December skies boast meteor showers, a super moon and Orion the Hunter's return

This December, sky gazers will be treated to a celestial spectacle like no other – two spectacular meteor showers, the majestic appearance of Orion the Hunter's winter return, and a supermoon that will illuminate the night sky.

The first of these events is one for the books: the Geminids meteor shower, which promises to deliver an incredible 120-150 shooting stars per hour on December 13th and 14th. This cosmic display will be visible across the globe, with bright, fast, and white meteors streaking across the night sky – some of which may even take on a greenish hue due to their composition.

But that's not all: just as the Geminids are in full swing, a second, smaller meteor shower – the Ursids – will begin its own spectacular display on December 17th and peak on the longest night of the year, the winter solstice on December 21st. While it won't be quite as potent as the Geminids, the Ursids promise to put on a show with 10-20 shooting stars per hour.

For those hoping to catch a glimpse of the celestial action without too much competition from the moon's bright light, luck is on their side – the moon will be in its waning crescent phase during the Geminids' peak and waxing crescent phase during the Ursids. This timing also offers a chance to spot planets and winter constellations, including the winter sky itself.

And then there's the supermoon, which will make the night of December 4th – just before the year draws to a close – one for romance and wonder. Though it won't be as bright or important for science as some might hope, this "freeze-your-a-- moon" still marks an impressive occasion: at its closest point to Earth, the moon is 10% bigger and brighter than usual.

Finally, no winter night would be complete without a visit from Orion the Hunter, whose majestic return signals the start of the season. For those in New York City (or beyond), the best viewing spots are plentiful – and with minimal light pollution, one can truly lose themselves in the starry expanse. So mark your calendars for this December's astronomical highlights, and get ready to chase shooting stars, supermoons, and winter constellations into the night sky.

OMG, I'm so hyped for the celestial events coming up! 🌠 The Geminids meteor shower is gonna be insane with 120-150 meteors per hour on Dec 13th & 14th 🤩, and the Ursids will still put on a great show too 💫. And can we talk about how lucky we are that the moon will be in its waning crescent phase during Geminids? 👀 That means we'll get to see those meteors in all their glory without the moon's bright light competing with them. Plus, it's a supermoon on Dec 4th 🌕 which is always exciting! Orion the Hunter's return is also gonna be so beautiful ✨. I'm planning on getting out of the city and finding a spot with minimal light pollution to take in the views. It's gonna be a magical night to remember! ⭐

man... remember when we could actually see the stars? nowadays it's like they're hiding or something 🌠. but you know what's cool? these meteor showers! 120-150 meteors per hour? that's like a light show up in the sky ✨. and don't even get me started on the supermoon, it's like the moon is trying to steal the show 😎. i mean, who needs actual romance when you can just gaze at the night sky with your significant other? lol. anyway, gotta love the old days when we didn't need all these fancy tech gadgets to see the stars... good times 🌃.

I'm telling you, if you're gonna catch a glimpse of those meteor showers, you gotta be out there on Dec 13th and 14th, Geminids are gonna put on the show of a lifetime! 120-150 meteors per hour is no joke 🤯. And don't even get me started on Orion, it's like the whole sky is setting up for this winter solstice display 🌃. But let's be real, if you're gonna mess with the timing of these events, you gotta at least know what you're doing, right? The waning crescent moon during Geminids and waxing crescent during Ursids... come on, don't leave it up to luck! 😉

omg 🤩🌠️ december is gonna be lit 🔥❄️! two meteor showers = double the stargazing fun 🌠🎉, and orion's back 👑💫 so grab a blanket & hit those skies 😊🔭. supermoon on dec 4th tho? swoon 💕🌕 120-150 meteors/hour for geminids 🤯 mind blown!

OH MAN I'M SO EXCITED FOR THESE ASTRONOMICAL EVENTS IN DECember!!! 😍🌠 the Geminids are going to be INSANE with 120-150 meteors per hour!! i'm planning on staying up late on dec 13th and 14th to catch a glimpse of those bright, fast, white meteors 🚀 and maybe even some greenish ones - that's like, whoa!! 🤩 and then there's the supermoon on dec 4th which is going to be EPIC!! it's not as big or scientifically significant but still a major event for romance and wonder 💕💫

🌠🎉 December is gonna be epic! I'm so hyped for those meteor showers 🚀💥, like Geminids on Dec 13th-14th - 120-150 shooting stars per hour? That's insane! 🤯 And the supermoon too, 10% bigger and brighter than usual... romance and wonder, right? 😍 I'm a city boy, but even with light pollution, Orion's return is gonna be a vibe 💫. Anyone got plans to gaze at the stars on Dec 21st? Winter solstice and all that 🌃. Let me know if you're stargazing this month!

OMG 🤩, have you seen those meteor shower predictions? 120-150 meteors per hour during the Geminids on Dec 13th & 14th?! That's like, a cosmic party in the sky! And I'm low-key obsessed with the supermoon too 🌕. Like, who needs romance when you can just gaze at the moon being all big and bright? But honestly, it's not just about that – it's about the whole celestial experience, you know? Orion the Hunter is making an appearance, and those winter constellations are calling our names! I'm so ready to trade in my cozy night in for a stargazing session 🌃. The moon being in its waning crescent phase during the Geminids is, like, the icing on the cake. Can't wait to see all these astronomical highlights come together!

🌠 I'm kinda excited about these celestial events but also kinda skeptical. Like, are we really gonna see 120-150 meteors per hour? That sounds too good to be true 🤔. And what's with the supermoon being all romantic and stuff? Can't we just appreciate it for its astronomical significance without getting all mushy 😒. On a more serious note, I hope people aren't gonna get too caught up in trying to see all these events and end up staying out way too late, especially during the winter solstice when it's supposed to be our coziest time of year 🍂🔥. And have you seen the moon's phases lately? It's like it's just teasing us with its bright light and then going waning crescent or waxing crescent at random times 🌕. Still, I guess it's hard to resist the allure of a supermoon and some sick meteor showers 🔮🔥

"Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it." You gotta catch those meteor showers, supermoon and Orion's return! 🌠🔭️ It's gonna be a wild ride for stargazers this December!

I'm not sure about the whole "freeze-your-a-- moon" thing tho 🤷‍♀️. I mean, yeah, it'll be 10% bigger and brighter, but is that really a big deal? Like, who's gonna notice that extra bit of brightness in their daily lives? 🌕 But hey, it's still a nice spectacle to look at, especially with all the other cool stuff happening around it – the Geminids meteor shower, Orion making its return, and the supermoon shining bright. That's some awesome cosmic action right there! ⭐

man these meteor showers are gonna be epic 💥🌠 like who gets to see all those meteors streaking across the sky at once? its literally a cosmic display for the books 📚 and i wish im in nyc or somewhere with minimal light pollution so i can get the best view of orion the hunter's return 🌟 i mean what more can you ask from nature, two spectacular meteor showers and a supermoon all in one month 🤯 December is def gonna be lit 🔥

🤔 I'm all about the Geminids meteor shower on Dec 13th & 14th... but wait, what if it's not as spectacular as everyone says? 🚨 And then there's this supermoon thing, which is kinda cool, I guess... but will people actually be out stargazing or just taking selfies with the moon in the background? 📸 I mean, don't get me wrong, a bigger and brighter moon can be pretty neat, but it's not like it's going to change my life or anything. On the other hand, Orion the Hunter returning is always a highlight of mine... unless we're talking about how crowded it gets in NYC for the best viewing spots... 🏙️ And what about the Ursids meteor shower? Is it even worth getting excited about? 🤷‍♀️ I don't know, maybe I'm just being too harsh on these celestial events... but hey, at least there's always something to look forward to in December! ❄️

man 🌠 those celestial events are gonna be lit 🔥 like 2 meteors a minute is crazy 💥 can't wait to catch that supermoon on dec 4th it's gonna be sooo pretty 🌕 gotta get outta city life for a bit and find some dark spot to stargaze 🏞️

I'm so excited for the Geminids meteor shower on Dec 13th & 14th 🌠️! My kid is really interested in space and I think it's a great opportunity to share that passion with her. We'll be heading out to a dark spot away from the city to maximize our chances of seeing those bright, fast meteors 🚀️. The supermoon on Dec 4th will also be a bonus – we might even plan a romantic picnic under the stars 🍽️. I do hope it's clear skies though, I don't want to ruin the magic for my little one 😊.

omg u guys I'm so hyped for these celestial events 🤩! like, have you seen those vids of the Leonid meteor showers back in 2011? they were WILD 🔥 anyway, i think it's gonna be a sick winter season for stargazing with all these events happening together 🌃. and omg don't forget about orion's return 🎯! btw, has anyone else tried those new galaxy-themed sneakers that just dropped? 😂

🌠 I'm so down for these meteor showers 🚀! Like, can you imagine just sitting outside on a cold winter's night and watching 120-150 meteors streak across the sky? Mind blown. And yeah, it's always cool to catch a glimpse of Orion before winter even sets in. I've been meaning to get out there with some binoculars or a telescope for ages now 📈. The timing of these events is pretty sweet too - can't wait to see how many shooting stars we can spot without the moon ruining the party 😊.

OMG, I AM SO EXCITED FOR THESE ASTRONOMICAL EVENTS!!! 🚀💫 THE GEMINIDS METEOR SHOWER IS GOING TO BE INSANE WITH 120-150 METEORS PER HOUR!!! AND IT'S NOT JUST THAT, WE'RE ALSO GETTING A SUPERMOON WHICH WILL MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A BIG OL' BRIGHT WHITE BALL IN THE SKY!!! AND LET'S NOT FORGET ORION THE HUNTER RETURNING TO THE NIGHT SKY!!! I'M TOTALLY GOING OUTSIDE ON DECEMBER 13TH AND 14TH WITH A BLANKET AND SOME HOT CHOCOLATE TO TAKE IN ALL THE MAGIC!!! 🍫🌃

This is gonna be a sick month for stargazers 🌠️! I'm loving how the moon timing works out - perfect chance to spot some celestial goodies without it being too full or overwhelming. And can we talk about the Geminids and Ursids meteor showers? 120-150 shooting stars per hour?! That's wild 🔥. It's also awesome that Orion the Hunter is back, I mean who doesn't love a good winter constellations session 🤓. The supermoon on the 4th is also pretty cool, even if it's not as huge of a deal for science nerds like myself 😜. All in all, December is shaping up to be an epic month for astronomy and I'm here for it 👍

OMG, you know how we used to just grab our old binoculars and head out into the backyard to watch the Perseid meteor shower back in '02? Remember that feeling of awe and wonder? It's gonna be like that again this month with all these celestial events! I'm so stoked for the Geminids, I've always loved how those meteors streak across the sky, it's like nature's own fireworks display 🎇. And don't even get me started on Orion, he's like a old friend coming back to visit. I wonder if we'll have any clear skies in LA this year, my cousin has this old telescope and it's always so cool to gaze through that...
