Juvenile charged in Bucks County for October swatting call at Council Rock High School South

A Bucks County teenager has been charged with making a false 911 call about a threat at Council Rock High School South, prompting a 34-minute lockdown and a heavy police response.

In October, the school's emergency services received a call claiming there was a crisis on campus, leading to an immediate lockdown and a massive police presence. However, authorities later determined that the threat was unfounded and students were released from school. The incident is part of a wave of swatting incidents targeting schools across the US.

Swatting is a form of cybercrime where individuals make false emergency calls to law enforcement, often claiming there is an active shooter or other threat at a school or other public place. In some cases, these hoax calls can lead to serious consequences for emergency responders and schools.

The investigation into the incident involved the Northampton Township Police Department, the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, and the FBI. The charges were filed after an investigation found that the juvenile was responsible for making the false call.

"This type of conduct is not only reckless, but it's also a serious threat to public safety," said Jennifer Schorn, the district attorney. "We will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to bring those who engage in this behavior to justice."

The incident highlights the growing concern about swatting incidents targeting schools and other institutions. In recent months, there have been several high-profile cases of swatting at US colleges and universities.

Experts say that swatting is often linked to online groups that carry out false shooter reports and bomb scares in exchange for money. The FBI has declined to comment on the alleged involvement of an online group called Purgatory in the Council Rock High School incident.

Lawmakers are also taking action to address the issue, with some proposing bills to make swatting a felony offense or to create new sentencing enhancements for those convicted of terroristic threats against schools. However, these efforts have been met with skepticism by some lawmakers, who argue that more needs to be done to address the problem.

As one lawmaker noted, "It's absurd that Pennsylvania hasn't made swatting a separate crime." The lack of clear laws and consequences for swatting has left prosecutors relying on federal authorities to pursue charges.

OMG u wont believe wot happnd at this school in Bucks County! Some teen (who sounds like total troll ๐Ÿคก) called 911 saying ther was a crisis on campus & it led to lockdown... but its all fake! Polis got there 2 find out it was just a joke. This is part of these swatting scams thats been goin on in US schools & colleges. Like, wot r ppl even thinkin? Its so reckless & puts everyone at risk. Lawmakrs are tryna make swatting a felony but some dont think its enuf... like, come on ppl! Can't we just make it a law already? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜’

A 34-minute lockdown at a high school because of a false call ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฌ is crazy enough, but it's even crazier when you think about the kid who made that call ๐Ÿ˜ณ. I mean, can't they just chill? ๐Ÿคฏ It's like, what's the point of making an emergency call if you're not gonna follow through on it? ๐Ÿค”

I saw some diagrams online showing how swatting works ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ‘€ and it's pretty wild. The FBI is involved in investigating these things, but they can't cover all bases ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ. I think lawmakers should just make swatting a law already ๐Ÿ‘Ž. It's like, we get it, the kid was reckless, now do something about it ๐Ÿ’ช.

I also saw some stuff online about how this is part of a bigger problem with people making false calls to get attention or money ๐Ÿค‘. Like, what's up with that? Can't we all just coexist peacefully? ๐Ÿค

It's like, schools and law enforcement are always having to deal with these things, and it's not getting any better ๐Ÿ”ฅ. We need to find a way to stop swatting for good ๐Ÿ”’.

Man this is so wild ๐Ÿคฏ like what kind of person makes a call claiming there's an active shooter at their school just to see the reaction? It's not just about them, it's about all the kids and staff who got locked down for no reason, I can imagine how freaked out they must've been ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. And now the kid's facing charges, but is that really enough? Shouldn't we be thinking about why someone would do something so reckless in the first place?

I mean, is it just a cry for attention or something deeper? We should be exploring the root causes of this behavior, like are they struggling with anxiety or something? Because if so, we need to address that instead of just punishing them. And what's the deal with these online groups and their 'swatting' schemes? Are they really willing to put lives at risk for some sick thrill or prize money? ๐Ÿค‘ It's crazy how technology can be both a blessing and a curse.

We should also be thinking about our societal response to this issue, like are we doing enough to educate people on the dangers of swatting and how to report it in a safe way? We need to have a more nuanced conversation about what constitutes a 'crime' and how we can balance punishment with understanding. It's not just about the law, it's about humanity ๐Ÿค.

Ugh, another swatting incident ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜’... I mean, come on, can't these kids just think before they act? 34 minutes is a huge waste of resources, especially for schools that already have so much on their plates. And what's the reward here? Who gets paid to make false emergency calls? It's like some sort of sick game ๐Ÿคช. And don't even get me started on how this affects the real victims - the students and staff who had to go through a lockdown. They're just sitting ducks, waiting for someone else to make another stupid call.

I'm all for taking action against swatting, but let's be real, these kids need consequences that match their reckless behavior ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Making it a felony offense or adding more sentencing enhancements is about time - we can't just wait for lawmakers to figure out what needs to be done. And by the way, why not make swatting a separate crime altogether? It's a clear threat to public safety and yet these kids are still getting off scot-free ๐Ÿ™„.

๐Ÿค• this is so messed up I mean a 34 min lockdown at a school because some kid was bored or trying to get attention? it's just not right... schools should be places where kids feel safe and supported, not places of fear and anxiety.

and what really gets me is that the person who made this call thought they were being clever or funny but all they did was put their classmates and teachers in harm's way. I'm so glad the authorities were able to figure out it was a hoax and everyone was safely released, though.

it's crazy how swatting has become such a thing now, especially with those online groups carrying out these false threats for money. law enforcement needs to crack down on this ASAP so we can start feeling safe again in our schools.

it's time for lawmakers to take action and make swatting a separate crime! no more relying on federal authorities or waiting for unclear laws to be passed... let's get serious about keeping our schools safe ๐Ÿšซ

idk how some teens can be so reckless ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ, making fake 911 calls just for attention or cash lol . schools lockdowns is not something to joke around with, can u imagine the fear students must have had that day ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. and now theres even lawmakers trying to make swatting a felony crime, like its time already ๐Ÿšจ. idk about online groups being involved tho, if its true then that's some serious stuff ๐Ÿ”. anyways, glad justice is being served on this one ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Ugh ๐Ÿคฏ this is so frustrating!!! I mean I get it, people want to have fun online, but swatting is not funny, it's terrifying! 34 minutes locked down the whole school just because some kid made a fake call? That's not just reckless, that's cruel. And now the kid who did it gets to face charges? Not enough ๐Ÿค”. I mean come on, lawmakers, make it a felony offense already! Schools and cops shouldn't have to deal with this nonsense every day. It's time for some serious consequences for people like this ๐Ÿšจ.

I dont get why people would do this ๐Ÿค”. Like, think about all the kids who were scared and trapped in their school for 34 minutes. And for what? So some kid can get a laugh out of it or maybe some money from the FBI ๐Ÿ’ธ? It's just not worth it, you know? The authorities are doing their best to catch these swatters, but we need more laws on the books to stop this nonsense ๐Ÿšซ. I mean, if someone threatens a school, that's a serious crime, no matter what the motivation is. We can't let people get away with putting our kids in harm's way just for some online thrill ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

I mean can you even believe this kid thought it was a good idea to waste everyone's time like that? ๐Ÿคฏ A 34-minute lockdown just because they made up some BS about an active shooter? It's not like the police were going to cancel all their other cases or something. And now we're seeing more swatting incidents happening left and right, it's like people think it's a real thing or something.

And what really gets me is that lawmakers are trying to figure out how to make this stuff a felony offense, but some of them are being super slow to act on it. Like, I get it, laws take time to pass, but come on, this is just common sense. You can't just game the system and expect everyone else to deal with the consequences.

And those experts saying that swatting is linked to online groups? Yeah, no kidding. It's like we've all seen enough videos of people screaming about stuff being real when it's not. Can't these people just use their common sense for once?

The FBI is investigating the connection to Purgatory and I'm sure they'll get to the bottom of it eventually. But in the meantime, can we please just make this a law already? It's time someone took responsibility for all this nonsense. ๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ come on people! making a fake 911 call about a school threat is not just reckless, it's literally life-threatening ๐Ÿšจ. can you imagine the fear and stress the students and teachers must've felt during that 34-minute lockdown? ๐Ÿ˜ท and for what? some kid wanting attention or a thrill? no thanks ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. law enforcement and schools have enough to deal with without these hoax calls taking up their time and resources ๐Ÿ’ป. and yeah, it's crazy that swatting isn't taken more seriously as a crime... maybe if we make it clear that this kind of behavior won't be tolerated, people will think twice before pulling off a prank ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

omg u wont believe what just happend @ Council Rock High School South ๐Ÿคฏ! some 1 makes a false 911 call about a threat & u guess wut? the whole school goes into lockdown ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’ฅ for like 34 minutes!!! can u even imagine how crazy that must be for the kids? ๐Ÿคฏ i mean, its just not cool to do this kinda thing. these swatting incidents r getting outta hand & need to b taken seriously ASAP ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

i think the ppl who make these false calls r just trying 2 get attention or somethin ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ but newsflash: it aint cool & its gonna cause a lot of harm. we gotta do better as a society 2 take care of each other & not play games w/ people's lives ๐Ÿ’”

anywayz, i heard the kid who made this call is in trouble now ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ and i hope they get the help they need. but seriously, ppl need 2 take responsibility 4 their actions & think b4 they make a move ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค• my heart goes out to all those students and staff at Council Rock High School South who had to go through that terrifying lockdown ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฃ. making a false 911 call is just so reckless and irresponsible - can you imagine how scary it must have been for everyone involved?! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ as a parent, it's absolutely appalling that some kids would do something like this and put others in harm's way ๐Ÿ˜ก. I think the authorities are doing a great job of investigating this incident and making sure those responsible face consequences ๐Ÿ’ฏ. let's hope this brings an end to swatting incidents once and for all ๐Ÿ™

Man, this is like, such a wild example of how our online anonymity can lead us down some seriously dark paths ๐Ÿคฏ... I mean, think about it, we're basically hiding behind these screens, pretending to be someone else, and then we go and commit a crime that puts innocent lives at risk? It's just crazy. And the fact that there are these online groups that are like, actively encouraging this kind of behavior, is just, like, so disturbing ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I feel like we're living in a world where our actions online can have real-life consequences, and it's up to us to take responsibility for those actions. But at the same time, I'm also thinking about how hard it must be for these kids to navigate their emotions and find healthy ways to express themselves. It's like, they're already struggling with identity and self-expression, and then you add this layer of online harassment and bullying on top of that... it's just, like, so much pressure ๐Ÿค•. Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that we need to be more mindful of our online actions, and think about the impact they could have on others. It's not just about swatting incidents, it's about creating a culture of kindness and respect in our online spaces ๐Ÿ’–.

๐Ÿค• my heart goes out to those students who had to deal with the stress & anxiety of a fake lockdown... it's just so reckless & irresponsible to do something like that ๐Ÿšซ. I mean, can you even imagine how scary it must've been for them? ๐Ÿคฏ and now they're facing charges too... it's just not right ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ.

I think the problem with swatting is that it's not just about individual behavior, but also about the larger online culture that enables this kind of nonsense ๐Ÿ“ฑ. We need to create more accountability & consequences for those who engage in this behavior, and we need to support our schools & law enforcement in keeping everyone safe ๐Ÿ”’.

It's also time to rethink our laws & policies around swatting... maybe it's time for a new bill that makes it a felony offense ๐Ÿค. I know some lawmakers are skeptical, but I think it's high time we took this issue seriously ๐Ÿ’ช.

omg u guys ๐Ÿคฏ, i cant even believe this 16 year old made a false call about a threat at his school & it got everyone freaked out ๐Ÿ˜ฑ... like what was he thinking?!?!!1!1! the lockdown for 34 mins is crazy ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ, and now hes gonna be charged w/ making a false 911 call? ๐Ÿค” good riddance imo ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm literally so disappointed in this kid ๐Ÿค•. Like, 34 minutes of lockdown? That's insane! And what really gets me is that it was all a lie ๐Ÿ˜ก. I mean, can you imagine if the cops had responded like that to a real emergency? It would've been a total disaster. And now he's gonna face charges? Good for him ๐Ÿ’ฏ. But seriously, this kind of behavior needs to stop. Swatting is not funny or harmless, it's a serious threat to public safety ๐Ÿšจ. We need to take action and make sure our schools and emergency responders are protected from these kinds of hoax calls ๐Ÿ”’.

omg can you even believe this? some teenager is going to put their whole school on lockdown because they couldn't handle the stress ๐Ÿคฏ like what even is that? schools should be safe spaces, not playgrounds for cyberbullies ๐Ÿ’” these swatting incidents are getting out of hand and it's so frustrating that lawmakers aren't doing more to address this problem yet ๐Ÿ™„
