Ritz Crackers Recalled In Eight States Over Peanut Allergy Threat

Dozens of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches have been recalled after thousands of individually wrapped packs were mistakenly labeled as the cheese variety, posing a risk to peanut allergy sufferers. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that 70 cases had been taken off store shelves in eight states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Alabama.

The mislabeled products, which are sold in 20-pack units with six-piece sleeves, have "best when used by" dates of January 8 and January 15, 2026, and an 'AE' plant code on top of the package. Despite being properly labeled with allergen information that says they contain peanuts, the mislabeling has raised concerns.

Fortunately, no injuries or illnesses have been reported as of November 28, according to Mondelēz Global, the parent company of Ritz. The affected products were available at a limited number of retail stores starting on November 28.

The recall is a timely reminder of the importance of food labeling and allergen safety. Peanut allergies are a growing concern in the US, with approximately 4.6 million Americans affected by this life-threatening condition, according to a study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in 2021.

Retailers who sold the affected products have been notified and are working to remove them from store shelves as quickly as possible. Consumers who purchased the recalled products should check their packaging for the 'AE' plant code and contact Mondelēz Global if they have any concerns.

just heard about this Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwich recall 🤯 like what's the point of labeling them as peanuts if the design looks different from the cheese ones tho? it's like, why not just make them look similar to avoid confusion altogether? 😂 anyway, super glad no one got sick yet, but still super annoyed that these people messed up so badly 🙄

🤯 just great, more people die from peanut allergies because some genius labels a peanut butter cracker as cheese... how hard is it to get that right? 🙄

omg this is crazy 🤯 like what even is the point of having an allergen label on a peanut butter cracker sandwich if you're just gonna mislabel it as cheese anyway?? 🙄 i mean i get that mistakes happen but like 70 cases being pulled from shelves in like 8 states? that's not okay. food safety should be top priority, esp for people with life threatening allergies 🤕. its times like these that make me think we need to rethink our supply chain and production processes so this doesn't happen again 😩. anyone know how they're gonna prevent this from happening in the future??

🤔 this recall is like a wake-up call for all of us - it's easy to overlook the tiny details, especially when we're in a rush or distracted 📣. but peanut allergies are no joke, folks! 4.6 million people are counting on us to be vigilant and prioritize their safety 🙏. what can we learn from this? well, for one, double-check those labels before buying (or consuming) 📝, and secondly, never assume that just because a product looks or smells right, it's safe for everyone 🤦‍♀️. food labeling is crucial, and we all have to be part of the solution 💪.

Ugh, great job by the FDA for finally taking action on this one! 🙄 I mean, it's about time someone caught those sneaky labeling mistakes before anyone got hurt. Those peanut allergy sufferers must've been literally sitting ducks waiting for their Ritz crackers to turn into a fatal snack attack. And let's be real, 70 cases isn't even that bad... like, what's the point of having a recall if it's just gonna be a drop in the bucket? Anyway, I'm sure all those retailers who sold the tainted products are super chill about having their shelves cleared out. 🙃

Ugh, another food recall 🤯... I mean, seriously though, how does this happen? Thousands of packs of peanut butter cracker sandwiches get mixed up with cheese ones? It's just lazy labeling, you know? They say no injuries or illnesses have been reported yet, but what about long-term health effects? A study from 2021 says around 4.6 million Americans are living with peanut allergies... shouldn't they be doing more to ensure the safety of their products? And retailers are supposed to just take the products off shelves without checking for specific codes on packaging? Come on!

🤦‍♂️ Just got a recall alert on my phone about those Ritz peanut butter crackers... like, I'm good with peanuts but I'm also super cautious when it comes to food allergies 🤝. The fact that thousands of packs were mislabeled is wild - what if someone had an allergic reaction thinking they were getting cheese? 😬 It's crazy how some companies can mess up something as simple as labeling... anyway, on the bright side, no one got hurt so far 💕. Retailers are working hard to get those products off store shelves ASAP, which is a big relief 🙌. We need more awareness about food allergies and safety, for sure! 👍

🤦‍♀️ Like, can you believe this? Someone messed up on a massive scale! They made peanut butter cracker sandwiches that could've given people a serious allergic reaction just because they didn't pay attention to the labeling 🤦‍♂️. It's crazy how many people got affected - 70 cases is a lot, especially considering there are 4.6 million Americans with peanut allergies already 😱. And it's not like this was an isolated incident, either - these mislabeled packs were sold in multiple states 🗺️. The fact that no one got hurt yet is definitely a positive note, but still...it's just so frustrating when food safety is compromised like this 💔. Retailers are on the ball now and removing them from shelves ASAP, so kudos to them for taking action 😊.
