RIP, 'Dead Space'....Again (2008-2023)

EA has officially retired its sci-fi horror franchise Dead Space once again, leaving fans wondering why this beloved series can't seem to catch a break. According to insiders speaking with Insider Gaming, the 2023 remake has sealed the fate of the franchise, and EA is not planning on reviving it anytime soon.

While there were hopes that EA might reconsider its decision by selling off the intellectual property (IP) to pay off debt incurred from a recent deal, those plans appear to be on ice as well. The move comes after EA's new majority owner, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, is struggling financially.

The franchise's demise was already uncertain following the release of its remake, with some sources suggesting that an extended ending was planned for the sequel, Dead Space 2. However, it seems that EA has abandoned those plans, and developer Motive Studio has shifted focus to other projects, including an Iron Man game.

Motive itself explored alternative plans for the franchise, including a new entry in the series. However, these ideas were shelved due to poor sales targets missed during the remake's release.

The news is particularly disappointing given that horror games have seen significant revivals from fellow franchises like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, which continue to thrive in the gaming industry. It appears that EA has lost faith in its own single-player IPs, opting instead for a more cautious approach that leaves many beloved series on the shelf.

EA's decision raises questions about the company's willingness to nurture long-term relationships with its intellectual properties. Will other franchises be subject to similar treatment? Only time will tell if this is a one-time mistake or a new trend for the publisher.

omg, it's so sad to hear that Dead Space is done 4 good ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ˜” i mean, i loved playing through the original games and the remake was supposed 2 b a great opportunity 2 breathe new life into the franchise... now it's just another reminder that even successful IPs can get left behind if they're not makin' enough cash ๐Ÿ’ธ

i guess we'll just have to keep an eye on Motive Studio's other projects, like that Iron Man game ๐Ÿค– and see if they can recapture some of that Dead Space magic... but it's hard 2 say goodbye 2 a franchise that was so close 2 gettin' its due ๐Ÿ’”

ugh i'm literally dying over here EA can't even keep dead space alive it was such an underrated series and now it's just another victim of their poor decision making ๐Ÿค• i mean come on who does that to a fanbase? ๐Ÿค” the remake didn't do great but that doesn't mean the whole franchise has to suffer. it's like they're trying to put out all the other awesome single-player IPs in the industry and just leave them to rot.

i'm so frustrated because dead space was such an amazing series it had everything horror games should have horror, sci-fi, action it was like the perfect blend ๐Ÿค– but nope ea just couldn't be bothered anymore and now we're stuck with this huge void left by the franchise's demise. it's like they're abandoning all their fans on purpose ๐Ÿšซ i just don't get it.

and can we talk about how weird it is that they sold off the ip to pay off debt but now they're not even trying to revive it? what's going on here? ๐Ÿ˜‚ did they think the fans would just forget about dead space already? it's like they're trying to erase this beloved franchise from our memories ๐Ÿ’”

man i'm not surprised ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ dead space was always a bit of an underdog compared to other ea franchises but it had such a loyal fanbase ๐Ÿ˜” i mean, who doesn't love a good sci-fi horror game? ๐Ÿš€ maybe this is just a chance for ea to regroup and come back stronger ๐Ÿ’ช instead of giving up on dead space altogether they could try to reboot the franchise with a new team or even spin it off into something entirely different like a tv show or movie ๐Ÿ“บ we've seen how successful horror games can be when given the right treatment so i'm keeping my fingers crossed that ea will find their way back to this beloved series ๐Ÿคž

I don't know what's goin' on with Dead Space, but I think it's kinda weird that EA is just abandoning it like that ๐Ÿค”. Don't get me wrong, I feel for the fans who loved the series, but sometimes things just don't work out, right? ๐Ÿ˜Š Maybe EA was tryin' to make a change and wanted to focus on other projects... I mean, an Iron Man game, who wouldn't want that?! ๐Ÿค‘ But still, it's sad to see a beloved franchise like Dead Space go. On the bright side, Resident Evil and Silent Hill are killin' it right now, so maybe EA is just tryin' to learn from its mistakes ๐Ÿ’ก? Only time will tell if this is a one-time thing or if they'll come back to Dead Space later... ๐Ÿคž

๐Ÿค” I'm so bummed to hear that Dead Space is done for good ๐Ÿšซ. It's like, they just dropped a remake and now it's over? ๐Ÿ˜” The horror genre has been killing it lately with Resident Evil and Silent Hill getting all the love ๐ŸŽฎ. You'd think EA would want to keep its own IPs thriving instead of abandoning them mid-stream ๐Ÿ’ธ. It's like, what even happened with Dead Space 2? Were they gonna make an extended ending? ๐Ÿค” The only way I can see it now is if the new owner is just really strapped for cash and needs to cut costs ๐Ÿ’ธ. Fingers crossed Motive Studio finds a better home for their ideas though ๐Ÿคž

its so sad to see dead space go :( I mean, i loved that game! its like ea just gave up on it and thats really disappointing. horror games are all the rage right now and you would think they would want to keep dead space alive. but i guess we'll never know why they decided to retire it for good ๐Ÿค” maybe they just didn't think it was worth it? or maybe they're trying to cut costs? either way, its a shame because i loved playing as necromorphs and fighting off those creepy creatures ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ’€

man i feel like this is such a cautionary tale for any creator out there... EA had so much potential with Dead Space, but they just couldn't keep it together. it's like they were trying to force something that wasn't meant to be. and now we're left wondering what could've been ๐Ÿ˜”

i think what's really sad here is that horror games are actually doing pretty well right now... Resident Evil and Silent Hill are still going strong, so why did EA have to go and abandon ship on Dead Space? it just goes to show that sometimes you gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em, ya know?

anyway, this whole thing just makes me think about how hard it is for creators to keep their passions alive in the face of adversity... it's easy to get caught up in trying to make something work, but sometimes that just means you gotta let go and move on ๐Ÿ’”
