Major incident declared in Derby as two people held on suspicion of explosives offences

Two men arrested in Derby amid explosives incident spark widespread evacuation.

Police in Derby have declared a major incident, prompting over 200 homes to be evacuated following an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of two individuals on suspicion of explosives-related offences. Authorities have confirmed that the incident is not being investigated as a terrorism case, but rather as a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring public safety.

The evacuation zone was established after officers carried out a warrant at an address in Vulcan Street, where materials were discovered that raised suspicions about potential explosives. A cordon has been put in place around several roads in the area, with police warning residents to remain indoors for up to 24 hours and make arrangements for pets and medication.

The army's Explosive Ordnance Division is also responding to the incident, which is expected to involve controlled works that may produce a audible bang. Residents are being told to prepare for this possibility and have been advised to keep windows and doors shut during the procedure.

Local authorities have set up a rest centre for those affected at the Salvation Army, where residents can seek shelter until the situation is resolved. Fire and ambulance services are also working closely with police to ensure public safety throughout the incident.

While authorities reassure that there is no wider risk to the community, the evacuation and cordon measures serve as a precautionary measure to mitigate any potential risks associated with explosives-related incidents.

๐Ÿค” what's the real story here? we're being told it's not terrorism, but like, what's the source on that? how do they know it's just a precautionary measure and not something more? ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ 200 homes evacuated, army involved... sounds like a pretty serious situation to me. shouldn't we be hearing from someone who knows what's going on behind closed doors? ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅ just read about the explosives incident in Derby and I'm kinda concerned about public safety, you know? like, why have 200 homes evacuated already? seems excessive to me ๐Ÿค”. don't get me wrong, it's better to err on the side of caution, but all this commotion is causing a lot of stress for people, especially those with pets and medication ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’Š. hope everything gets resolved soon and we can go back to our normal lives ๐Ÿ‘

I can imagine how stressful this must be for all those people living in that area ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ . Like, one minute you're just going about your day, and then suddenly there's a cordon up and everyone has to leave their homes? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ It's scary, you know? And the thought of it being a precautionary measure instead of something more... sinister, is still a bit unsettling ๐Ÿ’”. I hope the authorities are doing everything they can to keep everyone safe, even if it means causing some inconvenience ๐Ÿ™.

ugh, can u even imagine having to pack up ur whole house & evacuate just because of a 'precautionary measure'? ๐Ÿคฏ my kid would freak out about leaving their room let alone the whole house! and what about all those pets? poor little fur babies are probably stressed out too ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ˜ฉ i get that authorities wanna keep ppl safe, but can't they think of a way to do it without causing so much disruption? ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ so this just happened in Derby? another 'major incident' to add to our collection of bomb scares ๐Ÿ˜’ hope everything is okay though, no need for 200+ homes to be evacuated... like, what's the point of having a 'major incident' declaration if it's not even that major? ๐Ÿค” and yeah, great, the army's getting involved, because nothing says 'public safety' like a bunch of explosives going off in the middle of the night ๐ŸŒƒ sounds like a real fun way to spend your evening. at least the Salvation Army is being all angelic about providing a rest centre for everyone... ๐Ÿ‘

man... this just gives me the heebie-jeebies you know? like, two guys in derby, and suddenly everyone's gotta leave their homes?? 200+ people having to evacuate their homes because of some "suspicious materials"?? i get it, public safety is key, but can't we just be a bit more cautious without putting the whole community on edge?

i'm glad they're taking precautions, but isn't it a bit excessive for the army to be involved? like, don't get me wrong, i appreciate the extra layer of security, but this feels like a big production. and what about all those pets and meds? how are people supposed to take care of their furry friends during this chaos?

i just wish they'd give us more info about what's going on, you know? like, what exactly did these guys have in the house that made police suspect explosives? i mean, is it really worth keeping everyone indoors for 24 hours if we're not even sure what's going on?

anyway, fingers crossed everything goes smoothly and no one gets hurt ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ’•
