Actor and Israel supporter Guy Pearce has been forced to take a step back from social media after sharing false and misleading information about Israel online.
The actor took to X to announce his temporary hiatus, citing the need to prevent further hurt or damage to others in light of a recent backlash for previously shared content. In an earlier apology to Jewish News, he admitted that some of the articles and statements he had re-shared contained misinformation and falsehoods.
Pearce's mistake included sharing material from far-right commentator Nick Fuentes, as well as claims that Israel was involved in 9/11 terrorist attacks and that prominent Las Vegas casino owners were Jewish.
The actor expressed regret for any confusion or distress caused by his actions, stating he would strive to be more diligent in the future to verify information before sharing it online.
In a statement posted on X early Saturday morning, Pearce wrote: "Earlier this week, I issued an apology for sharing misleading and inaccurate posts and commentary on social media... To prevent any further hurt, confusion or damage to others, I will be stepping back from social media for the time being."
The decision comes as a result of backlash against his online support for Palestine.
