Red Bull F1 adviser Helmut Marko retires after successful 20-year stint

Red Bull Formula One advisor Helmut Marko is hanging up his boots after two decades of success, bringing an end to a storied 20-year stint. The 82-year-old Austrian's departure leaves Red Bull with a void left by the loss of its two primary guiding lights in the team's F1 journey.

Since joining the team in 2005, Marko has been instrumental in shaping the careers of Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen into four-time world champions. His influence extends beyond just racing strategy, however, as he played a pivotal role in guiding drivers through junior series to F1 debuts with Red Bull's second team.

Marko's decision to step down comes on the heels of a disappointing season for Verstappen, who narrowly missed out on securing his fifth consecutive title at Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The 82-year-old expressed that this year's championship loss has made him realize it is time for him to bring an end to his long and intense chapter.

Throughout his tenure, Marko was known for his blunt style and tendency to criticize drivers when necessary, often sparking controversy. He even apologized in 2023 after making comments that suggested Sergio Pérez's heritage was responsible for inconsistent results on the track.

Despite his controversies, Marko has been an invaluable asset to Red Bull, overseeing its driver development program over two decades. He guided numerous young drivers through various junior series before sending them off into F1 with Red Bull. Notable graduates of this program include Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, who underperformed alongside Verstappen this season.

As Marko takes on a new chapter in his life, another young driver has been promoted to take over the reins – Isack Hadjar. While Marko's departure leaves a void in Red Bull's leadership, it remains to be seen whether the team will be able to replicate its previous success without their longtime guiding hand.

man I'm sad to see marko go 🤕 he was definitely one of the key guys behind red bull's success with vettel and verstappen but you have to respect his honesty, even if it was sometimes brutal 💪 his departure leaves a big hole in the team, especially with this season being kinda underwhelming 🤔 now they gotta find another way to get their drivers to shine 👀 isack hadjar seems like a good choice tho, let's see how he does 💥

man i feel sad for red bull lol theyre gonna miss marko so much he was like a mentor to verstappen and verstappen did amazing with him 😂 but at the same time it makes sense that marko wants to retire now he's 82 and all that... anyway i think its cool how marko started this whole driver development program for red bull it brought out some talented drivers like liam lawson 🤩 but now they gotta find someone new who can fill markos shoes or something idk lol isack hadjar sounds like a cool name tho 😎

man thats crazy 🤯 82 years old still running the show and now he's hanging up his boots after two decades of domination 🏆 what did we expect from a guy who helped turn Seb Vettel into 4 time world champ? 😂 Marko was always known for speaking his mind, but that was part of the charm right? The drama and controversy were all part of the package when you watched Red Bull F1. now it's up to Isack Hadjar to fill those big shoes 🤞 wish him luck, he's got some big cleats to fill 👣

🤔 Just thinkin' about this makes me sad 😔 Helmut Marko was like a grandfather to those young drivers, taught them everything they know 🙏 Can't believe he's hangin' up his boots after 20 years of contributin' so much to Red Bull 💪 He may have been rough around the edges, but at the end of the day, he wanted what was best for the team and the drivers 👍

🤔 I'm gonna miss Helmut Marko, no doubt about that 😊. Two decades of success is a huge deal, and he played a massive role in shaping the careers of Vettel and Verstappen into world champs 🏆. But, can't help but think he was a bit too harsh on drivers at times... I mean, who needs that kind of criticism? 😅 Still, you gotta respect his dedication and contributions to Red Bull's driver development program - it's helped launch the careers of some talented young drivers 👍.

Now that Marko's hanging up his boots, it'll be interesting to see if Red Bull can find someone who can fill his shoes 🙃. Isack Hadjar's the new kid on the block, and I'm curious to see how he'll do 🤔. Time will tell if they can replicate their past success without Marko's guidance 👀.

😱💔 Marko's retirement is a big loss for Red Bull F1! 🚗💨 He brought so much to the team over 20 years - not just winning championships, but also developing young talent like Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda 🤝🏽👍. His blunt style might've ruffled some feathers 🙅‍♂️, but you can't deny his impact on the sport 🌟. Now it's up to Isack Hadjar 👦 to fill Marko's shoes - wish him luck! 💪🏽⚡

😐 I'm a bit sad to see Helmut Marko go... he's definitely been an iconic figure in F1 for years 🏎️. His blunt style can be tough on drivers, but you can't deny his track record of producing top-notch talent 👍. Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda are two examples of young drivers who had promising starts with Red Bull before struggling to find consistency 💔.

Marko's influence goes beyond just racing strategy – he's helped shape the careers of Vettel and Verstappen into world champions 🏆. It'll be interesting to see how Isack Hadjar fills Marko's shoes, but I think it's safe to say there are big boots to fill 👠.

omg i feel bad for isak hajar lol he got chosen from nowhere!! but on a serious note, i think marko's departure is gonna be huge for red bull, they lost a major piece of their puzzle... i mean, vettel and verstappen are legends now, but who's gonna take care of the young guns? 🤔💨 i hope they find someone who can fill marko's shoes, 'cause that program was the real deal! 🙌

I'm not gonna lie 🤔, I think it's a bit weird that everyone's making such a big deal about Helmut Marko stepping down. Like, he was always gonna do something eventually, right? 😏 He's 82, what did you expect? Anyway, the real question is, how's Red Bull gonna handle this transition? They're not exactly known for their adaptability 🤯... and let's be real, Verstappen's season wasn't exactly his finest hour 🙅‍♂️. Maybe it's time for them to take a long hard look at themselves and figure out what's really going on behind the scenes 💭.

I'm gonna miss that old dude 😊. Twenty years is a long time, especially when you're still racing at 82! He was a big part of Red Bull's success, and it's sad to see him go 🙏. I mean, he wasn't always the most popular guy in F1, but you gotta admit, he got results 💪. The kid who takes over now is gonna have some big shoes to fill 👠. Will they be able to replicate that magic? Only time will tell 🔮.

omg can u believe marko is finally hanging up his boots?! 😱 20 yrs of greatness & he's just gonna step away? like what's next for rb? 🤔 i got some doubts about this new guy, hadjar or watever...i think they need someone with more experience than that. anyway, gotta respect marko for speaking his mind & being real even if it meant ruffling a few feathers 👊

Ugh, finally 🙄! The F1 world is about to lose another piece of its soul with Marko's retirement 🕰️. I mean don't get me wrong, the guy was a genius on track but his blunt style was so cringeworthy at times 😳. I still can't forget that controversy with Sergio Perez in 2023... like, what is going on here?! 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, it's sad to see Red Bull lose their driver development guru but Isack Hadjar better bring the heat or else 👊!

man... 20 yrs is a loooong time 🤯. helmut marko was definitely a big part of red bull's f1 success, but i dunno if that blunt style of his was always gonna work in the long run 😅. some ppl love him for it, others hate him, but u gotta respect his dedication & influence on those drivers 💪 sebastian vettel & max verstappen are both legends now 🙌. its sad to see marko hang up his boots, but i guess thats life, right? ⏰ new kid on the block isak hadjar better bring the heat or red bull's gonna be stuck in neutral 😐

idk how much this is gonna affect red bull's racing career lol they've had other ppl doin the job 4 years now & dey still managed 2 get good results 🤔. marko was more of a figurehead than a real team advisor if u ask me, most of his "strategy" was just giving vettel/verstappen advice on how 2 drive not exactly rocket science 😒. anyway, marko's retirement is old news, let's see who else dey got lined up 2 fill his shoes 🕰️

"I think you can't separate the man from the myth." 😏 The question now is, who'll fill the shoes of Helmut Marko? 🤔 Will Red Bull find another advisor with a similar track record of producing F1 champions or will it take some time to rebuild? Only time will tell. ⏰

🤔 So I'm thinking, Marko might've gotten a bit too old for this F1 thingy... I mean don't get me wrong, he's a legend and all, but 82 is getting up there! 💪 And yeah, controversy was part of the package when you're dealing with superstars like Verstappen. But at the same time, you gotta respect the man's track record - that driver development program has sent some amazing young guns to F1 over the years 🚀. Now it's gonna be interesting to see how Red Bull handles without Marko's guidance... will they find another genius like him or will it take a while? ⏰

😕 The F1 world just lost an iconic piece of history... Helmut Marko was more than just an advisor, he was like a father figure to those young drivers. I mean, who else could make you laugh one minute and roast you the next? 😂 It's crazy to think that Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda are now driving for other teams, when they were once groomed by Marko himself.

Marko's blunt style was always entertaining, but also sometimes hurtful. I do wish he'd apologized sooner in 2023, though - that comment about Sergio's heritage just seemed... unnecessary 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, Isack Hadjar is up next? 🤔 Fingers crossed the team can find a new Marko-wannabe to whip into shape...

I remember when Marko first joined Red Bull back in 2005. He was this mysterious, older gentleman who nobody really knew much about... and then suddenly, we had four world championships on our hands! 🏆 What's next for the team? Will they be able to recapture some of that old magic without their beloved Marko at the helm? Only time will tell... 🕰️

man this is sad news 🤕 i feel like red bull is losing part of their identity w/ marko stepping down he was always so honest & brutal about his thoughts which kept drivers on their toes, but at the same time u gotta respect that he helped create some legends in f1 🙌 i'm curious to see how isack hadjar will do in this role tho
