Former Met CEO named new leader of Philadelphia Art Museum

Philadelphia Art Museum Appoints Veteran Leader Amid Controversy Surrounding Former CEO's Departure

The Philadelphia Art Museum has named Daniel Weiss as its new director and CEO, following the sudden dismissal of Sasha Suda in November. According to officials, Weiss will take office on December 1 and is expected to stay in the role until at least 2028.

Weiss brings significant experience to the table, having previously served as president and CEO of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York from 2015 to 2023. During his tenure, he navigated the museum through the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing a new facilities master plan and helping to stabilize the institution's finances.

When Weiss returned to the Philadelphia area last year, he took on various roles at Johns Hopkins University, including as a professor of humanities and adviser. He also held senior positions at Lafayette College and Haverford College before joining the Met.

The sudden departure of Suda has sparked controversy, with officials stating that she was let go due to "cause." However, in a shocking move, Suda has filed a lawsuit claiming that there was a corrupt and unethical faction within the museum creating a toxic environment. The final version of the rebranded logo change was also met with resistance from the board of trustees.

As Weiss takes on this new role, he will be responsible for overseeing curation, operations, fundraising, programming, and strategic planning at the Philadelphia Art Museum. His appointment comes as the institution continues to navigate its post-rebranding identity.

just hope daniel weiss can turn things around for that museum ๐Ÿคž, all these changes and controversy surrounding sasha suda's departure kinda made me think they were getting a bit too fancy with their rebranding logo change, i mean who needs that many colours anyway? ๐ŸŽจ still, gotta respect Weiss bringing in some big name experience from the met, fingers crossed he can bring some stability to the museum ๐Ÿ‘.

idk what's going on with that art museum tho ๐Ÿค”... they just go through CEOs like they're nothing ๐Ÿšฎ. sasha suda was let go for "cause" but now she's suing them? sounds fishy ๐ŸŽฃ. and the new guy dan weiss has a solid track record, no doubt about that ๐Ÿ’ผ, but does he know what's going on with that museum's drama? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ at least he got to come from some big-name orgs like met and Hopkins... hopefully he can bring some stability and calmness back to philly ๐ŸŒž

OMG, I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE WHAT DANIEL WEISS WILL BRING TO THE PHILADELPHIA ART MUSEUM!!! HE'S GOT SOME SERIOUS EXPERIENCE UNDER HIS BELT, AND IT'S GOING TO BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW HE HANDLES THE CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING SASHA SUDA'S DEPARTURE. I MEAN, WHO WANTS TO TAKE ON A TOXIC ENVIRONMENT?! ๐Ÿคฏ BUT SERIOUSLY, WE NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN GET THINGS DONE AND HELP THE MUSEUM RECOVER FROM THIS MASSIVE SCANDAL. I GUESS ONLY TIME WILL TELL IF WEISS IS UP TO THE TASK! ๐Ÿ‘€

so like they just replaced the ceo like 2 months ago with someone who's been in the game for ages... daniel weiss is super accomplished but what about sasha suda? ๐Ÿค” her story sounds crazy tho... some people might be worried that there's like a toxic faction at play which would be really concerning... can't help but wonder if we'll see any changes or if it's just business as usual ๐Ÿค‘

idk how they're gonna sort out that whole Suda thing ๐Ÿค”... seems like there's a lot of drama going on behind the scenes at the Philly art museum. I mean, Weiss is a big shot, having worked at Met and all, so he'll probably bring some much-needed stability to the institution ๐Ÿ˜Š. but still gotta wonder what really went down with Suda's departure ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ... lawsuit or not, it sounds like there were definitely some issues with the rebranding process ๐Ÿ‘€. fingers crossed Weiss can help get the museum back on track and make some amazing art happen ๐ŸŽจ

omg this is so exciting!! ๐Ÿคฉ i'm literally hyped that Daniel Weiss is taking over as director & CEO of the philly art museum! ๐Ÿ’ฅ he's got such amazing experience under his belt, especially navigating thru the pandemic ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ“š and helping the met stabilize their finances ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ’ช can't wait to see what changes he brings to the philly art museum ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ good luck & welcome aboard daniel!!! ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŽจ just heard about Daniel Weiss being appointed director of Philly art museum ๐Ÿ™Œ! seems like they needed someone with his experience ๐Ÿ’ช from Met museum in NYC ๐Ÿ‘€ he's got a solid track record of leading through tough times ๐Ÿค especially during covid ๐Ÿ“‰ but what about sasha suda tho? ๐Ÿ˜• sounds like there was drama behind her departure ๐Ÿ‘ป hope the new ceo can bring stability and calm to the museum ๐Ÿ’†โ€โ™€๏ธ maybe now they'll get that logo change just right ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘€

just heard about the new CEO of Philly art museum ๐Ÿคฏ I'm not sure what's more shocking than the logo change controversy ๐Ÿ˜’, but I guess that's water under the bridge now. Daniel Weiss seems like a solid choice though ๐Ÿ‘ he's got some serious experience under his belt from his time at the Met ๐Ÿ“š. Hopefully he can bring some stability to the museum after Suda's departure ๐Ÿ™. And on a lighter note, if anyone needs me, I'll be over here sipping hot chocolate and admiring the steps of the Philly art museum โค๏ธ #ArtLover #PhillyArtMuseum #NewCEO

You know how it is when you're trying to move forward from a messy situation? It's like, there's still some stuff on the floor that needs to get swept up before you can start fresh ๐Ÿงน๐Ÿ’ช. That's kinda what's going on with this art museum. They just had one of their leaders let go due to controversy, but now they're moving forward with a new person who's got experience under his belt. It's like they're saying, "Okay, we messed up, but we're gonna learn from it and try again." The question is, can you really change the past and start anew? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ซ

just wondering if daniel weiss really solved all the financial issues under sasha suda's watch... seems like he's got a big task ahead of him ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ฌ

OMG, yay!! ๐ŸŽ‰ Daniel Weiss is going to be an amazing director & CEO of the Philly Art Museum!!! ๐Ÿ˜ I'm so hyped for him to bring his Met experience & expertise to our museum! ๐Ÿ’ช The fact that he's taking over at a time when we're still figuring out our new logo is kinda daunting, but I trust him to get it right ๐Ÿ™ He seems super dedicated to the arts & education, which aligns with my values so much!! โค๏ธ Fingers crossed for a smooth transition & an incredible future ahead! ๐ŸŒŸ

So another bigwig gets a comfy chair at the Philly museum... wonder what kinda "toxic environment" is gonna happen under Weiss's watchful eye ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŽจ. Suda getting sued for some shady stuff, huh? Guess that's one way to get out of a forced exit ๐Ÿ’ธ. Weiss has got some serious baggage from his Met gig, too - COVID-19, finance woes... seems like he's got experience with crisis management ๐Ÿ“ˆ. Still, hope he can whip the Philly museum back into shape without alienating everyone... or at least not making things worse ๐Ÿ˜….

man, gotta wonder what kinda toxic environment was going on at that museum lol ๐Ÿ˜‚...i mean, i'm all for change and progress but a corrupt faction? that's just wild ๐Ÿคฏ...anyway, Daniel Weiss seems like a solid choice tho, been around the block a few times, right? ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ผ guess we'll have to see how he shakes things up in Philly ๐ŸŒƒ๐ŸŽจ.

Just got wind of this new dude comin' in to run Philly Art Museum ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, he's got some serious cred from his time at Met in NYC - that place was gettin' slammed during COVID and he managed to keep it afloat? Impressive ๐Ÿ˜Š. But let's be real, the drama that went down with Suda's departure is still super weird ๐Ÿค”. Like, who files a lawsuit for leavin' a job? ๐Ÿ™„ And this new logo change... was it really worth all the hooey? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Guess only time'll tell if Weiss can bring some much-needed stability to that museum ๐Ÿ˜.

omg can you believe what's happening at the philadelphia art museum? they just got rid of their ceo sasha suda without even giving her a chance to explain whats going on... now this new guy dan weiss is coming in and hes got all this experience from working at the met but i'm not sure if he can repair the damage that's been done. i mean, its already causing a stir with some of the board members not liking the logo change... lets see how well weiss can navigate this drama and bring some stability to the museum ๐Ÿค”๐ŸŽจ

๐ŸŽจ I'm actually kinda stoked that Daniel Weiss is joining the Philly Art Museum crew! He's got some serious experience under his belt, having run one of the world's most iconic museums in NYC ๐Ÿ—ฝ๏ธ. I mean, navigating a pandemic and getting finances stable? That's some impressive stuff ๐Ÿ’ธ. And the fact that he's taking on a new role here means fresh eyes and new ideas for the museum ๐Ÿค”. Of course, there's been some drama with Suda's departure, but Weiss seems like a pro who'll get the job done ๐Ÿ˜Š. Plus, it's always exciting to see someone new come in and shake things up! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

I wonder what's really going on with that logo change thingy ๐Ÿค”... I mean, it's not like they just decided to slap a new design on something without anyone even asking if people would like it ๐Ÿ˜‚. And now Sasha Suda is all upset about some alleged corrupt faction and toxic environment ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ... does she really think Weiss will be able to get to the bottom of that? I hope he's got some strong coffee in him, 'cause that sounds like a real headache โ˜•๏ธ. On the bright side, someone with Weiss' experience should be able to help stabilize things and get the museum back on track ๐Ÿ’ช. But what about all those people who were resistant to the logo change? Are they gonna have a say in how things go from now on? ๐Ÿค”

I mean, I'm not sure about this Daniel Weiss guy taking over... it feels like every big museum has a new face now ๐Ÿค”. Reminds me of when they got rid of that old director at the Met in NYC and brought in a whole new crew. I was thinking, what's wrong with stability? You know, back in my day, museums had directors for decades, not months on end. Anyway, Weiss seems like a solid choice, but I'm still hoping Suda gets to the bottom of that shady business ๐Ÿค‘

just hope dan weiss can bring some stability to that place ๐Ÿคž, i mean sasha suda's departure was weird and now they're gonna try to move on from that drama ๐Ÿšซ, but it's crazy how much controversy surrounded that rebranding logo change... like, who makes decisions like that? ๐Ÿค” the philly art museum is an iconic spot and all, but this whole thing just feels like a big mess ๐ŸŒช๏ธ
