Qatar's Prime Minister Calls for Inclusive Dialogue to Achieve Regional Peace
In a recent address at the Doha Forum, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has emphasized the need for inclusive engagement with non-state actors such as Hamas in order to achieve regional peace. According to Sheikh Mohammed, it is essential to establish communication with these groups in order to resolve conflicts and reach a solution.
The Prime Minister's comments come at a time when Qatar has been hosting Hamas since 2012, following an invitation from the US. The group's office in Qatar has primarily been used for communication and facilitating ceasefires and aid to Gaza. Sheikh Mohammed rejected allegations that funds sent to Gaza went directly to Hamas, insisting they benefited the Palestinian people.
Qatar's efforts have led to significant humanitarian outcomes, including the release of hostages and alleviation of suffering among Gazans. However, the Prime Minister was critical of Israel's recent attack on Qatar, labeling it an "unethical move." He revealed that US President Donald Trump had expressed frustration with the Israeli actions, indicating a strong concern for the diplomatic process.
Regarding Gaza's reconstruction, Sheikh Mohammed stated that Qatar would continue to support the Palestinian people but would not write a check for what others destroyed. He argued that there is an ironic double standard in the international community, where Russia is expected to fund all reconstruction efforts in Ukraine, while Israel refuses to take responsibility for rebuilding what it has destroyed.
The Prime Minister also opposed any forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza by Israel, stating that they have the right to choose their own fate and should not be deported or coerced into leaving their country.
