Doha Film Institute Partners with Prestigious French Institutions to Launch Comprehensive Training Pipeline
The Doha Film Institute (DFI) has just unveiled an ambitious new training initiative in partnership with France's renowned film school, La Fémis, and Gobelins Paris, the country's leading animation school. The collaborative effort aims to create a pipeline of skilled creatives across the Arab world by providing industry-ready vocational training programs.
Backed by the Institut Français du Qatar and Qatar Museums, these new programs are part of DFI's long-term strategy to expand access to high-quality education. With demand for skilled crew, animators, and content creators surging in the Gulf region, particularly in Qatar, this initiative is well-timed. The launch also underscores the country's growing reputation as a creative hub, with significant investments in production capacity and infrastructure.
The new programs are designed to provide participants with hands-on experience, practical skills, and industry-facing knowledge. La Fémis will offer a four-month Cinematography Certificate Program, focusing on the technical responsibilities of a director of photography. The program will deliver both theoretical and practical training through online and in-person sessions. In contrast, Gobelins Paris is leading an Animation Certificate Program, spanning nine months with three modules covering animation fundamentals, character performance, and visual storytelling.
The initiative marks DFI's commitment to creating a sustainable creative ecosystem by pairing local talent development with global partnerships. The institute has a proven track record of leveraging international collaborations across its labs, fellowships, and festival initiatives over the past 15 years.
By embedding internationally recognized schools within Qatar's training landscape, DFI is working to create pathways from introductory courses to specialized professional training, all while providing access without requiring participants to leave the region. The focus here is on equipping young creatives with skills, creativity, and hands-on experience to bridge gaps between education and industry networks.
For Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, CEO of DFI, vocational training represents the future of learning in a rapidly changing world. "Our partnerships with La Fémis and Gobelins Paris add to our year-round workshops and mentoring sessions that have helped build a thriving creative ecosystem in Qatar and across the region."
