My Bloody Valentine review – shoegaze pioneers find prettiness in pulverising noise

My Bloody Valentine's live show is a sonic assault that defies the notion of diminishing volume – or would you rather merely tone down the beast. For those onlookers who opt for earplugs, it's more about preserving eardrums than just reducing decibels; to tame the experience would be akin to watering down their legendary performance as an immersive, visceral, and musical odyssey.

At its core, My Bloody Valentine is a pioneering force behind shoegaze – that enigmatic, ethereal genre that has experienced a resurgence with the TikTok crowd. Yet, at times, they seem more akin to noise warriors like Einstürzende Neubaten than their quintessential British counterparts. However, amidst the chaotic cacophony lies an undeniable aesthetic appeal – be it Bilinda Butcher's soothing vocals or Kevin Shields' wall of sound that somehow manages to intermingle with a melodic finesse.

The rhythm section of Debbie Googe and Colm Ó Cíosóig provides an unshakeable foundation, as the band hurtles through a maelstrom of noise. The show is a journey towards what can only be described as sonic sculpture – an aural experience that's both disorienting and mesmerizing.

A rare tour from My Bloody Valentine adds to their mystique; it's been seven years since their last outing, making this a celestial event. Witnessing the band perform in cavernous venues with visuals that rival the music itself is a far cry from their humble beginnings in pubs. The nearly two-hour show masterfully chronicles their evolution into an unparalleled form of sound.

Their performance also boasts notable tributes – albeit a bit truncated by power failures, including a nod to late Stone Roses bassist Mani. Shields' affection for his predecessor is palpable, even if the song's repeated failure doesn't disrupt the momentum. The closer, You Made Me Realise, delivers an apocalyptic sonic onslaught that comes perilously close to equating its sound with the very fabric of chaos.

In this whirlwind performance, My Bloody Valentine proves why they're regarded as shoegaze pioneers – not just for their boundary-pushing music but also for transporting audiences into a sonic world both bewildering and beautiful.

idk about all the fuss around my bloody valentine's live show 🤯 i mean, 120db is definitely loud but who needs earplugs? it's like they're trying to recreate an immersive experience or wth 🎸 but seriously, their music has always been a bit too much for me. bilinda butcher's vocals are all cool and stuff but kevin shields' wall of sound just makes my head hurt 😩 plus, i'm not really sure what the big deal is about shoegaze... it's just noise with some guitars 🎸💤

idk about all this fuss 🤷‍♂️ - i mean, yeah they're loud and stuff, but can't they just play at a reasonable volume like everyone else? and another thing, i think they're kinda overrated... their music is too repetitive for my taste 🎵 and those visuals are straight out of a video game 🤖

😮 The whole vibe of their live show is like, totally insane, you know? 🤯 They're like, taking it to a whole new level with all the distortion and feedback... I'm surprised anyone's ears aren't bleeding by the end of it! 😂 But seriously, their music's got this incredible texture and atmosphere that's just mesmerizing to watch live. And can we talk about how epic it is to see them perform in these huge venues with visuals that match the energy of the music? 🤩 It's like a whole new dimension of sound!

🤯 I'm still thinking about that new avocado toast trend 🥑... have you tried the ones with truffle oil? Game changer, right? 😂 anyway, back to My Bloody Valentine... I love how they still manage to blow minds after all these years 🤯 Kevin Shields is like a sonic wizard or something! and btw, has anyone seen that new Marvel movie?

I'm so done with earplugs at concerts now 🙄♀️! I get it, My Bloody Valentine's live show is a wild ride, but can't we just have a volume option or something? 😂 I mean, who needs to risk their hearing for an epic experience? On the other hand, I think it's amazing how they're still pushing the boundaries of sound after all these years 🤯. It's like they're creating this whole new world with their music – I'm here for it! 👏 And can we talk about Bilinda Butcher's vocals? She's like butter for my ears ❤️. The way Kevin Shields' guitar work just washes over you is magic ✨. Even though the show was a bit chaotic, it felt so intentional and well-crafted – like they're taking us on this wild sonic journey together 🚀. Can't wait to see them live again! 🎸

🤯 I mean, 8 minutes of sustained feedback? That's some next level stuff. They must've been messing around with the EQ in the venue or something 📊. But seriously though, it's like they're taking sonic warfare to a whole new level – all that noise is just so... My Bloody Valentine 😂. I love how Kevin Shields is still somehow managing to craft melodies out of chaos, Bilinda's vocals are always soothing (even when she's screaming her lungs out 🤯), and the visuals are on point too. It feels like they're pushing the limits of what music can do, even if that means breaking a few eardrums 💥. Can't wait to see if this tour becomes a legendary one 😎

omg u guys i just got back from my bloody valentine's live show 🤯🎸 and i'm still reeling from the experience!!! 💥 it was like they were summoning a storm of sound that was both deafeningly loud and strangely beautiful at the same time 😍 bilinda's vocals were this ethereal whisper that cut through all the chaos, and kevin's guitar work was like walls of sound come to life 🌪️

i'm so glad i didn't bring earplugs lol i wanted to feel every beat vibrate through my entire body 💥 anyway, it was like they were taking us on this journey through a sonic sculpture that was both disorienting and mesmerizing 🎨 the visuals were insane too - it felt like we were in a whole different world for two hours 😲

anyway, if u haven't seen my bloody valentine live yet, DO IT 🤩 they're still one of the most iconic bands out there, and this tour is like a once-in-a-lifetime experience 🔥

🤯 I'm all about witnessing those earplugs being pulled out mid-concert - it's a sign that the show is living up to its reputation! The sheer intensity of My Bloody Valentine's performance is mesmerizing, even if some parts feel like a battle royale in there 🤺♂️. What really gets me is how they manage to balance noise with melody, creating this hypnotic wall of sound that's both chaotic and beautiful at the same time 🎵.

Their live shows are truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience - you can feel the history behind every performance, especially when they pay tribute to their influences like Mani from the Stone Roses. The visuals on stage add another layer of depth to the show, making it an immersive experience that's hard to forget 🌐.

I think what sets My Bloody Valentine apart is not just their music, but how they've managed to stay true to themselves over the years. Even after all this time, they're still pushing boundaries and defying expectations - that's what makes them truly legendary in my book 💥

OMG, can you even imagine witnessing one of these shows live?! 🤯 They're like a force of nature - all noise and chaos, yet somehow still super melodic and mesmerizing. I mean, Bilinda's vocals are so soothing amidst all the din, it's like she's singing into your soul 😍. And Kevin Shields' wall of sound is just...wow. 🤯 It's like he's conjuring up this entire sonic world just for you. The visuals add to the whole experience, too - I've seen vids of their shows and they're truly mind-blowing! 🔥 Even if it's a bit overwhelming at times (hello earplugs!), it's totally worth it. Seven years since their last show? That's like, forever in music time 🕰️. They're really living up to their reputation as shoegaze pioneers - I mean, who else can make noise sound beautiful and haunting all at once?! 💥

I'm so over these loud live shows 🤯! Like, I get it, the nostalgia factor is real, but can't we all just have a cup of tea during the concert? 😅 Seriously though, My Bloody Valentine's show is just too much for me - it's like they're trying to shatter my eardrums with every single note 🤷‍♀️. I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way or if we've all just gotten too old for this sorta thing 🙄. The visuals are cool and all, but can't we have a better sound system than just... wall of noise? 🎸.

🤯 OMG, can u even imagine being at one of these shows?! 😲 it's like, the energy is electric! 🔋 they're literally pushing the limits of sound, but in a good way? 🙌 the visuals are insane too, like you said, it's like they're trying to create this whole immersive experience. and Bilinda's vocals are, like, soothing? 😌 what kind of magic is that?! 💫 Kevin Shields is just pure genius, his guitar work is like nothing else out there. 🎸 and the band's chemistry is so palpable, you can feel it from the back of the room. I'm seriously considering getting earplugs (just kidding, lol) because I wanna fully immerse myself in that sonic chaos. 😂 this show is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, no question. 🙌

omg 🤯 i was at that my bloody valentine show in 2022 🎉 and i'm still reeling from the experience 🌪️ they were SO LOUD 🗣️ it's hard to say whether you need earplugs or just close your eyes and go with it 😂 bilinda butcher's vocals are like butter for my soul 🤤 kevin shields' wall of sound is insane 🔊 the visuals were mind-blowing too! i felt like i was in a sonic sculpture garden 🌳🎨 anyone else seen them live? what was your experience like?! 💥

I'm low-key impressed by their live show 😮! It's like they're trying to blow our eardrums out 🤯, but in a good way? I mean, you can't just turn down the volume on My Bloody Valentine - it's all about the experience 🎧. Bilinda Butcher's vocals are so soothing, like someone's singing directly into your soul 😌, while Kevin Shields' wall of sound is just... wow 🤯! They're like noise warriors or something, but in a good way? The visuals are insane too - it's like they're creating their own world on stage 🎥. And can we talk about how long this show was? Two hours? That's dedication 💯. I'm not surprised they've been called pioneers of shoegaze - they're pushing the boundaries of sound and creating something entirely new 🌐.

I gotta say, I love how loud they are live 🤯🎸! It's like, don't @ me if you can't handle the decibels 😂. Their show is all about intensity and energy, not some mellow jam session. The whole 'earplugs' thing just adds to the experience, right? It's like they're giving you permission to be loud and wild with them 🤘.

And yeah, I get why people say they sound more like Einstürzende Neubaten than, say, The Smiths or whatever 😒. But honestly, that wall of sound is what makes their music so iconic – it's like a force field of sound that just pulls you in 🌪️.

I'm all about this sonic sculpture vibe they're going for too 💥. It's like, they're not just playing music, they're creating an experience. And can we talk about how much I love their visuals? It's like they're pushing the boundaries of what live shows should be 📺.

And that tribute to Mani? Sincere and all, but also kinda awkward when it comes to the repeated song failure 😳. Still, it's great to see Kevin Shields still bringing the noise after all these years 🔊.

omg u gotta witness my bloody valentine live - its like nothin u ever heard before 🤯 they're talkin about sonic assault & earplugs lol, but honestly the decibels r just a bonus to how much it's gonna blow ur mind!!! bilinda's vocals are so soothing & kevin's wall of sound is like... whoa 🎸 colm & debbie kill on the drums too, gives me chills every time. its like they're sculptin sounds in mid air lol, not 2 be missed when they come to town - it's been ages since my bloody valentine performed live!

I took my 10-year-old to see My Bloody Valentine live and OMG the earplugs were a GAME CHANGER 🎧💥 I'm talking permanently hearing damage from screaming and not wanting to be able to hear music for a week, but I mean that in the best way possible - it was insane! The energy of the crowd and the band's performance is just on another level. My kid loved every minute of it even though they're still trying to figure out why everyone was crying during You Made Me Realise 😂💔. It's like, I get it, Kevin Shields' guitar playing can be a bit much at times, but that's all part of the magic right? 🤯 The visuals and lighting were stunning too! We'll definitely be seeing them again someday... if my ears can handle it 🎸😂

I'm totally down for this sonic assault 🤯 - the more earplugs you need, the better it is. I mean, who needs peace and quiet when you can have a wall of sound that's literally going to blow your eardrums out? 😂 But seriously, My Bloody Valentine's live show is like no other - it's an immersive experience that'll leave you breathless and bewildered. The way they weave together noise and melody is pure genius, and I love how they're still experimenting with new sounds even after all these years.

And can we talk about Kevin Shields for a sec? 🙌 He's the mastermind behind this sonic wizardry, and his ability to create that perfect blend of chaos and beauty is just mind-blowing. I'm not surprised he was nodding to Mani - he's clearly got a ton of respect for the Stone Roses legacy. The whole show feels like a journey through their discography, but with enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes.

I'm also loving how they're still pushing boundaries with their live shows - it's clear they're not just going through the motions. And can we get some more of this?! 🤩 I'd pay good money to see them perform again ASAP.

🎸🔊 OMG, I need earplugs too! Their live show is like nothin' else - it's like they're takin' over the whole space with all that noise 🌪️! But at the same time, it's so mesmerizin'... Bilinda's vocals are like butter for my ears 🤯. And Kevin Shields' wall of sound is just... WOW 🔥🎶

I'm dyin' to know how they do it, but somehow it all comes together - the rhythm section, the visuals, everything 📸. It's like a wild ride through soundscapes and I am HERE FOR IT 🚀! Seven years since their last tour, I'm glad they're doin' this again 🙌. And those tributes? So cool! Mani would be proud 😊. Can't wait for the next show... or maybe I'll just stick with earplugs 🎧😂
