Queens drag racing turns violent with couple assaulted on their lawn, car set on fire

Violence Erupts in Queens Drag Racing Meetup, Leaving Couple Assaulted and Car Ablaze

A chaotic drag racing meetup in a quiet Queens neighborhood turned violent when a couple was attacked on their lawn and an empty car was set ablaze. The incident unfolded near 141st Street and 11th Avenue in Malba, where dozens of drivers descended upon the block around midnight Saturday.

Witnesses described the scene as "chaotic" with participants igniting fireworks and breaking glass bottles. Authorities said some occupants eventually set a Ford Fusion sedan on fire in the middle of the street, triggering an FDNY response to put out the flames.

The couple, Melissa and Blake Ferrer, 50, said they were attacked when they stepped outside their home to confront the raucous crowd on their lawn. Social media videos posted by local Councilmember Vickie Paladino show the couple being repeatedly kicked and punched until Blake fell to the ground. Two assailants were seen swinging large black flags, while Blake used a baseball bat to defend himself.

Police responded slowly to multiple 911 calls, with residents claiming it took them "too long" to arrive at the scene. A patrol supervisor for the precinct arrived around 12:50 a.m., about 10 minutes after the call was upgraded to a higher-priority job.

Despite police increasing patrols in the area to prevent similar incidents, no arrests have been announced. The NYPD said they are still investigating the incident and that Blake Ferrer sustained several broken ribs and injuries to his shoulder, nose, cheek, and throat.

The couple expressed frustration with the city's response, saying it was unacceptable that residents were initially told the NYPD's quality-of-life team would handle the situation. "These violent street takeovers should be met with maximum force by the police department," Councilmember Paladino said.

Drag racing has long been a quality-of-life issue across the city, but this incident marked an exception to the usual pattern of short-lived gatherings in the area.

OMG u guys I'm like totally shook right now ๐Ÿคฏ I just saw that crazy drag racing meetup went down in Queens and it's like whoa the violence was REAL!!! I mean I know drag racing can be a thing but I never thought it could turn violent like this ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. The couple got assaulted on their lawn and someone even set their car on fire?!?! That's just not right fam ๐Ÿ’”. And to make matters worse, police took forever to arrive at the scene ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. Like I get that they gotta prioritize but come on! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. Anyway, Councilmember Paladino is speaking out and saying it's unacceptable that residents were told the NYPD would handle it when they should've taken a more aggressive stance ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ. And can we talk about how drag racing has gone from being a casual thing to a real safety concern ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ? I'm just hoping Blake and Melissa are okay after that ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ’•.

I'm shocked that some people still think it's cool to drag race and set fires on the side of the road ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Like, what's next? Oh wait, I forgot, we already have that problem in other parts of the city... anyway, can't believe the NYPD took so long to show up ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. I mean, 10 minutes is basically an eternity when you're trying to protect yourself from a bunch of angry drag racers ๐Ÿ˜’. And poor Melissa and Blake Ferrer, hope they get the help they need ASAP ๐Ÿ’”. Maybe the city should just put some "no racing" signs up around here ๐Ÿ“ฃ... like that's gonna stop people who are clearly looking for trouble ๐Ÿ˜.

omg, can u believe this?! ๐Ÿคฏ they literally set a car on fire and beat up a couple just because some people wanted to have a stupid drag racing meetup ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ newsflash: it's not cool to be reckless and violent, especially when there are innocent ppl around. the cops took forever to show up too, that's super frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ก i mean, what's next? ppl gonna start rioting in our neighborhoods?! ๐Ÿค• anyway, hope those two get better soon and maybe this incident will make people think twice before hosting these kinds of events again ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ฅ Ugh, I'm so done with these drag racing meetups turning into all-out brawls ๐Ÿคฏ! Like, can't people just enjoy their cars without causing a scene? ๐Ÿ™„ Anyway, I'm super worried about that couple, Melissa and Blake Ferrer ๐Ÿค• - those injuries sound brutal ๐Ÿคฎ. And what's up with the NYPD responding so slowly to 911 calls? ๐Ÿšจ It takes like 10 minutes for a patrol supervisor to show up? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Not exactly the kind of "maximum force" Councilmember Paladino was talking about, huh? ๐Ÿ’ช

I drew this quick diagram to represent the chaos:
```
+-----------------------+
Drag Racing
Meetup Gone Wrong
๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ฅ
Anyway, I hope the Ferrers get the help they need and that the police do something to prevent these incidents from happening again ๐Ÿ˜Š.
Ugh this is so messed up! ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, can't people just chill? These drag racing meetups are always causing problems and now someone gets hurt ๐Ÿ˜”. The fact that it took cops 10 minutes to show up is just ridiculous - shouldn't they have more resources or something? ๐Ÿ’จ
And Councilmember Paladino is totally right though, the police should be taking a firmer stance on these things. I mean, it's not like they're just having a harmless party ๐ŸŽ‰. Drag racing can get out of hand and put people at risk.
I'm so glad Blake was able to defend himself with that baseball bat, but he shouldn't have to in the first place ๐Ÿ’ช. And poor Melissa, getting kicked and punched on their own lawn... ๐Ÿ˜ท just awful.
The police should really be looking into why these meetups keep happening and how they can prevent them from escalating like this ๐Ÿค”. This is exactly what those quality-of-life patrols are for! ๐Ÿ‘ฎ
OMG that's so crazy ๐Ÿคฏ! Like what is wrong with these people?! They just went from having a normal block party to full-on assault mode ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I mean I get it, drag racing can be loud and rowdy but attacking a couple on their own lawn? That's just not cool ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. And the police taking so long to show up? Unbelievable ๐Ÿšจ. I'm all for keeping the streets safe, but come on! This is like something out of a bad movie ๐Ÿ˜ณ. The fact that people are still doing this and getting away with it is just not right ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. We need to see some serious consequences from the city for these reckless drivers and their families ๐Ÿ‘Š
Wow ๐Ÿคฏ This is just insane! A whole block taken over by drag racers and it turns violent? The fact that the cops took so long to show up is absolutely unacceptable. I mean, what's the deal with quality-of-life teams not being able to handle this kind of situation? And now Blake Ferrer is lucky to be alive... broken ribs and all ๐Ÿค•. It just goes to show you how out of control things can get when there's no proper authority.
this is so crazy ๐Ÿคฏ what is wrong with these people? drag racing can be fun and all, but violence is never the answer. i feel bad for that couple, melissa and blake ferrer, they were just trying to defend themselves on their own lawn and now they're dealing with serious injuries โš•๏ธ and a burning car ๐Ÿš—. and the police response was super slow, it's unacceptable that it took them 10 minutes to get there. the NYPD needs to step up their game and make sure these street takeovers are handled properly ๐Ÿ’ช. it's not just about quality of life, it's about public safety too ๐Ÿ™. i'm just glad no one was seriously hurt... yet ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
OMG, like what's going on in Queens right now?! ๐Ÿคฏ A drag racing meetup that turns into a full-blown brawl? I'm still trying to process how someone gets attacked and set their car on fire just because they stepped outside to chill on their own lawn! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Like, who does that?!
I feel so bad for Melissa and Blake Ferrer - they were just minding their own biz when suddenly they're in the middle of a violent mob. And can you even believe it took police 10 whole minutes to show up? That's like, basic training, fam! ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ
It's crazy that Councilmember Paladino is all like "these street takeovers should be met with maximum force" - I mean, I get where she's coming from, but at the same time, let's not overreact and start taking drastic measures every single time there's a minor incident. We need to find a balance between letting people have fun and keeping everyone safe.
Anyway, hoping the Ferrer couple recovers from their injuries ASAP! ๐Ÿ’•
๐Ÿ˜’ I'm telling ya, this whole drag racing thing is more than just a street takeover ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ. There's some big money changing hands here. Just look at how quickly that police response was delayed โฐ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. Like, what's the NYPD hiding? This whole situation reeks of a setup ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘€. And those black flags, yeah... that's not just for show ๐Ÿ˜ˆ. I'm sure it's connected to something deeper. It's all about control and who's really behind this drag racing craze ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿ’ธ. Mark my words, there's more to this story than meets the eye ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ”.
