A Freight Train Derailed in South Deering, but Leaks Were Not a Concern

Four tanker cars derailed in a dramatic accident near 99th Street and Marquette Avenue on Friday afternoon, sending emergency responders scrambling to the scene. According to firefighters from the Chicago Fire Department (CFD), no leaks were reported from the tankers, which left authorities puzzled about what was being transported.

Eyewitnesses captured the chaotic scene through video and photos shared by WGN-TV, showing tanker cars off the tracks with at least one lying on its side. Emergency crews swarmed to the site in response, their presence underscoring the potential risks of the derailment.

Miraculously, neither Metra nor Amtrak operations were affected by the incident, rail agencies that confirmed they had no issues as a result of the accident.
 
You know what's crazy, I was just thinking about how much I love trying new coffee spots when I'm out and about, and I stumbled upon this tiny cafe near my place that serves the most amazing pour-overs 🤩. Anyway, back to the freight train derailment... yeah, it's always nerve-wracking when these things happen, but at least no leaks were reported, right? man I was on my way home from work when I heard about this train derailment 🚂😱 and i'm thinking what kinda stuff are they transporting in those tankers?? like, who takes risks with that kind of cargo around people?! thankfully no leaks but still that's crazy close to a residential area 99th Street is not far from my neighborhood. good thing the emergency crews were there quick so it didn't get outta hand. hope everyone involved is okay 🤞
 
Man, what a close call! I'm glad nobody was hurt, but still, can you imagine if those tanker cars did leak? 🚨💦 That would've been a total disaster. I mean, I know it's not like they were carrying some toxic waste or anything, but still, it's a big deal when trains derail. And the fact that no leaks were reported is just weird, you know? What were they even carrying? Gasoline, oil, something? I hope the authorities can figure out what happened and make sure it doesn't happen again. At least it didn't affect any of our major transportation lines, so we're lucky in that regard 🙏
 
omg this is crazy! i mean, what's being transported on those tankers? authorities are all like "we don't know" and i'm over here thinking "that's kinda concerning"? i get that no leaks were reported but still... tanker cars derailed is bad enough without the mystery of what's inside 🤔. how did the emergency responders not notice anything suspicious, especially since there was a video and photos taken? 📸 shouldn't they have done some kind of check before responding to the scene?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one... I mean, can you imagine being like 10 feet away from a train with all those giant tanks just lying there on their sides? It's crazy! And the best part is, they didn't even leak anything, which is wild considering how volatile those things are. I'm no expert or anything, but it seems to me that having some sort of spill containment system in place would be pretty much a must-have at this point.

Idk how much I trust this story 🤔. They say there were no leaks from the tanker cars but what if the derailed ones weren't supposed to leak? Like, maybe the other ones were and they didn't wanna deal with it 🤑. And what about the tanker cars that were still upright? Were they checked for any damage? I need some more info on this one 📝. Also, why wasn't there a hazmat response team called in ASAP? It just seems kinda weird that no one was injured or contaminated 💦. Can someone get to the bottom of this please? 🚂
 
I'm thinking, what's up with those tanker cars? If it wasn't leaking, then what's in them that could cause so much trouble? Like, I get that accidents happen, but four tankers just derailing like that is crazy! 🤯 I've had my share of DIY disasters, but at least I can see what went wrong.
