Zohran Mamdani allies launch group to harness grassroots energy of his mayoral campaign

New York City's Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has launched a new non-profit organization called 'Our Time' which aims to harness the grassroots momentum of his successful mayoral campaign. The group, classified as a tax-exempt 501c4 social welfare organization, plans to launch a round of campaign-style door-knocking next weekend to build support for Mamdani's campaign promises, starting with universal child care.

The non-profit was formed by former Mamdani campaign volunteers and its executive director Jeremy Freeman is working to avoid pitfalls similar to those faced by Mayor Bill de Blasio's previous organization 'Campaign for One New York', which was criticized for its fundraising practices.

Our Time plans to conduct its own fundraising, aiming to be more transparent than the law requires, with no donations from entities with business before the city and the names of donors who give more than $1,000 being published on their website.

The group aims to recruit 15,000 volunteers to lobby state lawmakers in Albany and is planning a week of action in January, along with NYS Tenant Bloc, to push for a rent freeze.

Critics are expressing concerns that the new organization may blur the line between Mamdani's campaign and his offshoot, but supporters argue that this grassroots energy will be critical to fulfilling the young democratic socialist leader's lofty goals.

"We're not just organizing, we're also building," said Divya Sundaram, Our Time's deputy executive director. "We want to make sure that Zohran Mamdani can deliver on his promises."

Yaaas this is so cool!!! I love how Our Time is being super transparent about their funding and everything! It's like, we need more organizations doing things right, you know? πŸ™Œ And 15,000 volunteers lobbying for rent freeze in January? That's a whole lotta people making a difference! πŸ’ͺ Zohran Mamdani seems like an awesome leader, and I'm all about that grassroots energy πŸ’• Can't wait to see what Our Time achieves! πŸ‘

just heard about this new org 'Our Time' and idk if its a good idea... dont wanna get caught up in all the drama πŸ˜’. Mamdani's campaign promises sound legit but what happens when it comes to actual execution? i mean, have u seen de blasio's track record on gov? lets not get our hopes up too high πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. anywayz, 15k volunteers sounds like a lotta people to get on board with one guy's agenda... hope they dont lose sight of whats really important πŸ’Έ

Ugh πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ, another politician trying to cash in on their popularity with a non-profit org πŸ˜’. I mean, what's next? A 'Citizens for [insert name]' group just to line the pockets of some rich donors? πŸ’Έ It's like they think we're all just naive and can't figure out the difference between a charity and a slush fund 🀯.

And don't even get me started on the "grassroots momentum" bs 🌿. Just another way to manipulate people into doing their bidding without being held accountable for their actions πŸ‘€. And what's with the "no donations from entities with business before the city"? That's just a fancy way of saying "we'll take all your money, but we won't tell anyone where it came from" πŸ€‘.

I'm not buying it πŸ’Έ. These people are just trying to keep their fingers in every pie they can get their hands on πŸ‘. Mark my words, this Our Time thing is just another example of politicians using "non-profits" as a way to sidestep accountability and enrich themselves at our expense πŸ˜’.

omg I'm low-key hyped for this 🀩 like seriously who doesn't need universal childcare?? I've got two little ones and it's been a struggle trying to find affordable options, I know so many ppl in my building who are barely scraping by πŸ’Έ anyway I'm sure Zohran is gonna make it happen, he seems like the real deal πŸ™ Jeremy Freeman seems super responsible too, like they're actually trying to avoid any sketchy fundraising practices πŸ€” only 15k volunteers needed tho, that's a pretty big ask, but I guess if we wanna see some real change... πŸ’ͺ

Wow 🀩, I think it's so cool that our new Mayor-elect is already thinking about the future after taking office! Universal child care is such a great promise and I'm glad he's starting with something like that. Interesting πŸ’‘, I wonder if he'll be able to keep all his promises, but for now, let's give him some credit for getting started early! 😊

The whole thing feels a bit fishy to me πŸ€”... I mean, it sounds like they're trying too hard to be transparent about their fundraising, which is good and all, but isn't it weird that they're already planning a week of action in January? That's kinda early for a new org, you know? Plus, 15,000 volunteers lobbying lawmakers in Albany seems like a lot. Are they really expecting that many people to show up? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I'm all for grassroots energy, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here... maybe they just need to focus on building trust with the community first? πŸ’―

man I'm so down for this universal child care thing...it makes total sense why they're getting 15k volunteers on board to knock doors & push for a rent freeze 🀝πŸ’ͺ. gotta love how Our Time is setting the bar high with transparency on fundraising, like who wouldn't want to support someone pushing for real change? 😊 gotta respect Divya's vibe too, "we're not just organizing, we're also building"...can't wait to see this grassroots energy make a difference! 🌎πŸ’₯

Omg 🀯 this is so exciting πŸŽ‰πŸ‘! I mean, a non-profit org run by former volunteers πŸ™Œ and aiming for transparency πŸ’‘πŸ‘€? That's like, super refreshing 😊. And 15k volunteers to lobby in Albany πŸ—ΊοΈ? That's no joke 🀣. I'm all about that grassroots energy πŸ’ͺ! Zohran Mamdani seems like a total people person πŸ‘₯ and his campaign promises are def some of the most ambitious ones I've seen in a while πŸ€”. Fingers crossed they can deliver on those promises 🀞. And can we talk about how awesome it is to see more young ppl getting involved in politics 🌟? The future is looking bright! ✨

I'm loving how Our Time is trying to be super transparent with their fundraising πŸ™Œ! Like, they're going above and beyond what the law requires - no donations from entities with business before the city? That's just good governance 😊. And I get why critics are worried about the line between Mamdani's campaign and his offshoot, but if it means building that grassroots momentum to make a real difference, I'm all for it πŸŽ‰! Divya Sundaram is totally right, they're not just organizing, they're also building πŸ’ͺ. And 15,000 volunteers recruiting lawmakers? That's some serious energy πŸ”₯. Fingers crossed they can deliver on those promises πŸ’•.

I'm low-key excited about this new non-profit org 'Our Time' launched by NYC's Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani 🀩. I mean, they're aiming to recruit 15k volunteers and make some real change happen in the city, especially with that universal childcare goal πŸ’Έ. The fact that they're being super transparent about fundraising is a big plus too - no shady donors or sketchy deals πŸ˜’. And it's cool to see former campaign volunteers turn into org leaders πŸ™Œ. My only concern would be how much of a hand-off happens between the campaign and the non-profit, but if anyone can make it work, Zohran Mamdani seems like the man πŸ’ͺ

OMG you guys! 🀯 I think it's a genius move by Zohran Mamdani to create this non-profit org 'Our Time' - it shows he's really committed to making a difference in NYC. The fact that they're planning to be super transparent with their fundraising is, like, totally on point πŸ’Έ. And 15k volunteers? That's crazy! 🀯 I'm all about supporting causes that make a real impact, and this one seems legit πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” So I wonder if a non-profit org like this is gonna be super effective in making a real difference...I mean, they're trying to avoid pitfalls from other campaigns, but 15k volunteers might be a bit of a stretch? 🚧 And how will they balance giving power back to the community with not getting too caught up in campaign mode? 😐 Zohran's got some ambitious plans, and I hope he can make it happen! πŸ’ͺ What do you guys think about universal child care as a priority for NYC? Should we be putting all our eggs in one basket like this? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

idk why ppl are worried bout this new org Our Time πŸ€”. like, it's just a group of ppl trying 2 make a diff, ya feel? Mamdani's got some wild goals and if ppl wanna help him get there, that's cool with me 😊. but i do hope they dont start takin donations from every Tom Dick & Harry in the city πŸ€‘. cant they see how easy it is 2 get taken advantage of?! πŸ’Έ anywayz, im curious bout this universal childcare thing tho πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. if its gonna make a real difference in people's lives, i'm all 4 it 🌟. just hope they dont get too caught up in the politics and lose sight of what's really important πŸ‘₯.
