Man Targets Brooklyn Businesses in String of Disturbing Robberies, Police Seek Public's Help
A suspect has been linked to a dozen robberies across Brooklyn over the past two months, with authorities urging the public to come forward with any information that might lead to his capture. The man, described as approximately 6 feet tall and slim, has primarily targeted female employees at stores in Boerum Hill, Park Slope, Flatbush, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Fort Greene, and Downtown Brooklyn.
His modus operandi is to verbally threaten or intimidate his victims, sometimes brandishing a knife, before making off with cash from the register. In some instances, he has also targeted women at ATMs, including pushing one 29-year-old woman to the ground, causing her minor injuries.
The first reported incident occurred on October 13th at a Dunkin' location on Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill, where a 35-year-old employee was threatened and robbed. Over the following weeks, similar incidents were reported at nearby establishments, with the suspect striking again just last month on November 30th at a shop on Dekalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn.
In each case, police say the man used a combination of intimidation and stealth to carry out his crimes, leaving his victims shaken but thankfully unharmed. The NYPD has released surveillance images showing the suspect wearing a black jacket from The North Face, which may help identify him.
As with many recent robbery trends in Brooklyn, this incident marks a slight uptick compared to the same period last year, according to police data. However, citywide robberies have dropped significantly, a 10% decrease that authorities attribute to increased community outreach and policing efforts.
