A man in Arkansas rode out a powerful tornado inside his pest control van, narrowly escaping harm. According to Cody Coombes, who was driving home from work when the storm struck, he "just happened to be driving by" as the EF-3 tornado tore through Pulaski and Lonoke counties.
The National Weather Service described the tornado's peak winds as 165 mph, with one fatality reported in North Little Rock and four more in Wynne. Coombes said his van provided some protection, describing it as "the ultimate shelter" from the storm.
The video footage shows Coombes' harrowing experience as he navigates his van through the intense storm. The footage was captured by CNN's weather team, who reported on the devastating impact of the tornado in Arkansas.
According to Coombes, the tornado appeared out of nowhere and "sucked everything into it." He said that he was able to ride out the storm safely thanks to the protection of his van, but acknowledged that others were not as fortunate.
