Jalen Hurts' career-worst performance is the Eagles' downfall in a crushing 22-19 overtime loss to the Chargers.
In a game marred by turnovers, miscommunications and uncharacteristic play from Philly's offense, Hurts threw four interceptions – all of which changed the complexion of the contest. The first came after he sailed a pass for Jahan Dotson that got tipped off his hands, then picked up by Da'Shawn Hand, who fumbled it to Troy Dye, securing the ball for LA.
Then came another interception, and the Chargers capitalized on a Nakobe Dean strip-sack of Justin Herbert. However, Philadelphia was unable to capitalize on the turnover either, instead repaying with Hurts' fourth pick – one that sealed their fate when he tossed an errant throw over Jahan Dotson's head for a fumble.
For Philly, the damage was extensive; they're now in 8-5, facing a seemingly insurmountable crisis. Their offense had been struggling to find its footing all night and ultimately could not salvage the game at the end.
While the team started strong with an A.J. Brown reception on their first drive, things went downhill right away after that initial play for which Hurts couldn't find Brown. Despite this early setback, Philadelphia came back into the game after a couple of punts and a few other plays. But they never really found any real rhythm throughout the night.
With 10 days of downtime since their last loss, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni was expected to take steps to help turn things around for the offense; however, that optimism didn't translate on Monday night as Jalen Hurts still had trouble with his passing and also dropped some tough passes himself.
