‘Zootopia 2’ roars to record-setting global box office with $556M opening - WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale

Disney's "Zootopia 2" Shatters Records with Record-Breaking Opening, Bringing in $556 Million Globally.

The highly anticipated sequel from Walt Disney Company has left audiences roaring with delight, breaking numerous box office records worldwide. The animated animal city film opened to a staggering $96 million in North America over the weekend, while earning $156 million globally within five days of its release on Wednesday.

This record-breaking opening marks not only the highest international debut for an animated movie but also the fourth-highest global debut overall, with China accounting for nearly half of the film's total revenue at $272 million.

The success of "Zootopia 2" is a welcome relief to Hollywood, which has seen a dark year at theaters due to various factors. However, analysts say that this might be an exception rather than the norm. Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for Comscore, attributes the film's massive opening to its beloved franchise delivering what audiences were looking for worldwide.

The sequel features Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde in their comically domesticated city, a concept that captivated audiences in the first "Zootopia." Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, the movie is set almost a decade after the original's release. It had a March domestic opening of $75 million but has far surpassed expectations.

The film's massive success can be attributed to its global appeal and significant opening in China, which has been a challenging market for Hollywood films in recent years due to increased censorship and changing consumer behavior. However, with "Zootopia 2," Disney seems to have bucked the trend, taking advantage of a thawing relationship between Chinese studios.

In other news, Universal's Broadway adaptation "Wicked: For Good" continued its strong run, earning $62.8 million domestically over the weekend and bringing its North American total to $270.4 million internationally. Meanwhile, director Chloe Zhao's limited release of "Hamnet," starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, is set to become a major player in awards season.

The latest box office rankings are as follows:

1. "Zootopia 2" - $96.8 million
2. "Wicked: For Good" - $62.8 million
3. "Now You See Me: Now You Don’t" - $7 million

These figures signal a glimmer of hope for Hollywood's box office year, which has seen various challenges due to changing consumer behavior and increased competition from streaming services.

In related news, analysts predict that the final four weeks of 2025 will bring in significant revenue for the industry, with highly anticipated films such as "Avatar: Fire and Ash" and "Five Nights at Freddy’s 2" set to release.

omg can u believe $556 million is like whoa 🤯 i think its awesome how zootopia 2 broke all those records worldwide its so cool that china accounted for nearly half of the film's total revenue haha didnt expect that 😂 but also kinda sad for universal with wicked: for good earning only $62.8 million domestically 🤔 maybe thats just me but im still excited about avatar: fire and ash coming out later this year 🎥👀

Just saw that Disney's Zootopia 2 is killing it at the box office 🐰💸 I mean, $556 million globally in just five days? That's insane! It's great to see a beloved franchise delivering what audiences want. China was a game-changer for this movie, and it shows that Disney can tap into a big market when they need to. Hopefully, this is a sign of things getting better for Hollywood after a tough year. Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is already struggling 🤦‍♂️. Can't wait to see what else 2025 has in store for us... Avatar: Fire and Ash? Five Nights at Freddy’s 2? Fingers crossed!

I'm not sure how long this streak is gonna last... I mean, $556 million in just five days? That's crazy! 🤯 But let's take a step back, what makes "Zootopia 2" so special that it's breaking all these records? Is it really the beloved franchise delivering what audiences were looking for or is it something else entirely?

And don't even get me started on the state of Hollywood right now. It feels like everything is being pushed to streaming services and big-budget sequels, but where are the new IPs coming from? Are we gonna keep relying on reboots and remakes forever? 🤔

🎥 The box office scene is looking way better than I thought it would be this year 🙏. I mean, don't get me wrong, there have been some great films released already, but "Zootopia 2" taking the top spot and breaking all those records is just awesome 💥. It's like Disney knew exactly what audiences wanted and delivered it to us on a silver platter 🍴.

And let's be real, the success of this film isn't just about its quality, it's also about timing ⏰. I mean, with all the changes going on in the industry and consumer behavior, it's not easy for movies to stand out anymore 🔥. But "Zootopia 2" seems to have bucked that trend and proved that even after a few years, a beloved franchise can still deliver something special 🎉.

Of course, we all know that box office numbers don't always tell the whole story 🤔. There are so many factors at play here, from marketing to competition, but one thing's for sure - Disney is on fire 🔥 and it's going to be interesting to see how this year plays out as a whole 🔮. Bring on those final four weeks of 2025, I'm hyped 🎉!

omg u guys I'm literally so stoked about Zootopia 2's record-breaking opening 🤩 it's like the ultimate feel-good movie news! I was a bit worried that Hollywood was gonna have another rough year but it looks like Disney just slayed the game 💪 with its beloved franchise delivering what audiences wanted worldwide. And can we talk about how amazing China is being for Hollywood right now? 🙌 $272 million in revenue is no joke, it's like they're finally starting to break through those barriers. Let's keep that positivity going and see what other movies are gonna slay the box office this year 🎥💫

omg i cant even believe zoopia 2 broke all those records 🤯🎥 it's like the movie is literally speaking our language now! who wouldn't want to see jude and nick back in zootopia again? 😂🐰 it's like they took everything we loved from the first one and just amplified it. i mean china got nearly half of the revenue which is insane 🤑 and it's not just the numbers that are crazy, but also how well-received it was by audiences worldwide 🌎. for sure, this gives me so much hope for hollywood's box office year - we need more movie magic like zoopia 2 💫🎬

Man, $556 million is like finding a unicorn's treasure chest - it's just pure magic! 🦄🔮 I mean, Disney always knew their stuff was gonna be gold (pun intended), but this Zootopia sequel is on another level 🤯. China, huh? They must've been craving some animal city action 🐕😂. Seriously though, with the current streaming wars and whatnot, it's nice to see a big ol' blockbuster like this come through 💸. I'm hyped for Avatar: Fire and Ash - bring on the cinematic magic 🔥!

omg u guyz i'm so down for zootopia 2!! 🐰💥 it's like they really outdid themselves this time around, the animation is insane and jude & nick are still my fave couple 😍 i dont know how dis movie didnt get a better opening in china tho, cuz let's be real, thats where the real cash is 💸 anyway, its def a sign that hollywoods back on track and we need more movies like zootopia 2 🎥👏

🎥👀 So "Zootopia 2" is like, totally dominating the box office right now... I mean, who wouldn't want to see Judy and Nick's adventures again? 🐰🦊 The global appeal thing makes total sense, especially with China being a major player. Can you imagine?! 🤯

Here's a little diagram to illustrate how this is happening:

The sequel is like a breath of fresh air for Hollywood, which has been struggling lately. But I'm not holding my breath... 💸

I'm not surprised it's doing well, but still, $556 million is a crazy amount... 🤑 I mean, it's great for Disney and all that, but it just feels like they're milking the franchise for all it's worth. And don't even get me started on China - they must have been super invested in this one to make up nearly half of the revenue. It's almost like they were counting on it to happen... 🤔

omg u guys!!!!!! 🤯 Disney's Zootopia 2 is literally breaking records left and right!!! I'm not surprised tho lol, the first one was already a classic, but this sequel takes it to a whole new level! China is killing it with their box office revenue btw 🇨🇳, like who would've thought? 🤔 The fact that Hollywood has been struggling for years but Zootopia 2 comes out on top is just the icing on the cake 🍰. I'm so stoked to see "Avatar: Fire and Ash" & "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" hitting theaters soon, can't wait to get my popcorn fix 🍿👀

Yaaas, I'm so stoked about Zootopia 2 breaking all those records! 🐰🎉 It's like, Disney knew exactly what they were doing with this sequel - it's got the whole family vibe going on and that China market is HUNGRY for more Hollywood goodness! 💸 And can we talk about how great it is to see a movie making such a splash after all the drama in the industry lately? 🙌 It's like, a breath of fresh air and I am HERE. FOR. IT! 😆

🎥👀 so it looks like zootopia 2 is breaking all sorts of records 🤯 i mean $556 million globally in just five days that's insane 💸 what do you guys think about the film so far? has anyone seen it yet? or are you excited to see how it compares to the first one 🤔

I'm like, totally stoked about Disney's "Zootopia 2" breaking all these records... but at the same time, I'm kinda worried that it might just be a flash in the pan 🤔. I mean, we've seen how quickly movie trends can shift with streaming services and all that jazz. Still, on the other hand, $556 million is just crazy numbers 💸 and I guess "Wicked: For Good" does have its moments too... but let's be real, it's not exactly breaking new ground 🎭.

I'm also kinda curious about how China's been influencing Disney's success with this film – they've always been a bit of an enigma when it comes to Hollywood and censorship 🔮. And what's up with "Now You See Me: Now You Don’t" being at #3? 🤷‍♂️ I mean, I guess sometimes these things just don't click, right?

🤩 the good vibes are back! I'm loving how well-received Zootopia 2 is doing - who wouldn't want to watch more of Judy & Nick's adventures together? 🦊💕 It's awesome that Disney was able to break records and give audiences a reason to head back to theaters. Fingers crossed the rest of 2025 has more magic moments like this! 🎥👍

I'm so hyped for this film, it's like how Toy Story 3 killed it back in 2010 when I was a kid 🤩... I mean, Zootopia 2 is breaking all these records and I'm loving every minute of it! It's just like The Lion King, remember that epic opening? 💥 Anyway, the fact that Disney has managed to make this film so lovable again is music to my ears. I just hope more of these films come out that have a similar vibe as Zootopia 1 and 2. I'm still thinking about how much I loved Finding Nemo back in 2003 🐠
