Local Man Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run After High-Speed Crash Near East Downtown
A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter after a high-speed crash that killed a pedestrian near East Downtown over the weekend. Enrique Acevedo Barocio, who was behind the wheel of a blue Ford Expedition, lost control of his vehicle while traveling at a high rate of speed on Pierce Street around 11:30pm Sunday.
According to authorities, the victim, a 32-year-old woman, was attempting to cross the road after leaving a nearby club when Barocio's vehicle struck her and several parked cars. The Houston Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead upon arrival.
Further investigation revealed that Barocio showed signs of intoxication, having left another club before the crash. Police report that he was seen operating his vehicle in a state of impaired ability.
Barocio was taken into custody by the Harris County Sheriff's Office after being consulted with the Harris County District Attorney's Office. He is currently facing charges of intoxicated manslaughter and is being held at the Harris County Jail, where he will await further proceedings.
