Canadian teenage swimmer Summer McIntosh breaks another world record | CNN

Sixteen-year-old Summer McIntosh shattered another world record, this time in the 400m individual medley at the Canadian swimming trials on Saturday. The feat marks the second consecutive day she has broken a record, having set the mark for the 400m freestyle just days earlier.

McIntosh's impressive performance saw her finish with a blistering time of 4:25.87, eclipsing the world record previously held by Hungarian swimmer Katinka Hosszú at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The new record now stands at an astonishing 0.49 seconds faster than the previous mark.

The Canadian teenager's remarkable week continues, having broken Ariarne Titmus' defending Olympic champion title in the 400m freestyle just on Tuesday. That swim saw McIntosh shave off a mere 32 seconds from Titmus' previous record, clocking an impressive time of 3:56.08.

When asked about her emotions after her latest triumph, McIntosh was visibly shaken by the roar of the crowd for the first time during competition. The teenager attributed her incredible performance to the support of her family and friends in attendance, who provided a significant boost as she approached the final stretch of the race.

McIntosh's rapid rise to success is a testament to her hard work and dedication under coach Brent Arckey with the Sarasota Sharks team based in Florida. The teenager made her Olympic debut at just 14 years old at Tokyo 2020, where she finished fourth in the 200-meter freestyle event.

Since then, McIntosh has continued to rack up impressive results, including gold medals in the 200m butterfly and 400m medley at the world championships in 2022, as well as two golds at the Commonwealth Games in the 200m and 400m medleys.

omg 🤯 she's literally on fire 🔥! 16 and already breaking records? that's insane! 🤯 i think what's most impressive is her mental game - staying focused under pressure must be super tough, but she seems to be handling it like a pro 💪. and wow, her support system really makes a difference 🙏... love how she gave credit to her coach too 👍. can't wait to see what the rest of her swimming career holds! 🌊💦

idk what's the point of all these record-breaking swims 🤷‍♂️. it's just gonna be some rich kid from canada swimming for fun & getting paid for it 💸. i mean, the girl's got talent, but she's still 16, what does she know about the pressures of actual competition? 🤔 her coach is probably just manipulating her to get more $$$ too 💰 and that crowd's noise is just gonna affect her mental game in big meets 🎧
