Statute of limitations could limit DOJ from further prosecuting James Comey

Federal Judge Dismisses Charges Against James Comey, Limiting DOJ's Ability to Prosecute Him Further

A federal judge has dismissed the criminal charges against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The move could limit the US Department of Justice's (DOJ) ability to further prosecute them.

Comey was charged with lying under oath during a Senate hearing in 2017, which led to a lengthy investigation by the FBI. However, the charges were dismissed on Wednesday due to concerns about the statute of limitations, which restricts when criminal cases can be brought to trial.

The DOJ had argued that Comey could not be prosecuted for his actions as an officer of the US government because they occurred while he was in office. The judge agreed, ruling that Comey's immunity as a former federal official prevents him from being charged with lying under oath.

This decision may limit the DOJ's ability to further prosecute Comey and Letitia James, who were also charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly interfering with an FBI investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

😒 I gotta say, this whole thing just feels kinda weird... like we're just getting a bunch of old folks off scot-free. I mean, Comey was basically accused of lying about nothing and still gets to walk away? 🙄 It's not like he didn't have plenty of time to think about what he said during that hearing... or that it wouldn't hurt anyone if he just told the truth for once 😂. And now Letitia James is off the hook too? What's next, are we gonna let everyone who's ever testified before Congress get a free pass? 🤷‍♀️

OMG u guys! 😱 So theres this judge who dissed the charges against james comey 🤯 like whats goin on?! so he was accused of lyin under oath but the judge said he cant be prosecuted cuz hes a former gov official now 👊 i mean i get it, didnt wanna let him slide into oblivion or anythin 😂 but now its all up in the air hows this gonna affect the DOJ's case against letticia james tho? 🤔 guess were stuck watin now

🤔 "The truth is rarely pure and never simple." I think this case has shown us how complex and nuanced the law can be, especially when it comes to issues of immunity and accountability. The fact that a federal judge was able to rule on Comey's case without having him present in court highlights just how much power our legal system gives to judges to interpret the law.

This decision could have big implications for future investigations into government officials' actions, but at the same time, it raises questions about whether justice is truly being served. "The ultimate test of a man's character is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." 🤷‍♂️

can you believe this? some good news for a change! so james comey is finally off the hook and that's awesome 🙌, i mean think about it if he gets charged and convicted of lying under oath, it could set a bad precedent for all public officials, especially during investigations. but thankfully the judge saw things differently and ruled that comey's immunity as a former federal official prevents him from being charged. plus this clears up some more uncertainty for letitia james too 🤞. anyway, i guess you can say justice has been served in this case, even if it was just a technicality 😊.

I'm kinda surprised about this whole thing 🤔. So, it seems like the gov't is giving James Comey a free pass on lying under oath? Like, I get it, we've all been there 😂, but come on! The DOJ was like, "Hey, he's not going to face any consequences" and the judge was all, "Yup, that's cool." But what about the people who were affected by his actions? Doesn't justice need to be served? 🤷‍♂️ It's also kinda weird that Letitia James is in this too. Wasn't she supposed to be on the same side as Comey? Anyway, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out 💁‍♀️

🤔 This is a big deal for transparency, you know? A judge has basically said that Comey can't be bullied into talking about what he did as head of the FBI because of a technicality with the law 🚫. I mean, imagine if they could just slap immunity on someone and say "you're off the hook" without even having to investigate? It's like a bad episode of Law & Order 📺.

I'm not surprised it happened though - we've seen this kind of thing play out before with other high-profile figures. And let's be real, the DOJ has been trying to catch Comey in a lie for years 🕵️‍♂️. But what really gets me is that Letitia James got charged too, and now she might get off scot-free ⚖️.

Here's a rough diagram of how this all works:
```
+---------------+
| DOJ charges |
| Comey and |
| Letitia James |
+---------------+
|
|
v
+---------------+
| Judge rules |
| on statute |
| of limitations |
+---------------+
v
```
It's like, finally some justice? 🤞

omg u guys can't even believe dis 🤯 so the feds just dismissed all charges against james comey and letitia james?? like what's next?! i'm literally shook. i was hoping to see some justice served, but not now. it's like they're saying 'oh yeah, you lied under oath during a senate hearing? no worries, here's your free pass'. meanwhile, comey is still gettin' all the attention he wants on his podcast 🎙️ and james is basically untouchable as ny AG... it's wild how the system works sometimes 👀
