Man charged with slashing 2 others on Queens subway platform

A 28-year-old man, identified as Tyquan Manassa, has been slapped with four counts of assault after allegedly slashing two men on a Queens subway platform. The violent incidents occurred at the Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens station during the afternoon commute.

According to authorities, Manassa, who resides in a homeless shelter on Randall's Island, made the attack without provocation, leaving both victims with serious slash injuries to their faces. They were taken to hospital and are listed as being in stable condition.

In a bizarre twist, Manassa was arrested earlier this week for an unrelated incident involving assault and criminal mischief, which occurred in the 25th Precinct that covers East Harlem and Randall's Island.

Police officers took Manassa into custody after they responded to the unrelated incident. His lawyer is not yet available for comment on the subway slashing charges.

The NYPD reported a decline in overall transit crime citywide, with a near 5% decrease compared to last year. However, violent assaults on subways and buses have seen an increase, with over 500 felony assaults reported through November 16th.

For now, Manassa is facing four counts of assault related to the subway slashing incident, which remains under investigation.
