Louvre hikes ticket prices for most non-EU tourists | What to know

Paris, France - One of the world's most visited museums is making a significant shift in its ticket pricing policy. As of Wednesday, non-EU tourists face a 45% price hike at the Louvre Museum, with admission fees rising from €22 to €32 ($26 to $37) for individual visitors. The change is part of a national "differentiated pricing" policy being implemented across major cultural sites in France.

The new structure will see non-European visitors pay the higher rate, while citizens or residents of EU countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway will continue to enjoy discounted admission rates. Guided groups will also be subject to the new pricing tiers, with tours capped at 20 people to maintain the quality of the visit.

The Louvre has cited a range of factors for the price increase, including repeated strikes by workers, chronic overcrowding, and the high-profile theft of French Crown Jewels earlier this year. The heist, which saw thieves make off with €88 million ($102 million) worth of jewels, has raised questions about how France protects its most prized cultural treasures.

The museum's administration has argued that the new pricing policy will help finance investment in a modernization project, known as "Louvre - New Renaissance," aimed at restoring and upgrading the historic building. The expected influx of €15-20 million ($16-22 million) per year is seen as a significant boost to the institution's finances.

However, French worker unions have strongly opposed the policy change, arguing that it undermines the Louvre's universal mission and turns access to culture into a commercial product. They claim that visitors should carry a bigger share of the cost of maintaining these iconic landmarks.

The strike in June, which delayed the museum's opening and left thousands of visitors stranded, was a recent manifestation of worker grievances over issues such as overcrowding, understaffing, and deteriorating working conditions. The heist and concerns about France's cultural heritage have galvanized unions to continue their campaign for change.

As one of Europe's most iconic museums, the Louvre is under increasing pressure to balance its commitment to preserving its rich collections with the financial realities of operating a popular tourist destination.

omg, can't believe they're hiking ticket prices at the louvre 💸🎨! i get it, overcrowding and strikes are real issues, but 45% is kinda steep 🤯. wonder if they could've found other ways to fund the renovation project without affecting tourists 😕. french worker unions have valid points tho - shouldn't art be for everyone? 🤝 #LouvreRevolution #CulturalEquityMatters

just went to lovre yesterday and omg €32 ticket price is insane 🤯🚫 i feel bad for eu citizens who have to pay lower rate tho 🤷‍♀️ anyway, i think the louvre needs some renovation work tho its been the same since i was a kid 👀 what do u guys think about this new pricing policy? should they make it free or charge more? let me know in comments below 💬

🤔 I mean, €22 to €32? That's still pretty reasonable if you ask me. They're basically just hiking up prices to match what other countries are charging. I don't think it's too bad for non-EU tourists considering the quality of exhibits and history behind the Louvre... 🏛️

I'm thinkin' this new ticket price thingy at the Louvre is gonna be a big deal for tourists. 45% more expensive? That's a pretty penny. 🤑 I can see why they're doin' it, though - all that strikes and overcrowding must've taken a toll on their budget. But, on the other hand, I feel bad for EU visitors who are gonna get stuck payin' full price while others get off scot-free. It's like, what's the point of havin' universal access to culture if you're just gonna charge 'em through the nose? 🤔 And don't even get me started on them guided tours... 20 people max? That sounds kinda restrictive. I hope it works out for 'em in the long run, but right now I'm a bit skeptical about this whole thing. 😐

I FEEL BAD FOR THE WORKERS AT THE LOUVE, THEY'RE ALREADY STRUGGLING WITH LOW WAGES AND LONG HOURS 🤕. IT'S NOT FAIR THAT EU CITIZENS GET A FREE PASS TO VISIT WHILE NON-EU TOURISTS HAVE TO shell OUT MORE DOLLARS 💸. I UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR FUNDING, BUT CAN'T WE FIND OTHER WAYS TO DO IT WITHOUT HITTING THE POOR TOURISTS IN THE POCKET? 🤔

🤔😅 why pay 45% more just to see some old paintings and dusty stuff? 🖼️💸

🚫👎 France, you're gonna have to do better than that if you wanna keep those EU tourists coming back! 😒

🏰💨 "Louvre - New Renaissance"... sounds like they're just trying to make the Louvre more Instagrammable 📸🔥

🤷‍♂️ Who needs €88 million worth of Crown Jewels when you can have a decent Wi-Fi connection? 😂

I'm kinda mixed on this 🤔. On one hand, €32 is still pretty reasonable considering it's one of the most famous museums in the world 😊. But at the same time, I can see why they wanna charge non-EU tourists more - all those visitors gotta be supported somehow 💸. And let's not forget about the strike and worker issues 🤕... it's like, we get that France wants to upgrade its museum, but can't we just find a way to make it work for everyone? 🤝 I mean, €15-20 million per year is a decent chunk of change 💸. Guess we'll have to wait & see how this new policy plays out 👀

omg u gotta feel 4 da louvre museum right now 🤯 they're makin it super expensive for non-eu tourists (45% price hike 🤑) which is kinda harsh, if u ask me. i get that they wanna invest in a modernization project & all 💼 but c'mon, dont make it so hard 4 us to enjoy da culture! 🎨🖌️ france is like, super famous for its art & history, u think we're just gonna be deterred by a few euros more? 🤑 anywayz, worker unions r right on dis one, visitors shd carry a bigger share of da cost 🤝 guess dat's da pros & cons of tourism 💸

Omg what's up with this new pricing policy 🤯? I'm planning to visit Paris soon and I was really looking forward to going to the Louvre for free 😔. 45% increase is kinda steep, especially since we non-EU tourists are already paying a premium. And what's up with the strike thingy? Can't they just, like, get along 🤷‍♀️? It's not like I'm trying to steal the Crown Jewels or anything 💎... I just wanna see some art and learn stuff 🤓. Is it true that the museum is renovating? I've seen pics of the new Louvre - New Renaissance project and it looks super cool 😍... but at what cost, right?

I feel like they're gonna lose tourists now 🤔. 45% price hike is huge! I remember last year I visited with my family and we had to wait in line for hours just to get inside. It's already overpriced as it is, but adding that much extra on top of the €22 ticket? Forget about it 🤑. And it's not like they're giving visitors more bang for their buck or anything - they're just making it harder for people outside Europe to experience the museum. I get why they want to fund the renovation, but is it really worth driving away potential visitors? 🤷‍♂️

I'm totally against this new ticket pricing policy at the Louvre Museum 🤔💸 but like, on the other hand, I think it's kinda fair that non-EU tourists should pay more since they're not from Europe and all 😐👀 I mean, it's not like we're asking them to come over here for free or anything... or am I? 🤑 Wait, no I don't think so! 🙅‍♂️ That would be unfair. But at the same time, €22 is a pretty cheap price to start with, you know? 🤷‍♂️ It's not like they're making bank off of us EU tourists or anything... unless we are, and that's not cool 😎.

I'm low-key salty about this new ticket pricing policy at the Louvre 🤔💸. 45% price hike for non-EU tourists? That's steep, fam! I get that they wanna make some extra cash to fund those modernization plans, but it feels like they're prioritizing tourism over accessibility. As a fan of history and art, I'd love to see more inclusive pricing options that don't penalize visitors from all over the world 😊. And can we talk about how this is gonna affect solo travelers or budget-conscious folks who just wanna learn? It's def not gonna make the Louvre feel any less exclusive 🚫💔.

so the louvre just raised ticket prices by 45% for non-eu tourists 🤯💸 it's kinda harsh on visitors from other countries who come to experience french culture and history

the new policy aims to fund a modernization project called "louvre - new renaissance" which sounds like a fancy renovation plan 🏢🎨 but some worker unions are not happy about it and think it'll make museums more commercialized

i'm all for supporting local workers and artists but at the same time, i get why they need to raise prices to stay afloat 💸👍 what do you guys think? should museums be more accessible or can they charge higher fees if they're struggling financially?

here's a simple diagram to illustrate the situation:
```
+---------------+
| Tourist |
| (non-eu) |
+---------------+
|
| €22 -> €32
v
+---------------+
| Visitor |
| (eu citizen)|
+---------------+
|
| no change
v
+---------------+
| Worker |
| (union rep)|
+---------------+
```
anyway, that's my two cents on the louvre ticket price hike 🤔👀

I don't usually comment but... I think it's weird that they're making non-EU tourists pay more just because they're not from Europe 🤔. I mean, what's next? Charging Americans more than Canadians or Europeans for visiting the same museum? It seems like a pretty arbitrary rule to me 😕. And honestly, I feel bad for all the families and students who are gonna be stuck paying €10 extra per person just because they're not from the EU 💸. The Louvre is supposed to be about sharing culture with everyone, not just charging more for the people we already know we can trust to support it 😔

I don’t usually comment but... I think it’s kinda weird that they're raising prices on non-EU tourists and making them pay more just because France wants to spend some cash on their "Louvre - New Renaissance" project 🤔. It seems like they're treating EU visitors like VIPs, which doesn't seem right to me. The Louvre is a cultural institution, not a fancy hotel or theme park where you can just shell out more cash for a better experience 💸.

I mean, I get that the museum's getting slammed with tourists and stuff, but I'm pretty sure they can handle it without raising prices on everyone 😬. And what really gets me is that they're saying this will help fund the "Louvre - New Renaissance" project... like, isn't that just a fancy way of saying they want to make more money off us non-EU visitors? 🤑 It's all about the benjamins, I guess 💸.

I'm not sure what the solution is here, but raising prices on non-EU tourists seems like a pretty short-sighted move in my book 🤷‍♂️. Maybe they should try finding some other ways to fund their renovation plans, like crowdfunding or something 🌟. Just saying... 😊

im thinking the louvre is trying to get creative with its pricing 😊 but 45% hike might be a bit steep for some tourists 🤯 i mean, i love art and history as much as anyone but €32 seems like a lot even for us loyal platform users 💸 what's next? increasing ticket prices for our monthly subs too? 😂 seriously though, the whole thing is just another example of how tourism can be tough on local resources 🌳

im curious about this new policy at the louvre... 45% price hike sounds steep 🤑 but i guess its all about finessing the "differentiated pricing" system 🤔 and making sure those historic sites keep up with modern demands 💸 what do u think? should visitors from other countries be footing more of the bill or is it a matter of maintaining these cultural hotspots for everyone? 🌐

omg, you guys! 😱 the louvre is like, totally changing its ticket pricing policy and it's gonna be super pricey for non-eu tourists 🤑👀 I mean, who can afford €32 ($37) to see the Mona Lisa? 🤔 but at the same time, i get why they gotta do this 💸, all that money is needed to make those renovations and keep the museum running smoothly 💪 #DifferentiatedPricing #LouvreChanges #MuseumLife
