Two specialist cranes, built in Germany at a substantial cost, have been stuck in storage for nearly two years, awaiting installation on the bridge's arches.
This is not the first time such equipment has been deployed on the bridge; the original units were installed in the 1930s and replaced twice since then – each new unit bringing its own set of problems.
