NYPD monitoring DC shooting of National Guard members, says no threat to NYC

New York City's Police Commissioner downplays potential threat following Washington DC National Guard shooting.

In a move that has left some on edge, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch reassured the public that there is no known nexus between a deadly shooting of two National Guard members in Washington D.C. and the city they protect. The incident, which took place just blocks from the White House, left one guard member with head injuries while another was reportedly uninjured.

The troops involved were deployed from West Virginia, highlighting the security measures in place to safeguard major US cities ahead of holidays like Thanksgiving. According to Tisch, who has previously expressed reservations about deploying federal troops in New York City, the shooting appeared targeted and there is currently no evidence linking it to the Big Apple.

"We're keeping the Guard members and their families in our thoughts and prayers," she said. "We're closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with our law enforcement partners in D.C." This cautious approach seems aimed at alleviating concerns among residents, who had been bracing themselves for potential retaliation following President Trump's initial deployment of National Guardsmen in major cities.

A suspect has been taken into custody after allegedly carrying out the shooting, although their condition remains unknown. The NYPD's vigilance is being closely watched by residents and the public alike as the investigation unfolds.

I gotta say, this whole situation with the shooting in D.C. has everyone on edge 🤯. I mean, you got the National Guard involved, and now the NYPD is on high alert too 😬. It's like one thing leads to another, you know? But Commissioner Tisch seems cool-headed about it, trying to calm folks down, which is def appreciated 👌. Still, can't help but wonder if this was some kind of message to the city or what 🤔. What do you think happens next? Will they find out who did it and why?

omg u think its possible for a random person to just walk up 2 national guardsmen & shoot them?? thats crazy 🤯 i feel 4 the guards tho, they r putting themselves out there 4 our protection & it takes alot 2 do wat they do. i hope the cop commissioner is right that theres no nexus btwn this & nyc, dont wanna see any unnecessary tension or violence. btw, isnt it weird that the guy was taken into custody but we don't know wut happened? so many questions 🤔

omg what a relief she's not freakin worried about NYC getting hit lol i mean it's not like one incident in D.C doesn't make u think twice but lets be real we've got our own security measures in place like anyone else so i guess this is just another thing for us to keep an eye on anyway can't say much till the investigation is done 🤔💯

I'm still gettin' the heebie-jeebies thinkin' about all these mass shootings happenin' everywhere 🤕. I mean, what's goin' on? First it's DC, now NYC, and people are wonderin' if there's a connection. I'm not buyin' into this "no nexus" business from the Police Commissioner, ya know? She's been against deployin' federal troops in our city before, so why should we trust her on this one? 🤔

And what about all these guns just lyin' around? It's like, when am I gonna be able to walk down the street without worryin' someone's gonna start blazin'? 🎯 I know I'm not a politician, but can't they just do somethin' to make us feel safe again? 🤕 The NYPD's gotta stay on high alert, that's for sure. We need answers, and we need 'em now 💡

🤔 I don't think it's a good idea to downplay the potential threat just yet... 😬 I mean, two National Guard members were shot in D.C. - that's some serious business! 🚨 And now they're deploying more troops to major cities like NYC? It sounds like we're playing with fire 🔥 here. What if there is a link between the shooting and the city we're supposed to be protecting? 💡 The fact that Tisch has reservations about federal troops in NYC kinda raises more questions than answers 🤷‍♀️... can't we just err on the side of caution for once? 😅
