BBC Acquires Beatles Biopic Series 'Hamburg Days'
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has acquired a six-part documentary series, titled "Hamburg Days," which chronicles the early days of The Beatles as they struggled to make a name for themselves in Germany's iconic music scene. The series is based on the memoirs of Klaus Voormann, who lived with the band members in a London flat during the 1960s and designed the cover art for their album "Revolver."
The show will follow the story of an inexperienced young rock 'n' roll band from Liverpool as they collide with Voormann and early Beatles photographer Astrid Kirchherr. Together, they help shape the band's transformation into one of the most influential music groups in history.
BBC Head of Scripted Pre-Buy Acquisitions Sue Deeks described the series as a "fascinating" account of how The Beatles honed their skills in Hamburg before achieving international success. The show will feature an incredible soundtrack and will air on the BBC iPlayer and BBC One, although its exact release date has yet to be announced.
The project is being led by director Christian Schwochow, who previously worked on "The Crown," as well as Mat Whitecross ("Oasis: Supersonic") and composer David Holmes ("Ocean's Thirteen," "Good Vibrations"). The show is just the latest in a series of Beatles projects aimed at satisfying fans' appetite for Fab Four content.
Other notable Beatles projects currently in development include a new remaster of "The Beatles Anthology" series, with an expanded ninth chapter, and a four-part cinematic event, set to be released in 2028, which will tell the stories of each band member.
