Bridgerton season four review – fear not nudity fans, the sex scenes continue apace

Netflix's 'Bridgerton' Season 4 is a wild ride that's equal parts Regency romp and trashy soap opera. The show's writers have decided to take the traditional period drama on a merry chase, trading in the stodgy propriety of yesteryear for a world of over-the-top scandals, scandalous affairs, and enough steam to keep the most dedicated fan of bodice-ripping novels satisfied.

Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) is back, and as before, he's more rake than gentleman. However, this time around, his antics are tempered by a glimmer of self-awareness as he tries to rein in his philandering ways for the sake of his family's reputation. Meanwhile, Penelope Bridgerton (Nicola Coughlan) is living her best life as the newest darling of Queen Charlotte, who's determined to turn up the heat on this season's love scene.

The show's commitment to its absurd premise is admirable if not always successful. The costumes and sets are exquisite, but at times they feel like they're trying too hard to outdo their own melodrama. The dialogue can be clunky, and exposition often blocks our view of the action – but then comes a beautifully rendered scene where Sophie (Yerin Ha) confronts her evil stepmother Lady Araminta Gun (Katie Leung), and for one sublime moment, we're transported to a world that's both utterly bonkers and strangely compelling.

Make no mistake: this show is all about the sex. It's raunchy, it's racy, and it's unapologetic. If you were put off by last season's more tamer approach, rest assured that your wildest fantasies have been indulged. Francesca (Hannah Dodd) returns with her muscular husband Lord John, while Michaela (Masali Baduza) brings some much-needed Sapphic heat to the mix.

Overall, 'Bridgerton' Season 4 is a deliciously trashy ride that will leave you gasping for air and begging for more. With its commitment to its absurd premise and its willingness to go all in on its steamy love scenes, this show has become an unlikely guilty pleasure. If you haven't already succumbed to its charms, then fetch another carafe of laudanum, mother – we shall go to the ball!

🤗 I think what really makes 'Bridgerton' Season 4 work is how it leans into its own absurdity. It's like they're winking at you and saying "yeah, we know this is ridiculous, but let's have some fun with it!" The show's not afraid to get a little silly and over-the-top, which actually makes the more dramatic scenes feel even more intense. And can we talk about how fabulous the costumes are? 😍 The way they bring the Regency era to life is just stunning. Maybe I'm biased because I love a good bodice-ripper novel, but there's something so satisfying about seeing all this drama and romance played out on screen. Just be prepared for some cringe-worthy moments – it's not always going to land! 😅

😎 Season 4 is giving me LIFE! Like, I'm not even mad that they're taking the Regency drama and turning it into a soap opera 📺. The costumes are stunning (I mean, who wouldn't want to wear those gorgeous gowns? 👗) but sometimes feel like they're trying too hard to outdo the melodrama 😂. And don't even get me started on the sex scenes – I'm not ashamed to say I've binge-watched them all 🤣. But seriously, the show's commitment to its absurd premise is admirable, and it's amazing how they can balance the drama with some truly beautiful moments... like that confrontation between Sophie and Lady Araminta 💥. It's like they're saying, "Okay, we know this is ridiculous, but let's have fun with it!" 🎉

I'm so intrigued by how 'Bridgerton' Season 4 uses excess as a reflection of our own desires for drama and excitement in life 🤯 The show's willingness to push boundaries and challenge societal norms is like a mirror held up to our own desires for freedom and self-expression. It's wild to think about how something that feels so over-the-top and trashy can also be strangely compelling and even cathartic 😏 But what does it say about us as viewers that we're drawn to this kind of spectacle? Are we craving escapism from the mundanity of our daily lives, or are we simply enjoying the thrill of the forbidden? 💁‍♀️

I'm totally here for the drama and scandals 🤯👀. I love how they're not afraid to get a little weird with the romance and sex scenes. It's like they took all the best parts of a Regency romp and soap opera and mashed them together into one deliciously trashy mess 🍿🔥. The costumes are gorgeous, but sometimes I feel like they're trying too hard to make it feel fancy 💁‍♀️. Still, when the show gets it right, it's magic ✨. I'm so here for Penelope and Sophie's storyline – they need their own spin-off, stat! 👯

🤩 I'm OBSESSED with Season 4 of Bridgerton!!! The way they've taken the classic Regency period drama and turned it into a wild, steamy ride is pure genius 💥. I mean, who doesn't love a good bodice-ripper? 📚 But what really sets this season apart is the way they're not afraid to push boundaries and get a little raunchy 😏. The costumes, sets, and dialogue may have some clunky moments, but honestly, it's all part of the charm 💁‍♀️. And can we talk about the Sapphic heat brought by Michaela? 🔥 It's amazing to see more representation on screen like that! 👯‍♀️ All in all, Bridgerton Season 4 is a must-watch for anyone who loves a good guilty pleasure - it's unapologetically trashy and I am HERE. FOR. IT 💖

omg I'm OBSESSED with season 4 of Bridgerton 🤯 it's like they're taking all the best parts of a soap opera and period drama and putting them into one show. Benedict is back and more charming than ever, but his attempts to change his ways are adorable 😊 and Penelope is just living her best life as queen Charlotte's new BFF 👑

the costumes and sets are insane 🤯 I mean, who wouldn't want to attend a royal ball? 🎉 the dialogue can be clunky at times, but it's so worth it for all the steamy moments 😘 Francesca is back and just as sassy as ever 💁‍♀️ and that Sapphic heat from Michaela is EVERYTHING 🔥

I love how unapologetic the show is about its trashiness 🤣 it's like they're embracing the absurdity of it all. I'm not ashamed to admit I binge-watched the entire season in one weekend 😂 if you haven't checked out Bridgerton yet, what are you even doing with your life? 😉

I'm thoroughly entertained by the unapologetic racyness of 'Bridgerton' Season 4 🤯👀. The show's willingness to push boundaries and indulge in steamy scenes is undeniably captivating, even if it sometimes feels like they're overdoing it with the melodrama 😂. However, when the writing lands right, the result is a deliciously trashy ride that's impossible to look away from 🍿. Benedict Bridgerton's character development is particularly interesting, as his newfound self-awareness adds a layer of complexity to his rakeish antics 👏. Overall, I'm curious to see how the show will continue to balance its absurd premise with some much-needed substance ⚖️.
