Take That review – could it be TV magic? Yes!

Take That's New Documentary Offers a Refreshingly Unembittered Retelling of Their Story

The veteran boyband is back with a new Netflix series that offers an unapologetically candid look at their 35-year journey. The documentary, directed by David Soutar, features never-before-seen archive footage and intimate interviews with Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald.

While not exactly a revelatory exposé, the series does provide valuable insights into the band's highs and lows, from their early days of teenage hysteria to their record-breaking string of No 1 hits. The behind-the-scenes look at their reunion is particularly compelling, showcasing the group's enduring chemistry and camaraderie.

The documentary's strengths lie in its refreshingly unembittered tone, which sets it apart from Robbie Williams' more scathing Netflix series last year. The filmmakers avoid rehashing old rivalries or dramatic conflicts, instead opting for a straightforward narrative that allows the viewer to appreciate the band's journey without baggage.

One of the most striking aspects of the documentary is its use of archive footage, which adds a layer of nostalgia and depth to the story. From excruciating school assembly gigs to candid youthful hijinks, the material is both poignant and entertaining.

While some may find certain segments – particularly those focused on Gary Barlow's peculiar behavior towards his bandmates – slightly cringe-worthy, they ultimately add to the documentary's humanizing effect. The filmmakers' decision to showcase these moments without sensationalism or embarrassment serves as a testament to their respect for the band members and their art.

Ultimately, Take That (the series) offers an endearing tribute to a band that has endured despite – and because of – their ups and downs. As the documentary concludes, we're reminded that our shared experiences with the band have been both difficult and magical. Here's to many more years of their music – and perhaps, just maybe, another helping of cauliflower cheese.

I'm so down for this docu - it's like a warm hug from Gary, Mark, and Howard! I love how they're not trying to stir up drama or create some 'feud' narrative. It's all about the music, their journey, and the chemistry between them. The archive footage is genius - it adds such a layer of nostalgia and humanity to the story. And can we talk about Gary's quirks for a sec? 😂 They're so endearing! I'm not gonna lie, some parts might be cringe, but that's part of what makes it feel real and relatable. It's like they're sharing their own private thoughts and feelings with us, and that's super special. Can't wait to binge-watch this and jam out to some old Take That faves 🎵

I love how it doesn't get too heavy on the drama & instead focuses on their journey, you know? #TakeThatForever 🙌 The archive footage is everything – it's like we're right there with them in the 90s and early 2000s 🤯 Gary's behavior might be a bit weird but I think that's part of his charm lol. I'm excited to see what they do next & I'll def be re-watching this docu over & over #TakeThatSeries #BoybandLegends 💖

I'm low-key obsessed with Take That right now 🤩. Their doco is so refreshing, you know? It's like they're not even trying to be dramatic or anything 😂. They just share their story in a super humble way. I love how it highlights the ups and downs they've been through - from that crazy school assembly gig 🤣 to Gary being super awkward with his bandmates 🙈. But you know what? It's all part of their charm. The archival footage is also so cool, brings back nostalgic vibes for sure. Anyway, if you're a fan like me, you gotta check it out 👍.

I'm so glad they didn't make Take That into a diva fest 🙌. The doc is all about them being genuine and humble, it's really refreshing 💕. Gary's weirdness is actually kinda endearing 😂, not cringy at all! It's great to see the band embracing their past and being proud of what they've achieved 🎉.

meh, i guess it's nice that Take That is getting a doco after all these years... 35 years is kinda crazy lol. i do love how they're showing off that archive footage tho 📹👀, that's some nostalgic gold right there! but seriously, the fact that they're being super chill and not making it all about drama is super refreshing. like, we get it, you guys are Take That, you've been through a lot, but can we just have some peace now? 😂 anyway, i'm kinda excited to watch this, mostly because of Gary's behavior towards his mates... btw, did anyone else know he was like that in the early days? 🤣

OMG 🤩 I'm so down for this new Take That doc on Netflix!! 😁 The fact that they're doing it in a super relaxed way without all the drama is like, totally refreshing! 👏 Gary's weird behavior towards Mark and Howard is kinda cringey but at the same time it shows how close-knit they really are. 🤝 I loved the archive footage too - it was like taking a trip down memory lane. 😆 Did you guys watch Robbie Williams' doc last year? It was so intense 🙅‍♂️ how different this one is!

OMG, you won't believe what I just read about Take That's new docu 🤯! It's like, they're being super open and honest about their whole journey, but without all the drama and shade 😒. I'm not saying it's a total snooze fest or anything, but can we talk about how Gary Barlow's behavior towards his bandmates is kinda... weird? 🤔 Like, what's up with that? And don't even get me started on the archive footage - it's like a time capsule of teenage awkwardness 😂. But for real though, I'm glad they're doing this docu to share their story without all the negativity. It's like, they're showing us that even with all the ups and downs, they've still got that special chemistry 💕. And let's be real, who doesn't love a good dose of nostalgic Take That goodness 🎉?

you know what's weird I was watching this vlog about 90s fashion trends the other day and it got me thinking about how much my sister loved Take That back in the day 🤣 she still has that one autographed poster somewhere... anyway, speaking of posters have you guys tried those new reusable ones made from plant-based materials? 🌿💚 they're so cool and good for the environment too! what's your take on retro fashion trends do you think we'll see a comeback of neon colors and high-waisted jeans anytime soon? 😂

I'm so down for this docu 🤩. 35 yrs of Take That's journey is a wild ride & I love how they kept it real no drama 💯. Gary's weirdness aside 😂, the whole thing feels like a big ol' hug from the lads themselves ❤️. The archival footage is straight fire 🔥 and adds this nostalgic layer to the story that's hard to resist 📚. Plus, the fact they didn't go all Hollywood on it & just kept it low-key is super refreshing 😎. I mean, who doesn't love a good ol' band reunion drama-free 🤪? The stats don't lie tho: 35 yrs of hits = 700M+ streams on Spotify alone 📈. Not bad for the Take That crew! 👍

🌟 I'm so down for this docu-series on Take That! The fact that it's all about their journey without any drama or bitterness is a breath of fresh air 🙏. It's like Gary Barlow himself said (just kidding, he didn't 😂), but seriously, the way they've captured those candid moments from back in the day is pure gold 💃. I'm loving how it's more about their music and chemistry than any behind-the-scenes beefs 🤝. Can't wait to dive in and relive some of their iconic moments! ⏰

I love how this documentary is all about Take That's journey without all the drama. You know what I was like when my kids were young? Just trying to keep up with school trips and recitals. Not all smiles and rainbows, trust me! It's nice to see that even after 35 years, they still have their banter going on 😂🎤. I also appreciate how the filmmakers kept it real, no sugarcoating the tough times. It's refreshing, you know? And Gary Barlow does seem a bit... peculiar at times 😉, but hey, we've all had those moments with our siblings or partners. The archive footage is just amazing, brings back so many memories. I'm definitely going to watch this with my kids and see how it relates to their own experiences.

man I'm so hyped about this new Take That docu 🤩 it's like they really got it right this time you know? no baggage no drama just a straight-up, unapologetic look at the band's journey and I love that about it ❤️ especially how they used all those old archive clips to bring back some serious nostalgia 😎 I mean we've all been there - reliving memories of our own school days or whatever 🤣 but it's amazing how Take That can still make you feel all those emotions after all these years 😊 and yeah Gary being a bit weird on camera isn't the most flattering but hey it's part of who they are and we love 'em for it 💖

I think Take That's new doc is really gonna be a vibe 🤩🎶. Theyre so down to earth about everything thats happened in their career, like not even talking about that one guy who left the band lol 😂. Its all very refreshingly real, you know? And Gary Barlows just being himself, no big deal 🙃. I love how they show those old archive vids, it's so cool to see them performing back in the day 🎸. The doc feels more like a chill hangout sesh with the guys than a traditional documentary 📺. Definitely gonna check it out, hope its as good as they say 🤞

Loved Take That's new docu, it's like sipping a cuppa tea with Gary, Mark & Howard lol 😊 35 yrs in the making, still got that chemistry 💕. Refreshingly no drama or bitterness, just them being themselves 🙏. Archive footage is everything! ⏰

I'm so down for a Take That reunion concert now that I've seen this doc 🎸👍. Gary Barlow's weird side is actually kinda endearing...I mean who hasn't had those awkward moments with their mates? The way the documentary shows the band's chemistry and camaraderie, though, really gets me - it's clear they're still close after all these years. I love how it's not all sappy or bitter, just a genuine look at their journey 🤗. And that archive footage is pure nostalgia goodness!

I just watched this new docu on Take That and I gotta say its pretty cool how theyve kept it so positive despite all the drama that came with being in a boyband back in the day 🤩🎉 Theyre not gonna lie about everything, but thats what makes it feel more real. Gary Barlows weird behavior is kinda awkward to watch at times 🙈 but its also super humanizing. I love how they just show him being himself even when he's being a bit odd. And the archive footage is amazing, so nostalgic! Its like looking back on old memories with your mates 👍
