Stellan Skarsgård Slams Trump as 'Little Man with Megalomania' over Greenland Annexation Plans
In a scathing critique, Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård has labeled US President Donald Trump's efforts to annex Greenland "absurd" and accused him of exhibiting "megalomania". During a recent appearance at the European Film Awards, Skarsgård told Polish outlet Interia that Trump's actions were "a little man who got megalomania" and would stop at nothing to take control.
Skarsgård's comments follow Trump's threat to purchase Greenland "complete and total" and impose financial tariffs on EU nations deploying troops in opposition. The Swedish actor, who is currently a frontrunner for the supporting actor Oscar for his role in Sentimental Value, likened Trump's behavior to that of a "criminal".
The actor's words echo those of fellow Vikings and collaborators Joachim Trier and Björk, both of whom have also spoken out against Trump's plans. Speaking on social media, Icelandic singer-songwriter Björk expressed sympathy for Greenlanders fighting for independence from Danish colonial rule, warning that the island nation was vulnerable to "another cruel coloniser".
Skarsgård himself has been open about his own struggles with health issues, including a recent stroke, and has recently confirmed that he is working on a potential Mamma Mia! sequel. Despite this, it's clear that he will not hesitate to speak truth to power – or in Trump's case, megalomaniacal ambitions.
