I don't know if I agree that Peter Chan's transition to mainland Chinese production was a good thing for Hong Kong cinema
... at least not initially, anyway. Like, didn't he used to be all about being independent and taking risks? Now it sounds like he's just churning out big-budget blockbusters that cater to the market
. I mean, "Comrades: Almost a Love Story" got mixed reviews from critics, but hey, audiences loved it, so what's wrong with that? It's all about timing, right?
... or is it just about pandering to the masses?
