NASA & GLOBE Connect People, Land, and Space

NASA is gearing up to give its citizen scientists a bigger perspective on the environment, thanks to an upgrade in the GLOBE (Global Learning & Observations to Benefit the Environment) Program. The new feature allows volunteers of all ages to receive satellite data that matches their own observations, including land cover.

The program, which aims to engage the public in collecting environmental data, has seen a huge response from its users since it was launched. "Feedback from NASA is huge," says Tina Rogerson, who manages the satellite comparison emails for the GLOBE Observer Team. "It ties NASA science into what they saw when they did the observation."

When a volunteer receives an email with their satellite data match, they can see how their observations of land cover fit in with the wider space-based view. This new tool is expected to raise greater awareness of how NASA observes our planet from space and inform societal needs.

The update builds on the success of the cloud comparison system, which has been well-received by GLOBE volunteers. "Seeing that bigger, impactful perspective via the satellite comparison email is motivating," says Rogerson. The hope is to encourage more people to continue collecting Earth system observations for GLOBE's long-term environmental record.

The upgrade was made possible by the NASA Science Activation program, which connects NASA science experts with community leaders and organizations to promote deeper understanding of our world.

this is so cool!!! ๐Ÿš€ I'm loving how NASA is making citizen scientists feel like they're part of something bigger than themselves - it's not just about collecting data, but also getting to see the bigger picture too! ๐Ÿ” this new feature with satellite data and land cover observations is gonna raise some serious awareness about how we're observing our planet from space ๐ŸŒŽ it's amazing that NASA has built on the success of their cloud comparison system and made it even easier for volunteers to see the impact of their observations ๐Ÿ’ก now, let's get more people collecting Earth system observations and building that long-term environmental record ๐Ÿ“ˆ

I'm loving this new feature ๐Ÿคฉ! It's like having a window into space, right in your own backyard ๐ŸŒฟ. I mean, think about it - you're out there observing the environment, collecting data, and now you get to see how that fits into the bigger picture ๐Ÿ“Š. It's not just some random number or chart, it's a real-life example of how NASA is using tech to make sense of our planet ๐ŸŒŽ. And for all the kids (and let's be honest, adults too ๐Ÿ˜‚) who are already stoked about space, this is like the icing on the cake ๐Ÿฐ. It's a great way to get people excited about science and making a difference ๐Ÿ‘.

OMG I'm soooo excited about this new update ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ! It's going to make a huge difference in how people understand our planet ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’š. Being able to see their observations match up with NASA satellite data is like, totally mind-blowing ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ“Š. It's amazing that they're making it accessible to volunteers of all ages ๐Ÿ‘ฅ๐Ÿ‘ซ. This is going to inspire so many young people to get involved in science and take care of our planet ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒฟ. I'm sure it'll be a game-changer for the GLOBE program ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”“. Can't wait to see the impact this will have on raising awareness about environmental issues ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’š!

omg i cant believe nasa is making it easier for regular people like me to contribute to their earth observation program lol its so cool that they're using sat data to match my own observations its gonna be sick to see how it all fits together ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ’š

OMG this is kinda cool I guess! I mean, who wouldn't want to compare their backyard observations to satellite data? It's like a fun little puzzle ๐Ÿค” But seriously though, I'm curious - how accurate are these satellite matches? Are they just eyeballing it or is there some actual science behind it? I need some sources on this before I get too hyped ๐Ÿ“Š

I'm so stoked about this new update on the GLOBE Program! ๐Ÿš€ It's like, totally awesome that they're making it easier for citizen scientists to compare their observations with satellite data ๐Ÿ“Š. I mean, who doesn't want to see how their little observation fits into the bigger picture of space-based research? ๐Ÿ˜ It's a great way to raise awareness about NASA's environmental work and get people more engaged in collecting data that'll help us better understand our planet.

I can imagine it now - you're out observing land cover, taking notes, and then getting an email with your satellite data match... it's like, 'Wow, my observation is part of something way bigger than myself!' ๐ŸŒŽ That sense of perspective and impact is gonna be super motivating for more people to keep collecting Earth system observations. This update is a total game-changer for the GLOBE Program! ๐Ÿ‘

I think this new feature from NASA is going to make a big difference in how people understand what's really going on with our planet ๐ŸŒŽ. I mean, we've all heard about climate change and pollution, but actually seeing the satellite data that shows us what's happening can be super powerful. It's like, you're collecting your own data and then you get to see it compared to this massive space-based view... it's mind-blowing ๐Ÿคฏ. I'm excited to try it out myself and share it with my friends and family. Hopefully, more people will start paying attention to these kinds of issues too ๐Ÿ’ก.

I'm not surprised they're trying to make it look all pretty on social media ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ... I mean, upgrading the GLOBE Program seems like a good way to boost their public image. But let's be real, what's the real purpose here? Is it just to give people a fancy tool to fiddle with and call "science"? I doubt it's actually going to lead to any real change. People are just gonna point at these pretty satellite images and say "oh, look, we're not as bad off as we thought"... Meanwhile, the actual work of addressing our environmental problems is still being left on the backburner ๐Ÿ™„. Still, I guess it's good for a feel-good story to make people think they're contributing to something bigger than themselves ๐Ÿ˜

Just what we need, more people to care about the planet ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’š This GLOBE Program is a great way to get folks involved & see how their observations match up with NASA's satellite data ๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ๐Ÿ“Š

I mean, can you imagine being able to see your own backyard from space and saying "yep, I told my neighbor their lawn is weird"? ๐Ÿคฃ The new GLOBE Program upgrade is like that but for the whole planet! Now citizens can see how their observations match up with NASA's satellite data - it's like getting a cosmic approval rating for all your Earth observation skills ๐Ÿ˜‚. And honestly, who doesn't want to be part of making a bigger impact on our environment? It's like playing a game where you're the hero saving the planet, but instead of capes, you get satellite data and emails ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’ก.

OMG ๐Ÿคฉ I'm so stoked about this update! It's like, totally awesome that NASA is giving its citizen scientists a bigger perspective on the environment. I mean, who doesn't want to see how their tiny observation fits into the huge space-based view? ๐ŸŒŽ It's like, a whole new level of understanding and awareness, you know? And it's not just for kids! I've seen so many adults getting into it too, which is amazing.

I think this is such an awesome way to engage people in collecting environmental data. I mean, NASA already has a huge response from its users, but now they're going to be able to see how their observations fit into the bigger picture. It's like, a whole new level of motivation and excitement! ๐Ÿ’ก
