Brandy and Monica’s ‘The Boy is Mine’ tour heats up a snowy Detroit - Detroit Metro Times

Brandy and Monica's High-Energy 'The Boy Is Mine' Tour Brings Snowy Detroit to Life

Despite a blizzard that blanketed the Motor City, a sea of enthusiastic fans braved the cold on Saturday night at Little Caesars Arena, where the iconic R&B duo brought their sold-out "The Boy is Mine" tour to life. The 32-city trek has been heating up venues across the country, and Detroit was no exception.

The night's festivities kicked off with American Idol winner Jamal Roberts, followed by Mya, who graciously accepted roses, posters, and merchandise from fans before taking the stage to deliver hit after hit. However, due to a last-minute change of plans, Muni Long's scheduled appearance had been replaced, and Mya stepped in seamlessly.

Next up was Destiny's Child alum Kelly Rowland, who brought her signature elegance to the stage with performances of "Motivation" and two classic tracks from her time with the group. The singer made history by taking the stage for the first time in 15 years, treating fans to a nostalgic dose of early 2000s magic.

The main event arrived at 9:40 pm, as Brandy and Monica took the stage in black and white attire, accompanied by a dozen backup dancers. The theme continued throughout the evening, with both artists showcasing their impressive vocal range over forty curated tracks spread across six acts.

Throughout the show, Brandy and Monica engaged in playful banter and musical interplay, trading verses on hits like "Knock Knock" and "Best Friend." They also paid homage to Detroit culture by incorporating local flair into their performances. Monica even brought out three of the city's finest rappers – Kash Doll, Skilla Baby, and Icewear Vezzo – for a surprise trio performance.

The evening was punctuated by video montages that highlighted the history behind the duo's infamous rivalry with the media, which, in reality, never materialized. The show also featured heartfelt shoutouts to Aaliyah and Whitney Houston, showcasing the enduring influence of their legacies on the R&B landscape.

As the night drew to a close, Brandy and Monica delivered an unforgettable duet performance of "The Boy is Mine," sending the packed arena into raptures. It was clear that both artists had still got it, and their show proved that the magic of yesteryear's R&B remains firmly in place – a testament to the timeless appeal of these music icons.

🤩 oh man I'm literally shook!! I mean who wouldn't wanna see Brandy and Monica live?! They're like the ultimate girl power duo! And that surprise rap performance by Kash Doll, Skilla Baby, and Icewear Vezzo was everything and more! 🎶💥 The way they incorporated local Detroit flair into their show was so cool. It's amazing how they still got it after all these years. I'm not surprised though, those two are legends! 😍

OMG u guyz, i just got back from detroit and OMG that concert was LIFE.CHANGING!!! 🤩 I'm literally still on a high from it, even tho my toes are frozen 😂 Brandy & Monica brought so much energy to the stage, it was like they were 20 again 💃. I loved how they did their own thing with the show, incorporating local talent and video montages that told their story 🎥. And can we talk about how cute Brandy looked in black and white attire? 😍 Monica's performance was so elegant & I'm living for her solo spot 🤩. I also felt all the nostalgia vibes when they did "The Boy is Mine" duet, it brought back memories of my teenage years 💔. Anyone else who went to this concert?? 🤗

man its wild how they were able to bring this whole snowy detroit thing together 🌨️, but its also like what i'm trying to say is even when life throws challenges our way, we still gotta find ways to make it work and have fun at the same time, you feel? they were all brave enough to show up despite the weather & it made for an unforgettable night 🎉

Ugh, I'm not surprised they could pull off a sold-out show despite the weather 🌨️. It just goes to show that people are desperate for some old-school nostalgia and willing to brave the cold for it. And don't even get me started on how fake the "rivalry" between Brandy and Monica was 😒. I mean, come on, who actually believed they had a beef with the media? The whole thing feels like a carefully crafted marketing ploy to get people excited about the show. But hey, at least it worked, right? 👎

omg, this Brandy and Monica tour is giving me all the feels 😍🎤 i mean, who doesn't love an epic 90s/2000s R&B throwback? but seriously, it's amazing that they're still killing it after all these years 💁‍♀️ their vocals are insane and their chemistry on stage is undeniable ❤️ I also love how they incorporated Detroit culture into the show – it's a great nod to the city's rich history 🎉. my only gripe is that the video montage about their supposed rivalry with the media felt a bit scripted 😐 still, the whole thing was an unforgettable night of music and nostalgia 🌃
