‘Stranger Things’ Season 5, Volume 1 Rotten Tomatoes Reviews: Does It Go To 11?

The wait is over for fans of Stranger Things, but are the new episodes up to par? The first four episodes of Season 5 have been released, and critics are weighing in with their reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

While some reviewers have praised the show's ability to deliver classic '80s adventure fare without losing its edge, others have noted that it feels like a rehashing of familiar storylines. Vicky Jessop from The London Evening Standard writes, "It's classic '80s adventure fare, in the best way: kids outsmarting adults, lashings of humour and a surprising amount of heart." However, she also cautions that the season seesaws between thrilling and annoying, which may not sit well with all viewers.

On the other hand, Bob Strauss from The Wrap praises the show's simplicity, saying it allows rich behavioral, cultural and mythically unnerving elements to shine without slowing things down. This sentiment is echoed by Kelly Lawler from USA Today, who notes that the season feels like the Stranger we've come to know and love over nearly a decade.

However, not all critics are convinced. Angie Han from The Hollywood Reporter gives the first part of Season 5 a "rotten" score, citing the hit to the characters as the biggest problem. She argues that the show's focus on big stakes comes at the expense of smaller details needed for emotional impact.

Alison Herman from Variety also expresses disappointment with the season, writing, "By declining to enrich its characters as they age, Stranger Things traps itself in arrested development." Chase Hutchinson from The Seattle Times agrees, saying that the show feels written for an audience that's only half paying attention and ultimately punishes those who are following each sentence.

Overall, it seems that while some critics have praised Season 5, Volume 1, others have noted its imperfections. Whether these issues will be addressed in future episodes remains to be seen. With two more volumes of the season to come, fans will have to wait and see if Stranger Things is able to recapture its magic.

As for the Rotten Tomatoes critics' score, it stands at 85%, with the Critics Consensus reading, "Stranger Things plays its cards just right in Season 5, solidifying its pop culture classic status with genuinely captivating genre fare." While not all reviews are glowing, this score suggests that the show is still on a roll.

Ultimately, whether or not Stranger Things is able to go to 11 (a reference to its iconic theme music) will depend on how well it addresses its flaws and continues to deliver on its promise of thrilling adventure and heart. One thing's for sure: fans are eager to see what's in store for the final season.

omg i'm so confused about the new seasons of stranger things lol some ppl love it and others hate it idk if its still got that 80s vibe i mean vicky jessop seems to think so but chase hutchinson says its like theyre not even trying anymore 🤔 and angie han is literally crying over the character development 🙈 its def gonna be a wait and see situation for me 👀

omg i'm so stoked that stranger things is back 🤩 but tbh some ppl r saying it feels like a rehash of old storylines lol what do u guys think tho? is the show still delivering on its promise or did they kinda phoned it in this season? im personally loving the nostalgia vibes and the way it's handling the characters' growth (or lack thereof) 🤔

I'm still reeling from the first 4 eps of Season 5 🤯. Some of the reviews I read seemed super positive, like they were riding a nostalgia wave 💥, while others felt kinda meh. Angie Han's review was pretty scathing about how the show prioritizes big stakes over character development 🤕.

I'm not sure what to make of it all, tbh 😐. Part of me is still loving every minute of this '80s adventure thing 🎸, but another part is like, "wait, didn't we get this last season? 🙄". I guess only time will tell if the show can course-correct and deliver on its promise.

At 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, it's clear that not everyone is feeling the same way 😐. But hey, Stranger Things fans are known for their dedication - they'll keep watching no matter what! 💪

I'm not entirely sold on Season 5 yet 🤔. I mean, 85% on Rotten Tomatoes is a pretty big score, but some of these reviews are giving me pause 🚨. Vicky Jessop's comment about it feeling like a rehashing of familiar storylines kinda hit home for me, you know? And Angie Han's "rotten" score is fair play - I've noticed that the character development has been pretty one-note lately 📉. Plus, Chase Hutchinson's criticism about the show feeling written for an audience that's only half paying attention feels spot on 👀. That being said, I do love how they're playing up the 80s nostalgia vibes 🎸. Maybe it'll all come together in the next two volumes? Fingers crossed!

🤔 I'm not sure if I'd say the new episodes are exactly up to par, but they're definitely nostalgic throwbacks to the good ol' '80s! 📺 The show still knows how to deliver some serious laughs and thrills, especially in those classic scenes with the kids outsmarting adults. But at the same time, it feels like we've seen some of these storylines before... don't get me wrong, I love a good '80s adventure every now and then! 😊 The real test will be whether they can balance out the highs and lows over the next two volumes – fingers crossed for a finale that'll really go to 11 (just like the theme song)! 🎸

omg have u seen the new seasons of stranger things? i mean, its still got that 80s vibe goin on but some ppl r sayin its a bit predictable 😐 anyway, i think the simplicity of the show is actually kinda genius it lets the weirdness and adventure take center stage 🤪 and i love how they're keepin it real with the characters too 👀 like, the older kids are still just as awkward and cool as ever 🙌 but yeah, some critics r sayin its got some major flaws 🚨 so we'll jus have to wait and see if season 5 can recapture its magic 🔮 [https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/stranger-things/critics\_score]

I MEAN, COME ON, GUYS! THE FIRST FOUR EPISODES OF SEASON 5 ARE OUT AND PEOPLE ARE ALREADY DIVIDED ON WHETHER THEY'RE GOOD ENOUGH! I THINK IT'S PRETTY COOL THAT THEY'RE STILL DELIVERING THAT CLASSIC '80s ADVENTURE FARE WE LOVE, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, SOME OF THE STORYLINE FEELS LIKE WE'VE SEEN IT BEFORE. BUT LET'S BE REAL, IT'S STRANGER THINGS, SO IT'S ALWAYS GOING TO BE A RISK! 🤯😎

🤔 I'm a bit meh about Season 5, Volume 1 of Stranger Things 📺. Don't get me wrong, it's still super fun and nostalgic, but some parts feel like they're rehashing old storylines. I mean, we've all been there with our favorite childhood shows - do we really need to revisit the "kids outsmart adults" trope? 😂 On the other hand, the new episodes are still getting that Stranger Things magic 💫, so fingers crossed that the show can address its flaws and deliver on more thrilling adventures and heartwarming moments. 🙏 Two more volumes to go, let's see how it all shakes out! 🌪️

I'm loving this new season so far! 😍 I mean, who doesn't love a good '80s adventure? The way they're still delivering on that classic vibe is everything 🤩. And can we talk about how nostalgic it's making me? 🙌 I'm totally here for the kids outsmarting adults and the humor - it's just so fun! 😄 But, at the same time, I think some of the critics are right to say it's a bit of a rehash... maybe they need to shake things up a bit more? 🤔 Still can't wait to see what's next! 💥

I'm not even gonna watch those 4 episodes yet lol I mean, I love Stranger Things but come on, some reviews are trash 🤣 I don't get why people are saying it feels like a rehash of old storylines... it's still got that same nostalgic '80s vibe and the kids are still so adorbs 😂. But at the same time, I can see what Angie Han is saying about the characters feeling like they're in arrested development 🤔. Maybe they need to shake things up a bit in Season 5? Idk, I'm still hyped for it though 💖

OMG, you know what they say "the show must go on"... but like, is it still a show or just a rehashing of old stuff? I mean, 85% on Rotten Tomatoes is pretty cool, but some reviewers are hating on it and that's, like, totally fair too 😒. I'm curious to see how they fix those flaws in the next two volumes... if it recaptures its magic, that would be lit! 🎉

I'm kinda mixed about this new season of Stranger Things 🤔. On one hand, I loved how they still managed to bring that classic '80s vibe without feeling like a rehash. The humor and heart were back, and it was great to see the kids causing some chaos for the adults 😂. But at the same time, I felt like some of the storylines were kinda predictable and didn't feel as tight as previous seasons 🤷‍♂️.

I also felt bad for some of the characters - like, what's up with Mike and Eleven's love life? It just doesn't feel right 😐. And I'm not sure if the writers are trying to milk this show for all it's worth by dragging out the final season into 2 more volumes 🤯.

Still, I trust the creators and I know they're gonna try their best to deliver on some epic adventures and emotional moments 💥. If they can address those flaws and get back to what made the show so great in the first place, then we'll be golden 🔥. Can't wait to see how it all plays out! 👀

I'm so glad they finally dropped Season 5, but I gotta say, some episodes feel a bit like they're stuck in an '80s time loop 🔄. The kids still rockin' those retro outfits and the nostalgia is real, but at times it feels like we're seeing the same old storylines repeated 🤦‍♀️. Don't get me wrong, I love Eleven and the gang as much as the next person, but come on, can't they mix it up a bit? 😂 Still, the show's still got that special magic ✨ and I'm excited to see how it all comes together for the final season 🎉.

I'm so over the hype around Stranger Things 🤦‍♂️, like, I get it, 80s vibes are cool and all, but can't they just come up with something fresh? The whole "kids outsmarting adults" thing is been done a million times before. And don't even get me started on the nostalgia factor... if you're gonna rely on that to carry the show, you're not really pushing the boundaries of storytelling. I mean, I loved Season 4 but this season just feels like more of the same. Maybe they should take some risks and try something new? 😐

omg i was so late to this thread lol just saw the first ep and i gotta say im kinda split about it 🤔 the 80s vibes are still on point but like yeah some storylines feel super familiar idk if its gonna get better or worse from here 👀 gotta keep watching for sure 💭

🤔 I'm kinda miffed that Season 5 is already feeling like a rehash of familiar storylines 📺. Don't get me wrong, it's still got some awesome '80s vibes and those kids are always getting into some wild stuff 😂. But if the show's just gonna rely on what we've seen before without putting in some real effort to shake things up, then I'm not sure how much longer I'll be hooked 📊. The whole "arrested development" thing really gets me 🙄. Can't they just give their characters a chance to grow up with the rest of us? 🤗 Anyway, I'm still gonna keep watching and see if the show manages to get its act together 👍.

idk why ppl are makin a big deal outta this, season 5 is prob one of the weakest yet 🤷‍♂️ i mean, its just more of the same old formulaic storyline we've seen before. and dont even get me started on how it's gonna be resolved in the final season... ill bet its all gonna tie up with a big bow and everythinlll works out in the end 😴 i'm low-key hyped to see what they come up with tho, maybe they'll finally make some changes and take the show in a new direction 🤔

🤔 The show is still good, I guess... I mean, it feels like they're reusing some old storylines and it's not as surprising or new as it used to be 📺. Some parts are really cool and nostalgic, but others feel kinda cheesy and over-the-top 😳. The writing can be a bit wonky too, especially when it comes to character development... it's like they're neglecting the people you care about and only focusing on the big plot stuff 🤷‍♀️. Still, I'm kinda curious to see how it all turns out in future episodes 📺💀

🤔 I'm loving the nostalgia vibes with Season 5, but some critics have raised valid points about the show feeling a bit formulaic 📺. The '80s adventure fare is definitely back and better than ever 💪, but it's also possible that we've seen this before 😴. What really worries me is how the characters are aging - or rather, not aging as much as they should be 🤷‍♀️. I mean, we get it, Eleven's still got some serious powers 🔮, but it'd be awesome to see her and the gang tackle more complex issues in the future 💡. Still, I'm excited to see where the rest of Season 5 takes us...and hopefully, the flaws are addressed 🤞! 👀
