŸ”₯πŸ‘Š. But, let's be real, it's gonna take more than just one game to convince me they're not just a flash in the pan ⏰. I mean, 12 sacks from Quinnen Williams last year? That's some next-level stuff 🀯! And don't even get me started on Jadaveon Clowney – the guy's like a force of nature πŸ’₯. The Eagles are gonna have to step up their game if they wanna compete with these guys πŸ‘€. Bring it on, I say! 😏

THE COWBOYS ARE FOR SURE NOT JUST A ONE-WEEK WONDER!!! 🀯 THEY'VE GOT SOME SERIOUS PASS RUSH TALENT ON THEIR HANDS WITH WILLIAMS AND CLOWNEY. THE WAY THEY WORKED TOGETHER AGAINST THE RAIDERS WAS PURE MAGIC, IT LOOKED LIKE A STUNT THAT WENT OFF WITHOUT A HITCH! 🎩

AND LET'S BE REAL, THE EAGLES AREN'T IN THE CLEAR EITHER. LOSING LANE JOHNSON FOR INDEFINITE TIME IS A BIG BLOW AND CAM JURGENS IS STILL RECOVERING FROM HIS CONCUSSION. THEY NEED TO GET THEIR OLINE SORTED OUT FAST IF THEY WANT TO KEEP UP WITH THESE COWBOYS! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
