Championship roundup: Blackburn match abandoned due waterlogged pitch … again

Blackburn Rovers were left to rue another woeful day on the pitch after their Championship match against Sheffield Wednesday was abandoned due to a waterlogged surface – the second time this season that such an incident has occurred. The hosts were leading 1-0 when Yuki Ohashi's fifth goal of the campaign gave Blackburn the lead in the 33rd minute. However, conditions quickly deteriorated, with the referee opting to abandon the match after just an hour.

The defeat is a further blow to Wednesday's already dire prospects, who remain on -10 points following deductions but managed to escape their fifth successive defeat thanks to a well-deserved point from the visitors. The match was marked by tension between the two sets of supporters, with Blackburn fans once again calling for change in the wake of the latest abandonment.

In other Championship news, Millwall edged out Bristol City 1-0 at Ashton Gate, courtesy of Mihailo Ivanovic's goal in the second half. However, the victory was marred by ugly touchline scenes after City goalkeeper Radek Vitek made a double save from Femi Azeez, and Max Crocombe tipped a late Ross McCrorie effort around a post to secure Millwall's lead.

Coventry, meanwhile, suffered an emphatic 3-0 defeat at the hands of Ipswich, while Sheffield United bounced back from their last loss with a resounding 4-0 win over Stoke. Adam Armstrong scored twice as Southampton secured a 3-1 victory over Birmingham, moving them three points off the playoffs.

Watford's Javi Gracia praised his team's fight after they came from behind to beat Norwich 3-2 at Vicarage Road. Tom Ince's late strike sealed a thrilling win for the Hornets, who are now free of relegation worries. Leicester City manager Martí Cifuentes celebrated a crucial 3-1 win over Derby, while Preston earned a point in a 1-1 draw with Wrexham.

Finally, Charlton's match against Portsmouth was abandoned after a supporter passed away during the game, sparking an outpouring of grief from fans and players alike.

Ugh, can't even watch football anymore 🤯. Abandon the match like that? 2nd time this season already... what's up with all these waterlogged surfaces? Like, how hard is it to prepare for a game? And poor Yuki Ohashi, scores a goal only to see his team get robbed of 3 points... 😩. Meanwhile, Millwall gets a point despite some pretty sketchy stuff happening on the touchline... referees need to keep a closer eye on that 🙄. Anyways, Coventry's loss is just another nail in their coffin... 😢

Man, this Championship season is just getting crazy! 🤯 One minute you're on top, next minute your game gets abandoned because the pitch is flooded 💧🌊. I feel bad for Blackburn Rovers, they were really taking control when Yuki Ohashi scored that goal ⚽️. And poor Sheffield Wednesday, they've got a tough time already and this just adds to it 😞.

But on the bright side, there are some positives! Millwall getting that win over Bristol City was a great morale booster 🙌, and I'm loving how Southampton's comeback against Birmingham is getting people excited again ⚽️. And Coventry... well, they're still working on getting back on track 😅.

I also gotta give it up to Watford's Javi Gracia for being all about that fight 💪. Coming from behind to beat Norwich 3-2 was no easy feat! 🤯 Leicester City's win over Derby is also huge momentum for them ⚡️, and I'm loving how Preston earned a point against Wrexham 🙌.

And lastly, RIP to the Charlton fan who passed away during their game 😢. That's just heartbreaking. My condolences go out to all the fans and players involved 💔.

OMG I FEEL SO BAD FOR BLACKBURN ROVERS 😞 THEY JUST CAN'T SEEM TO GET A BREAK THIS SEASON!!! AND SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY NEEDS TO STEP UP THEIR GAME ASAP 🚨 THE CHAMPIONSHIP IS GETTING REALLY COMPETITIVE NOW!!

Ugh, waterlogged pitch problems are like, so frustrating 🤯! I mean, can't the refs just call for a delay or something? Instead they just abandon the match and it's all bad news for both teams. Like, what about the Blackburn fans who were hyped to be winning? Now they're stuck with nothing but disappointment. And it's not like this is the first time it's happened - I mean, second time this season already... it's getting old 🙄.

Man, I'm so sick of this waterlogged nonsense! 🤦‍♂️ Can't even have a decent football match without the pitch being all soggy. And another abandonment? Like, what's going on with the Championship this season?! 😩 Blackburn's fans are right to be frustrated - 1-0 up and then just called off? It's like they're not even trying anymore.

I feel for Sheffield Wednesday, though - they need a win so badly. But at least they got that point against Blackburn, I suppose? 💯 Millwall's goal was sick, but those touchline scenes were wild 🤯 Bristol City should be ashamed of themselves. And Coventry getting thrashed by Ipswich? Ouch! 😳 But hey, Sheffield United and Southampton are on fire right now!

And can we talk about Watford for a sec? 🙌 Javi Gracia's team showed so much heart to come back from behind. Tom Ince's goal was insane! And Leicester City's win over Derby is huge - they're getting closer to the playoffs, yay! 👏 But Charlton's match being abandoned because of a supporter passing away... that's just heartbreaking 😔 Rest in peace, mate.

🤦‍♂️ so frustrating for Blackburn, 2nd time this season they get a match abandoned due to bad pitch conditions 🌧️. can't blame them for getting upset though, leads 1-0 only to have it all taken away 🚫. waterlogged surface is like, a recipe for disaster ⛈️. on the other hand, Millwall's win over Bristol City was a nice lift 🎉, but that touchline scene afterwards? ugh 😒. and poor Coventry, got thrashed by Ipswich 3-0 😳. anyway, Adam Armstrong scoring twice for Southampton is like, yay 🙌. and Watford coming from behind to beat Norwich? massive win for them 💪. Charlton's match being abandoned because of a fan passing away? RIP 🕊️, that's just heartbreaking ❤️.

😞 I feel for the Blackburn Rovers fans again 🤕, that's like the third time this season they're dealing with a waterlogged pitch. It's getting to be a regular problem in the Championship, which is just frustrating for everyone involved. The tension between the two sets of supporters was palpable too ⚔️, I can only imagine how demoralizing it must be for them to see their team abandoned mid-match.

On a more positive note, it's great to see teams like Millwall and Ipswich getting some crucial wins 🎉! And kudos to Javi Gracia and Watford for fighting back against Norwich – that was an incredible comeback 💪. Charlton's match against Portsmouth may have been abandoned, but I'm glad fans and players were able to show respect for the supporter who passed away ❤️.

I'm gettin' old 🤣... remember when we used to care about the football schedule? Nowadays, it seems like the pitch is more important than the actual match 🏟️. Waterlogged surfaces? That's just a given these days, innit? 🌧️ And don't even get me started on the referee's decisions – abandon the game after an hour? Give 'em a break, mate! 😂

I swear, I've seen some wild stuff in my time, but this season's been somethin' else. First, it's Blackburn, then it's Charlton... what's next? ⏱️ Anyway, back to the positives – Millwall gettin' that point against Bristol City was sweet 🙌, and Southampton's Adam Armstrong is on fire 🔥! Can't wait for the next matchday... or not, depending on how my footy team does 😅.

Ugh I hate days like this 🤕! The Championship is already so competitive and now you've got these matches getting abandoned due to weather conditions. It's not just the teams that are affected but also the fans who were looking forward to a good match. And poor Portsmouth, couldn't they have even gotten in 90 minutes of play at least? 🤷‍♂️ Those Charlton fans must be going through some emotional stuff right now ❤️. At least Watford managed to snatch that win against Norwich, it's always nice to see them get the three points 💪. And I feel bad for Sheffield Wednesday, they're having a tough time this season 🤞

come on guys Blackburns gotta get their pitch sorted or it's gonna be a repeat performance all season 🤦‍♂️ waterlogged surface is one thing but abandoning the match twice is just embarrassing. and can't we move past that Charlton thing, it was sad but lets focus on the rest of the teams struggling to keep up. Millwall's win over Bristol City was nice but those touchline scenes were just dirty 😒. Ipswich smashed Coventry, now if they could just stay focused...

the championship is getting crazy 🤯 waterlogged surfaces are like, super common now lol... i don't get why ref just stops matches tho? can't they find a way to play thru this kinda stuff? ⛈️ anyway, Millwall's win was cool i guess, but Bristol City fans looked super salty 😒 watford finally out of relegation worries, nice 👍
