'A Thanksgiving classic': why Stuck in Love is my feelgood movie

A Thanksgiving classic: why Stuck in Love is my feelgood movie

For me, the holiday season always begins with a familiar scene - mashing potatoes, prepping a turkey, and setting the table for what promises to be an awkward, yet ultimately loving family dinner. It's become a tradition to watch "Stuck in Love," a 2012 indie rom-com that expertly navigates the complexities of love, loss, and self-discovery.

The film follows Bill Borgens, an unhappily divorced novelist (played by Greg Kinnear) who tries to foster his two teenage children's literary ambitions while dealing with his own emotional baggage. His son Rusty (Nat Wolff), a hopeless romantic, is trying to navigate high school love and relationships, much like I was in my angsty teenage years.

What resonates deeply with me about this movie is the way it captures the nuances of being stuck - not just in love, but in life's journey. Sam (Lily Collins), Bill's daughter, is a literary nepo baby trying to define herself outside her father's shadow. Her cynicism and skepticism towards love are relatable, especially during my own high school years when I thought I knew what love was all about.

As the movie unfolds, we witness each character stepping out of their comfort zones, experiencing growth, and eventually finding their way back home. The familiar whistle of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros' "Home" plays throughout, serving as a nostalgic reminder of this film's impact on my life.

The perfect full-circle ending to Stuck in Love makes it an unofficial Thanksgiving classic. The movie's message of hope, imperfection, and taking action is what keeps me coming back to it every November. It's the reason I've watched it almost every year for over a decade - a call to live life instead of letting it happen to us.

What solidifies this film as a holiday staple is its reflection on the in-between periods of life. Like Thanksgiving being the odd child of end-of-year holidays, Stuck in Love is about those transitional moments when we're forced to confront our emotions and take steps towards growth. It's an imperfect yet beautiful portrayal of people trying, and that's what makes it my go-to feelgood movie every November.

I remember watching this film back in the day 🎥, it really resonated with me, I was in a similar situation like Rusty's character, trying to figure out love and life 🤔. The way Sam grows from being all cynical and stuck in her ways to finding her own path is so inspiring 💖. It's funny how this movie has become my annual tradition, watching it every year after Thanksgiving is just the best 🍽️. I think what keeps me coming back to it is the reminder that life is about taking those imperfect steps towards growth and learning 💪.

Ugh, I mean, I totally get why this film would be a fave during the holidays 🙄, but can't we talk about how cliché the whole "awkward family dinner" scene is? Like, how many times have we seen that played out in movies and TV shows already? And don't even get me started on the predictable ending - it's like the writer just checked off all the boxes for a feel-good movie. But hey, I guess if you're into that sorta thing, "Stuck in Love" might be up your alley 🎥.

🍁💕 I'm totally with you on this one! Stuck in Love is like the perfect Thanksgiving movie - all the feels, no judgments. 🤗 I love how it captures that awkward family dinner vibe, but also gets real about the struggles we face as teenagers (or, let's be real, as adults too). 🙃 Sam's character, in particular, resonates with me - who hasn't felt like they're stuck in a rut and just trying to figure out their own way? 🤔 The music is also amazing - that Edward Sharpe song gives me chills every time! 💖 It's so refreshing to see a movie that celebrates imperfection and growth over some cheesy, unrealistic romance. Can we please make Stuck in Love an official Thanksgiving classic already?! 🎉

idk why ppl still watch this movie every year... its just a bunch of rich kids whining about their problems 🤦‍♂️ but im guessin its the nostalgia thing for u lol... thinkin back to ur angsty teenage years and all that jazz is super relatable though 😂 anyway, stucks in love is def a feelgood movie, but its not like its the only one out there 🙄

🤕 just watched a report that says climate change is causing more extreme weather events, like longer heatwaves and heavier rainfall 🌡️. some scientists say we're already running out of time to stop it...

🍁️ I'm so with you on this one! There's something about the way "Stuck in Love" captures the messy, beautiful struggle of finding one's place in life that really resonates with me. The way it tackles themes of love, loss, and self-discovery in a way that's both authentic and hopeful is just masterful. 🎥 I think what I love most about this film is its refusal to offer easy answers or tidy resolutions - it's all about embracing the uncertainty and imperfection of life. 💔 And let's be real, who hasn't been there? 😊

I gotta say, I'm loving the way this indie rom-com, Stuck in Love, captures life's ups and downs 🙌. The way it navigates love, loss, and self-discovery is so relatable, especially for those of us who've been stuck in our own ways (pun intended 😊). The film's focus on growth and taking action really resonates with me - we all need that reminder to live life instead of just going through the motions. What I love about this movie is its imperfect yet beautiful portrayal of people trying, and how it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside ❤️. Watching it every year is definitely a tradition I can get behind! 🎥
