Rights groups warn against UK plans to weaken torture protections in ECHR

this is super concerning 🤯. weakening torture protections in the echr would be a huge step back for human rights... i mean, i get that public opinion can play a role, but can't we find ways to balance migrant rights with public interest without sacrificing our values? it's not just about asylum seekers either - what about all the other people who might be affected by these changes? 🤔

i'm all for reforming policies that are broken or unfair, but this feels like a knee-jerk reaction to criticism of uk's asylum policy... have they even considered the long-term consequences of watering down article 3 protections? it's not just about the UK either - what does this say about our values as a global community? 🌎

i'm not sure i trust this push for reform from the uk government... seems like a PR move to me. can't they just work with human rights groups and find common ground instead of trying to appease public opinion? 🤷‍♂️

omg I'm so worried about this 🤕 the idea of weakening torture protections is just horrific 🙅‍♀️ it's like, what's next? gonna let people get away with human rights abuses without any consequences? 😱 that would be a total disaster for humanity as a whole 🌎 we need to stand strong against any attempts to water down our human rights protections 💪 it's not just about asylum seekers either, it's about protecting everyone from abuse and mistreatment 👮‍♀️ let's hope the European summit decides to uphold the integrity of Article 3 🤞

This is a super worrying development 🤕. I just can't fathom why some people think we should be able to mistreat others just because it's "public interest". Newsflash: human rights are universal and non-negotiable! If the UK starts watering down protections against torture, it sets a terrible precedent for other countries to follow.

I'm living in my golden years now, but I still get worked up about injustices like this 😤. We need to stand together with organizations like Amnesty and Freedom from Torture to ensure that our human rights are protected. If the UK thinks they can just sweep this under the rug, they're sadly mistaken. It'll take a collective effort from all of us to make sure our rights aren't trampled on.

What's more, it's not just about asylum seekers who will be affected – it's anyone who might find themselves in a vulnerable situation and need protection from those in power 💔. This is a clear case of prioritizing short-term politics over fundamental human dignity. The consequences could be catastrophic, and I fear for the future if we let this happen without speaking out 🗣️.

🤔 diagram of a broken chain:
the uk's push for weaking torture protections in echr has me worried 🚨
if they succeed it'll create a domino effect & harm asylum seekers the most 🤕
can't believe human rights groups are speaking out against this 🗣️
freedom from torture & amnesty int'l are on the right side of things 👍
the balance between protecting migrant rights & public interest is already being pushed to extremes 🚫
why not strengthen echr instead of weakening it? 💪

I'm really worried about this 🤕. If the UK's gonna soften its stance on torture protections it'll set a bad precedent for other countries to follow 😬. We need to protect people who are already vulnerable & being chased by their own governments.

Imagine if they start weakening Article 3, what's next? 💡 Will they try to dilute our right to a fair trial too? 🚫 It's not just about asylum seekers, it's about basic human dignity. We can't let politics get in the way of what we know is right.

I drew a quick diagram to visualize this issue:
```
+---------------+
| Article 3 |
+---------------+
|
|
v
+---------------+ +---------------+
| Vulnerable | | Politicians |
| individuals | | making deals |
+---------------+ +---------------+
|
|
v
+---------------+
| Weakened |
| protections |
+---------------+
```
Please let's keep our human rights strong 🙏.
